And as millions of people head out to shop this weekend, most will be carrying a number of credit cards, and this year it should be a lot safer when you swipe those cards. It was just three years ago target suffered a massive credit card data breach over the thanksgiving weekend. Jetblue and home depot have also been hit by hackers. Recently banks and Credit Card Companies added microchips to all new cards. So every time that chip card is swiped, it creates a unique transaction code that cannot be copied or ever used again. So what thats going to cut down on substantially is the ability of these criminals to be able to use those cards at the retail point of sale, which is what theyre doing now in large part. Retailers were given an october 1st deadline to switch the new card readers. Some experts recommend to make them even more effective, consumers should have to punch in a pin number. Heres whats happening first thing tomorrow morning, a frost advisory kicks in for all the areas shaded in the light blue. Those temperatures back down into the 30s, around 32 to 38 degrees. So for all these neighborhoods here, and then up in the north bay, the east bay valleys and out toward the south bay for the Santa Clara Valley a freeze warning in place. Temperatures in the mid20s to right around 30 degrees. This in place for friday morning, also into saturday morning as well. So its going to stick around quite a bit. As you can see here, this is the upper level pattern. Very cold air moving in from the north that has been in place over the past few days. With that cold air, not going to move out any time soon. Thanksgiving morning, she and her friends get up before dawn to prepare hundreds of meals. This is kind of work. What yankee do you do this . I want everybody to share thanksgiving with me. Reporter six years ago, a drive through oakland inspired her and her husband to do Something Different on thanksgiving. And i saw people on the streets and we decided we wanted to feed the homeless. Reporter her husband has since passed away but his memory lives on in this family tradition. Hes definitely here with me. Reporter her friend, sarah, opens up her restaurant, miss ellies kitchen in oak land so she has a big space to cook. Theres thousands of people who are homeless, thousands of people who dont have enough to eat. Reporter once the meals are ready, theyre packed up and carried out. St. Anthonys served up thanksgiving dinner all day long as they prepared to cook up 3,000 meals. Organizers say today wasnt just about having a turkey dinner but about enjoying a sense of community. Talking with old friends and meeting new ones. About 20 of our guests are not our regular guests today. Thats because they get the opportunity to bring their family down here. And actually they have a nice meal, one that they wouldnt be able to afford otherwise. Today 180 volunteers were on happened to help serve up those meals. St. Anthony says it already has enough volunteers for most of the days around christmas but it does need help all year long. The dining room has been serving the needy by the way for 65 years. San Francisco Police are asking for the publics help in tracking down the gunman who shot a man at a busy parking garage last night. Police say the victim suffered several gunshot wounds to his lower extremities as he was paying for parking at the fifth and mission garage. It happened at about 6 30 last night. Police say it appears the victim was targeted. The gunman is described as a young black man in his early 20s. Anyone with information is asked to contact police. An estimated 5,000 people came to San Francisco for a sit down holiday dinner of turkey, ham and all the trimmings. Among those helping out was mayor ed lee. We caught up with him carvingturkeys. He says 800 people helped get this dinner together. Thats why its important for people to volunteer, to come and work, to work not only to one day like thanksgiving, but work year around. Glide needs volunteers to help with a year around daily free meal program. The church is also appealing for monday they tarry dough monetary donations and new unwrapped toys for christmas. The americans on board the International Space station didnt miss out on thanksgiving today but astronaut scott kelly wont be having turkey dinner like we have on earth. Their turkey along with yams, potatoes and corn come in packets. Still, both men said theyre thankful for the opportunity to be on the space station.
