Ohio governor kasich, john mccain, and both bush president s arent even here. You work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bond. You work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bond, that you do what you say youre going to do. Reporter the plagiarism issue continues. Good news is melanias speech got more. Caitlyn jenner is giving mixed messages and the protests continued to pop up across the city, this one a human wall to stop trump. What are you looking forward to hearing tonight . Reporter everyones looking forward to listening to see if he finally endorses donald trump. On the stage right now is Florida Governor rick scott. They have to win florida if they are going to win in november. If youll remember, just four years ago that state was so close. It was the only state in the union decided by less than 1 . He is speaking and their attorney general is speaking tonight. Very important. The big ticket tonight is going to be the Vice President ial nominee. Ill bring that to you live as soon as he comes to the stage. Thats expected to happen toward the end of the 6 00 oclock hour. During the 4 00 oclock broadcast, you showed how they beefed up the security inside the arena. What about that and also the possibility of protests tomorrow night . How concerned are they for protesters when donald trump accepts the nomination . Nomination . Reporter theyre very concerned about the security. As you say, the barrier right here on the foot of the stage, this was put up because so many people are edging closer and closer to the steps. You can see even right now, they had serious concerns that when trump or pence both under secret service protection, someone might actually try to rush the stage. As you saw at the top of the hour, the video of the attempted flag burning. A real possibility that things will be rough on thursday. Do you feel like theres more energy on day 3 versus the last couple of days . Absolutely. You can hear all the people screaming. The tickets is set. K yo a speech writer for Melania Trump has offered her resignation. That speech writer, a former resident of san jose, issued a Statement Today admitting she made a mistake using passages from the speech given by Michelle Obama in 2008. The controversy erupted shortly after her speech to the Gop Convention on monday when it was discovered the passages from the two speeches were identical. Donald trump refused to accept her resignation calling it an innocent mistake. She says over the phone mrs. Trump read me some passages from mrs. Obamas speech. I wrote them down and included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. This was my mistake, and i feel terrible for the chaos i have caused melania and the trumps as well as to mrs. Obama. No harm was meant. We mentioned that mike pence will take the stage tonight. A huge speech for him, essentially introducing himself to the american public. What does he have to do tonight . I think he has to look somewhat president ial. You have the president ial nominee who has a certain reputation for off the cuff speaking and speaking his mind at times when he shouldnt. He has to be the steadying influence in the administration. Thats what he has to say tonight is im here to basically calm the waters. To kind of balance out. The balancing is really important, frank. What about rubio and ted cruz . A lot of people wondering if cruz will come out and endorse trump tonight. Your thoughts on that . With respect to ted cruz, this will be an interesting one. If trump were to lose, hes the odds on 2020 nominee at least today. You have to look at his speech tonight as possibly one that talks about his own future but also backs the candidate. Hes walking a really fine line about which way hell take this speech. I was going to say, frank, he could end up doing a Chris Christy like speech where its all about him. I think that would be a mistake. As you say, hes walking a real tight rope during the debates. He essentially crucified donald trump. They really went at each other. How could you come to the Republican National convention, have a major speech, and not endorse donald trump . I think he does have to come. Whether the endorsement is lukewarm or really a hot one, i dont know. Dont know. They battled so hard, called each other all kinds of names. Its hard to show up and say all that is behind me. I really like the guy. Hillary clinton could name her pick for Vice President as soon as friday. Shes focusing on three men as she hones in on a possible running mate. Running mate. Cane served as governor. Perez would be the first latino on a major party ticket. What do you think . I think all of these individuals are people that will have to introduce themselves to americans. Theyre not well known outside or inside democratic circles. Theyre known in their states or within their constituencies. Theyll have to introduce themselves to the Great American population. Well talk to you again at the top of the hour. Wonderful. Our Convention Coverage extends to ktvu. Com. Its interesting timing because in wichita last week there was a black lives matter protest scheduled, and the police chief said how about we have a barbecue instead . You see some of the pictures, about a thousand people ended upcoming out. From everything ive heard, it turned into a wonderful afternoon. The Police Department brought hamburgers, grilled them up, and served them to folks. The little boy you just saw there told the officer he was with when he grows up, he wants to be a police officer. The opd has made that offer to the black lives movement. What do the protesters think . Reporter well, a spokesman said that barbecues wont stop brutality, nor will it stop this blockade. She describes herself as a black liberal farmer. As she eats pigs, she will not eat with pigs. It does not look like they will be sitting down for a barbecue with Oakland Police any time soon.
