they told us that they would tell us just one line of the bus line, 65 is affected and minimal impact. but the bigger impact is camden avenue, a major thoroughfare located off highway 35. if you don't have to be in this area to avoid it as it is an ongoing situation. and at this point they are not releasing any information about the suspect and the woman or how many people may be inside that home. frank? >> all right, we should also point out here that the helicopter pictures we've been showing are not live because we don't want to give away any police positions. now, do we know whose house this is is and who has lived in this house? >> we don't. they have not said at this point. telling you how many people may be inside as we know about that minimum two. i should also mention that they have told us that they would fire two shots in to the ground before taking a moment inside. and about 4:00, about an hour after they would get that report a shot of about another shot fired, which they say they do not come from them and at this point they are hearing about three possible shots from this suspect gone. and again we're not sure if they would turn at this point as they have not been taking their time to get that set up. like i said, i've got an update from them in the last five minutes as they say they will be about to attend and make contact with the suspects. >> all right, we'll check back in with you throughout the course of the newscast at 6:00. maureen naylor at san jose today. thank you. over the golden gate bridge and the amazing display of the lightning today as it appears to have hit that south tower. take a look at that along san francisco's market street and the umbrellas were out as we have seen them walking to school this morning. and the rain is also dousing anyone outside in the busy financial district. in the east bay the wet weather also soaked downtown walnut creek generally a busy area and the steady rain would keep the sidewalks pretty clear of people from most of the day. ktvu's allison smith was on the peninsula today with a lightning strike. >> reporter: julie, let me tell you that this backyard looks better than what they did this morning as they would spend the day cleaning up the mess and collect the debris at one point where it looked like a bomb went off. >> this is what they just showed you in their backyard and what they would look like monday morning. and that they started everywhere. and it gave me a minute. and that it fell down. and that it will be exploding. >> it happened at 8:00 on monday morning to go to the bathroom outside and that they would see lightning and they heard an exnotion. >> and i saw a piece of it. and up from the sky. and that landing right on their bed. and to show you the glass shattered everywhere. but estimated that they would stand 100 feet tall and the impact is so strong that they would pierce the lawn. >> they are attempting something that they have never seen before and it is a miracle really. >> her neighbors have showed us a part of the tree that came through their fence and one of the logs that went crashing through their kitchen window breaking a few lights. nearly missing it all. >> and picked up the window here and headed to the back of the house, the lightning would hit and a piece of the tree came crashing through the window. >> it is unbelievable as i have never heard of a sound like that before. >> they would consider themselves lucky and correct them for saving her life. cocoa also shaken up. her nerves rattled. >> i'm very shocked. and at the same time i also feel very lucky that i'm alive. >> reporter: this tree is difficult to hold on to. we saw parts of the entire neighborhood and what it is not just confined to the backyard. >> we're lucky that her dog was able to wake her up. thank you. many people shared some great video of the pictures of the rain all over northern and central california. this is from santa cruz. it looked like a waterfall there pouring down this set of stairs. and also in santa cruz a big flash of lightning as the line of thunderstorms would move through their area. and the rain is just what we need and that it will be a great start to the rainy season. >> as we just saw the weather put on quite a show in the south bay and the peninsula today. and this afternoon the drenching cars, and the roads. lightning lit up the sky along with some thunder. and then later today, they would make the appearance and produce that rainbow. it is a welcoming change from the drought. >> it is kind of neat and everybody got a part of that here in the valley. but it is all welcomed up. and for a change. >> they also lead to thundershowers out there about 20 in the south bay according to the chp. and also as many as 800 bay area customers lost power from the storm-related outages. well, it was sure great to see the rain. let's bring in chief meteorologist bill martin. >> reporter: what's happening right now, still some scattered showers. this system is pretty cool. not that wet. no, it was wet this morning and we had the thunderstorms, but the accumulations, actually half an inch, a quarter of an inch. most of us somewhere between half of an inch of rain to .3 inches. just what we needed. it is not a very el niño-like storm. a very cold storm. you'd expect those storms as we've got the snow levels with this system that will be down around 4,200 feet or something like that. the snow levels are quite low. let's back this up as i wanted to show you how it looks this morning to go back this morning and about 7:19 it starts rumbling off san rafael, do you see it right there with that line of thunderstorms? 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. as they would start hammering along the peninsula and then you could see them start to pass on through and die down. in and out south bay, at what time? 9:30 to 10:00. and then you're gone. we've got scattered showers on out there right now with a big break going on. more scattered showers in the forecast tonight. and more rainfall possibly with some of the numbers from today. like i say, a tenth of an inch and a quarter of an inch. you may have had more if you were one of those people on the strong cells. but the main gauge is a quarter of inch to half an inch. in the mountains, they would remain in effect for the next 12 hours as they would get hammered with more snow and a foot and a half of snow. and before it is all over. so when i come back. we will put this together. and a bunch of stuff going up with the impact on the weather. >> a reminder that you could get today's weather alerts by going to our website ktvu.com. a woman died this morning after she was hit in the crosswalk near the pleasant hills bart station. according to police the driver of the van that hit her ran a red light. police say that the driver is a 43-year-old man. it happened just before 8:00 near walnut creek. police say the 56-year-old victim was taken to the hospital and died a few hours later. she's from walnut creek. officers say the driver did remain at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. the trial for the accused san francisco china town gang leader raymond "shrimp boy" chow is now underway. accused of heading back to a life of crime and killing his way to the top of the chinese gang. ktvu tara moriarty reports now on today's opening statements and their elaborate and extensive federal sting to catch chow. >> reporter: at times this trial played out like a hollywood movie, drawing comparisons to the god father in ocean's 11, referring to raymond "shrimp boy" chow as a task of characters. >> the battle line has been drawn. >> reporter: they painted chow as a reformed ex-gangster, who devoted himself to the chinese community and school fundraising. but the prosecution allegations that he was guilty of a slew of charges including murder, conspiring to racketeer and money laundering. prosecutors called chow sinister and ordered the cold- blood style hit of chinatown businessman in 2006. a man that he would replace as the dragonhead of the chinese fraternal association. chow was also charged with conspiring to murder an alleged gang rival found shot to death along with his wife in 2013. prosecutors say that half a dozen people from chow's inner circle will be testifying against him. and the defense said that the witnesses are criminals who have implicated chow and at the last minute to gain more lenient sentences for themselves. the prosecution says that they will present federal chilling undercover recordings of chow taped in an fbi sting where two agents posed as gangsters. prosecutors alleged chow accepted bribes. his client was entrapped by the fbi in an elaborate sting where undercover agents pried chow with alcohol and fancy meals, spending more than $1 million ontrips, luxury hotels, even a $250 drink for chow's girlfriend. that is one small aspect of government overbreach, the government overkill. the government in essence, you know, creating crime and funding the criminality. >> reporter: and now that opening statements are completed, the witnesses are up. first up we heard from a police officer who responded to the scene of allen's killing. next up the fbi special agent. and now sarah says that their client chow will be taking the stand himself at which point he stood up, smiled, waved, said hello to the jury as trials will resume tomorrow. in san francisco tara moriarty ktvu fox 2 news. the driver of the pickup truck died in san jose this
