Earlier today Bernie Sanders took his campaign to east oakland where issues such as jobs, the economy, and Police Shootings were on peoples minds. Rob roth was there and tells us that sanders got a warm welcome in the inner city. Reporter cheers loud and enthusiastic when Bernie Sanders took his fight to the nomination to east oakland this afternoon. Maybe it might be a little bit smarter for us as a nation to be investing in jobs and education for those young people rather than jails and incarceration. Reporter he appeared with actor danny glover. But the california primary is a week from tomorrow. An audience member asked sanders what he would do about Police Shooting deaths. Any person in america who is killed while being apprehended by the police, or dies in police custody, that should immediately and automatically initiate a department of justice investigation. Reporter and sanders knocked republican candidate donald trump what said last week there is no drought in california. And donald also knows more than the entire scientific community. Theres . Stopping this guy. You didnt know. That hes one of the great meteorologists of our time. You didnt know that. Reporter many here say sanders populist message that includes Free College Education resonates with them. Hillary clinton spent her day in new york state marching in her hometown parade. Clinton was joined by her husband and new york governor andrew cuomo. The former secretary of state will be back on the campaign trail in new jersey tomorrow which, like california, holds its primary a week from tomorrow. Donald trump was off the campaign trail today. Analysts say his general Election Strategy includes california, which has not voted for a republican in nearly 30 years. Donald trump is not going to win california and new york. If he does, its a 49state blowout. He is right to focus on michigan, illinois, wisconsin, pennsylvania, and ohio. Meantime, the Libertarian Party held its Party Convention this weekend and nominated former new mexico governor gary johnson for president. Some say this election could provide an opportunity for a third party since both the likely republican and democratic nominees have significant negatives. Lets talk about our weather. We are wrapping up a perfect Holiday Weekend of weather, sunny and warm. And now it is set to get even warmer. Chief meteorologist bill martin. I live in oakland. I drove through the caldecott tunnel. I always go out to see the crosses before i go to work on memorial day. As soon as you go through the tunnel, its amazing. Its like 15 degrees hotter. Youre absolutely right, frank. Its really hot inland. The fog is right at the coast. Definitely hot inland. As much as 10 degrees warmer today. Look how quickly the hills turn brown. A little green in there. You still see a little bit of green in the draws there, but its a brown hillside on mount diablo. The temperatures you the day because of these winds out of the north, as they come out of the north, you see what theyre doing to the fog. s pushing the fog down right, keeping it right at the coast, compressing it. Cooling influences. If you want to get cooler, you would have the winds go this way. You would advect a bunch of cool air in our direction. But now youre getting this down shore wind thats keeping it cool there, getting it hot inland. 93 in fairfield, 90 in livermore. Warmer than yesterday by 14 degrees. In concord 11 degrees. A hot one he is special inland. Look at the difference here between oaklands five degrees. But once you get over those east bay hills temperatures start to jump up. Were going to talk about further warming, probably see some 100s. Ill let you know when that could has. See you back here. The thief also took an fbi badge and credentials. It is not clear if the burglar knew it was an fbi vehicle. We dont know if the gun was in a lockbox or not. The fbi is not saying if the agent could face sanctions shuns. In january another agent had three guns stolen from a lockbox parked in a neighborhood. This is the latest incident where police have had guns stolen. Some of those weapons have been used by criminals to kill people. Of course the most serious case is the july killing of kate steinle at pier 14 with the gun belonging to ranger. The gun was allegedly fired by a man in the country illegally. Of course steinles family just recently filed a lawsuit. The list of agencies who have lost guns is growing longer and longer. Every time this happens we only hope that it doesnt happen again, but we seat happening repeatedly, unfortunately. Live in the newsroom, henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. Now this latest theft happened in a tourist area. We just did a report about how many car they was and breakins there are, and those thieves target tourist areas. If anyone should know where the hot spots are, it should be police and Law Enforcement, unless, of course, he is from out of town. Now to memorial day, a day to remember all those who have died fighting for our country. Today we were out at the lafayette crosses and we happened to come across andre fowler. He drove from rough day 0 down to lafayette so he could paint the names of two fellow soldiers. He brought crayons to do the outline, then paint to finish the names. He also brought american flags to put next to the crosses. He said he wanted to honor them for their service. In all, more than a million american men and women have died fighting for our country. Memorial day holiday stretches back to the end of the civil war when flowers were placed on the graves of confederate and Union Soldiers to mark their sacrifice. Ktvu reporter jesse gary was in the south bay at Oak Hill Memorial Park, and there were some emotional moments. Reporter for 98 years veterans, families, friends, and dignitaries have come to Oak Hill Memorial Park to pay homage to the ones who didnt make it home. Fallen vets now personified by a sea of flags at thousands of burial sites. Its about patriotism, honor for your country, the love of your country. Its very important in our family. Reporter William Sanchez is clearing off this headstone and planting flowers for his father, pete sanchez, who died in the philippines in 1975. Its our country. He defended our country. Im proud of him. Reporter with flags flying at halfstaff and hearts still heavy with the full weight of loss, hundreds braved the unflinching sun to sit and reflect on the meaning of memorial day. All across our country, people are remembering those who lost their lives to keep us free. Theyre individuals who had nieces and nephews and mothers and fathers in homes and neighborhoods that they fought for, and lives that would have continued. And they would have accomplished great things. Thats a great strength of our nation that we have people such as these that would selflessly serve, go away from their homes and families, and when necessary, pay the ultimate price. Reporter bill scott still remembers the day his friends