You might have 4, 5 blocks and then a home or two untouched. The scene is horrible. The scene is horrible. Terrible. You dont see it till you come into middletown and see there are embers burning. We are not surrounded by active fire. Back to my point, when employee come into middletown that is when you get the feeling this is indeed a horrible situation. You drive towards cobb, a horrible situation. Gets worse every mile you go. Talk about the fire and this home burned, but that home didnt, people didnt have a chance. I remember seeing video on saturday that someone took of them driving down 175. You understand when you make that drive it is like a canyon. That fire, i kept picturing based on the video, how scary it was. Fire is crushing everything in its sight. I couldnt imagine how scared those residents were as they took off. You have the sight. What you can see. Scorched homes, destroyed homes. Burnt out cars and also the smell. As soon as we were coming in on highway 29, the closer you got the closer you got you immediately smell. It is on you. It is in you. It gets into your throat. You can imagine what the firefighters are going through. You have thousands of people who dont have a place to live. We are not the only ones up here from ktvu. Noelle walker with more on the valley fire. Reporter hello. I am on jefferson street. A few blocks east of highway 29. And take a look at the view here. This used to be someones house. Across the street another house. I am told it was a beautiful two story home. That one leveled by the fire. The only thing left is the chimney. Those who evacuated are not allowed back in yet. There is still work to be done to make sure it is safe but that hasnt kept some folks away. A web of downed power lines. Highway 75, a card car collection. The only proof a home stood on this lot. People are not allowed back yet to see what is left of their lives. So many people are desperate to find information on the status of their homes. We are gathering information. We have teams out doing damage assessment. Reporter that includes strike teams with the task of shifting through the damage. Making sure there are no unaccounted for victims. They found none. So many other are looking for something to hold on to. It will take time to put the walls back up and lives back together. Reporter what you are looking at is one of those strike teams tasked with going into where there are destroyed homes and using those rakes and pitch forks to search for anything that might be left underneath the rubble like a body.
