In 2015 there was a virus sent out called the xo the virus that ended up setting up a bot network that was able to take down any server or any website traffic or any web server on the internet. Heres the interesting thing. This is being reported as the first time that connected devices are being used. About a week ago Homeland Security reported there was code being released on the internet that would allow thermostats, televisions, any internet connected device to be infected and then those devices are being used to attack the servers. Essentially they are sending a packet of information to a server and then the server tries to respond to that packet of information to say heres what you wanted. Unfortunately, the computer sending the request is away for the server to apply. It just sends another request and another and another. Thousands if not millions of different devices from all over the world. It is impossible for the server to determine what is good traffic and bad traffic so it cripples the website that the dns server is serving. And then that gets to the impact on users. When i go on twitter or netflix and turned away. Is there any worry about my personal information if i use twitter or netflix that it was compromised . There is no worry about that. This is like leaving your car in the driveway with the keys in the ignition. If someone is hijacking your computer i think connected to the internet in our homes, this is not the beginning or near the in. This will get worse. The way that we can stop this is to keep our devices updated, make sure we run antivirus like a web root or something on your machine. You can also get a little box a Company Called bit defender that makes a bit defender box that essentially protects all of the traffic on your network and doesnt allow anything out that you dont authorize and that will stop these kinds of attacks. People will say they will take down your website if you dont pay out.