tour of duty ended abruptly in vietnam back in 1969. Just six months shy of going home. Michael became one of the 58,000 plus to die fighting in that conflict. Does it ever get any easier . Not really. You just time kind of evolves, and you kind of dont think about as much. But every couple of days and i have reminders around my house. I cant let it go. Reporter many gathered here say despite the pain, they never want to let go of the memories or the meaning behind their loved ones making the ultimate sacrifice. In san jose, im jesse gary, ktvu fox 2 news. On this day, to honor the fallen, hayward dedicated a new memorial this one to the 9 11 attacks. Game one of the stanley cup times, sharks playing the penguins in pittsburgh, then at oracle tonight its the warriors playing the thunder. Whoever wins tonight in game seven goes on to the nba championship against cleveland. Sports director mark ibanez is with joe fonzi courtside. It is going to be crazy loud there tonight, you guys. Reporter welcome to the center of the universe in the bay area. Its crazy. Warriors here. Joe and i were just talking about the specialness of a game seven. Hes been to a game seven in baseball. I was there at the world series. But never the n b a, right . You and i have been doing this a long time. You can feel the vibe when you walk in this building. Theres no question about the fact it gets turned up a notch for the playoffs. But it is off the charts tonight. No question about it. I am really look forward to see how this game seven turns out. Looking at the clock it says 39 45 until game time. I walked in here about an hour and a half ago. You could feel the energy much different than any playoff game so far this year. You know what, i think the other thing, because this is a holiday monday, these early starts, sometimes late arriving crowds on business days, everybody is packed, and the parking lot is packed. This thing is going to be roaring tonight. Much Different Energy for sure. Ive got to tell you a little story. Earlier i was talking about one of the ushers, and they told me that charles barkley, who is courtside doing his thing, had told all the ushers that he ran into last thursday, you guys aint gonna be back. Youre on vacation after saturdays game. So collaterals was wrong. They hope to prove him wrong again tonight. Yeah, collaterals had to eat his words last year. Lets see if does he again this year. And you know, history says that teams that have been down three to one, then forced a seventh game, history is on their side. But the warrior guys know they can take nothing for granted. Not a given. It doesnt matter what other people think now. Im sure they didnt think wed get here. Just because like i said, were showing up at oracle tonight, doesnt mean were guaranteed a win. We have to play that same kind of force and allow the whole atmosphere to take over. Thats a hungry team over there, too. They havent won a title. You can tell they want it so badly. So do we. That makes for great competitiveness and great basketball. But at the end of the day, we have 48 minutes to pull ourselves out of the grave and advance, so what more could you ask for . Its going to be a fun night. Just lay it out on the line. All right, it is a sea of yellow out here, and just a second ago, it kind of got quiet, but it will pump back up. It just shows you how quickly the momentum can change. Saturday the warriors lack like dire straits down by seven with four minutes left. What somebody is going to have to do, and you have no idea because these games take on a dynamic of their own. But somebody is going to have to weather a storm. There was a time its a character test. There was a tame on saturday when it felt like, okay, its not going to warriors way. They were able to hang in there, hang in there until things finally turn their way. Now, can the thunder do that . What if it happens for the warriors . Im sticking to what i said last week. Never underestimate the heart of a champion. Throw it back to you, from the center of the sports universe. Its going to be so exciting to what. All right, you guys, well see you in a little bit. Thanks very much. Lets get a check of the weather. Things heating up inland. Back to bill. If you are inland its hot. Jackets on the coast. I noticed when i was inland coming back to the stay, my eyes started watering. Allergies, or dryness . Allergies. And i dont get that in i live in oakland. I dont get in that oakland. But, boy, you go inland, it felt like the pollen. The grass pollens are off the charts. Inland valleys, the pollen counts have been high, especially with the grasses and weeds. Now we push into this warm weather pattern, and its brown outside. We have a live camera shot looking out past antioch and pittsburg. The windmills are up a couple hundred feet. Theyre big, big windmills. Nationwide, weather in the dakotas in the plains, moving across texas you the avenue got more weather. This is the memorial day look. Out towards the mississippi valley, some more strong storms there. So thats how most peoples memorial day looked. This is how our memorial day looks with fog just south, down along the coast. We have fog in pacifica, we have fog in santa cruz, half moon bay. Its playing tag at the coast but empty comes back tonight and tomorrow and stays there. Thats the key to the warmup. The fog isnt going to have this big push inland. Its going to linger and exist right at the coastline without a strong on shore push. So tomorrow warmer than today. Its warm today. Right now its 93 in fairfield, 90 in the livermore valley. The winds are blowing. Notice the direction. Theyre all over the place. At novato, the winds are due north. Sfo, northwest at 21, westerly at hayward at 13. So the winds, the sea breeze is there, but its really getting cut off before you get over those east bay hills that sea breezy is nonexistent. Or after you get over the east bay hills. So youre very, very warm in the inland bay valleys. Not just today but tomorrow and the next couple of days. As we push forward theres a really good shot for some tripledigit heat. This is the forecast footprint from today. The forecast footprint from tomorrow is going to be just about the same. 86 in napa tomorrow, 93 in vacaville, 91 in fairfield. These are forecast highs for 44 plus cities. You can see in the bay, still not its not sweltering. These arent record numbers. But inland, its much warmer. Thats how it goes. Kind of classic late spring pattern. We see this all the time. Fire danger is going to come up as you can tell, especially with the heat. No advisories or warnings. Keep an eye out for any records. But you get the idea temperatures are going to warm up nicely as we go through time. By friday and saturday and sunday were going to be back in the 90s. By sun date looks like it wants to cool off. Theres the forecast. Hot, hot, dry the next few days. It is going to be hot. Yeah, it is. Drink lots of water. Yeah. Stay hydrated. Thanks bill.
