To reach mountainous region south of carmel and point lobos. Dry wind and trees are feeding the 15,000 acre fire which has been burning since last week. Dozens of bulldozers lined the sides of the Pacific Coast highway as the heavy earth moving equipment is being used to try and create fire breaks in hopes of slowing the fires growth and increasing containment which is currently at 5 . So far at least 20 homes and two outbuildings have been destroyed. Most evacuees are staying with friends and relatives. A few have found refuge at a red cross shelter at the carmel shelter. Homes could be destroyed in a matter of minutes. This is stuff you cant replace. I cant go get a picture of my fiveyearold son or some of the poor traits or some of the memorabilia. Were all sports junkies, so we have a lot of niners and giants stuff thats not replaceable. I can tell people what you are going to have to do with these insurance companies. Im not an expert but i really feel for the people when they say that 20 homes are gone. I really we can feel it more than the average people because weve already lost on these kind of things. In addition to a handful of families crashing at the red cross shelter, the spca is caring for a few dozen pets displaced by the fire. Officials are asking anyone who is willing and able to bring pet food, doesnt matter, dog, cat, bird feed, doesnt matter. A lot of the evacuees who raced away from their homes didnt bring pet food with them. If you are able, stop by the red cross shelter and bring pet food. Another update in the next hour. For now, jesse gary, ktvu fox 2 news live in carmel. Every little bit helps in a situation like this. Now to Southern California where a deadly fire has torched more than 33,000 acres in the Santa Clarita valley. Firefighters say over the weekend they found a mans body inside a burned car in a drive way. The fire broke out on friday and firefighters say flames raced through the area like a freight train. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated. Fire crews from across the state are now on the fire lines helping to battle the flames. There are almost 3,000 people on this incident. Tremendous amount of people. It has averaged about 10,000 acres a day. An acre is a football field. So imagine that. 10,000 football fields a day. So far the fire is just 10 contained. There is no word on how it started. All right, two major fires burning in california right now. We have what looks like a hot week ahead of us. Chief meteorologist bill martin is in the weather center. Bill, tell us about the conditions. We talked about this last week. You get multiple days of 100 plus temperatures, you are going to have fire in the inland area. I actually was driving down in the big sur area on saturday morning and i saw it start to come up. As soon as i sought, you could see the smoke plume. I thought, look at the topography. If you know that area, and many of you have been down the coast there, the topography is extreme. The weather as jesse said has been helping out. Fog, temperatures in the upper 70s. Humidities in the 50 percentile range and pretty light winds. But it helps a lot. But i have to tell you, that area is so steep, the terrain for firefighters again, very tough. Weve seen fires in big sur year after year after year for as long ace eve been here, and they are tough to get at. You dont have a lot of access roads. What we have happening around here is because of those fires, the air quality has taken a hit. Weve got High Pressure sinking in. Its warming up around here. On top of the smoke we have what we call a spare the air day which you know a lot about. You can see here the fog trapped in the area near the fire zone right in here. But its also trapping the smoke. And so were seeing really poor air quality not just from ground level ozone but from the smoke that has now filtered into parts of the bay area. And i many filtered. I actually went for a bike ride this morning, and the winds were coming up, kind of a southwest wind, taking that smoke and blowing it up into the east bay. And ive got to tell you, my lungs were burning. Not just from the spare the day, ozone levels, but theres a lot of particulate matter in the air, east bay, south into livermore. If you are in the san jose area you know what im talking about. Air quality as bad as it gets. Also in salinas. Ill pull some pictures up of the air quality. Obviously the ozone, you dont see ozone but you do see this smoke, and the particulate is big and it is definitely causing problems for folks in the ozone and north, gilroy and morgan hill. It doesnt look like theres going to be any relief anytime soon. Thanks bill. We want to turn our attention now to the Democratic National convention in philadelphia. Want to give you a live look inside now at the convention floor. Already this afternoon weve heard from a number of people including House Minority leader nancy pelosi as well as Congress MemberMaxine Waters and norman mineta. While the convention is pretty much on message is right now, boy, it was a rough start this morning. Ross palombo is inside the Wells Fargo Center in philadelphia with that part of the story. Ross. Reporter well, look at this back behind me what. A difference from the rnc. Hundreds upon hundreds of people here, and here is the california delegation right here. 475 elected delegates, 76 superdelegates. And this crowd has been pretty charged for the last three hours that the convention has been open. Now, all of this didnt start the gavels before there was a major controversy. Take a look at this. Settings down, please. That was the california delegation booing Debbie Wasserman schultz, the chair of the party this morning. Mostly bernie supporters were booing here, all of this over those leaked emails that appear to show that the party not only was favoring hillary but trying to sabotage bernie. Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned yesterday as you know, but she still was supposed to open up the convention, that at the last minute did not happen. The mayor of baltimore did it instead. As for bernie himself, he said the email scandal is a big problem, but he still supports Hillary Clinton. We have got to elect Hillary Clinton and tim kaine. Reporter as you just heard, Bernie Sanders also got booed when he said to support Hillary Clinton. His supporters dont want to give up, not even now at the last minute. The california delegation has 222 sanders delegates here. 325 of those are clinton delegates. Now, there is a lot of division here in our delegation and in the convention as a whole. We found actually two cousins from the bay area that are on opposite is side of the issues. Its disappointing. I think its a problem but i think we all really need to focus on the real issues. Its embarrassing. Ms. Wasserman fell on her sword so were moving on. We are absolutely here to have our voices heard, and were not going to be quiet. Reporter well, of course, there are the protests outside of the dnc here. Several have been springing up in downtown philadelphia. Several in the arena right next to where we are, the wells fargo arena. There have been some arrests, but no major arrests, and no major injuries. Now, coming up tonight were going to hear from Bernie Sanders himself, Elizabeth Warren. Paul simon will be playing, demi lovato as well. But back out live with the california delegation, i bet you they didnt know that gloria allred, famed attorney, one of the california delegates. How are you . Just fine, thank you. Reporter what do you think of this email controversy . Do you think this is a huge deal . Do you think its overblown or do you think this is going to affect the unity . Well, im an elect hillary delegate, and i know that the bernie supporters were very upset by this. And i think that Debbie Wasserman schultz has given a great deal to the democratic party, did the right thing by resigning. I hope that will settle everyone down and the speech tonight by bernie and by one of the leaders of the sanders movement, and he said, everybody, we need to get on board with hillary, and we need to stop trump. Lets talk about that, because you were actually one of the few people that have actually defeated donald trump in a lawsuit. Is not a lawsuit, but legally. Basically what happened was, miss universe, miss canada pageant, owned by trump, add beautiful woman, jenna, and when they found out that she had been born with a when they found out that she is had been born with a penis, they kicked her out. I flew down and lobbied to eliminate the rule that you had to be a natural born female. I said we didnt ask what Donald Trumps anatomy looked like when he was born, and he came back and said gloria would probably love to see whats under my pants. He said that to tmz. And i said i dont have a magnifying glass to see something that small. Bottom line was we got her back in the pageant. The rule was eliminated. But donald trump is dangerous and this is not acceptable for him to be president of the united states. Reporter do you think the party is going to be able to come together after the fourth and final day because of this threat . I do. I think whats happening here with a lot of conflict with the sanders supporters is not representative of sanders supporters as a whole. I was just told theres a poll that shows that 90 of all sanders supporters are now going to come out and support hillary. They cant support trump. Hes against everything that they are for. So we will be united. We will have a progressive platform, and were going to win this election. Were going to have the first woman in the white house, a womans place is in the house, the white house. Reporter thank you gloria. Always a pleasure to talk to you. A clinton delegate. Thats right. All the way. Reporter so there might be some drama with the sanders delegation. There was just a warning sent out to the leadership that some of them might try to disrupt tonight and slow down the proceedings, but Bernie Sanders himself is talking to his delegation and urging them not to do that. He supports Hillary Clinton. He had that press conference earlier today. He spoke with his delegation. Despite this email controversy, he still supports Hillary Clinton. That is the latest live from the dnc. Michelle obama, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren all coming up tonight. Well bring it all for you live here in philadelphia. Ross, thank you very much. Appreciate it. Gloria allred doesnt hold back. No, she does not. Ktvus ross palombo is in philadelphia and will be reporting live from the convention right here on the four on 2. Well, as the democrats get off to a bit of a bumpy start for their Convention Donald trump is seeing a bump in the polls coming off the gop convention. This happened in a city west of tokyo in the early hours of tuesday morning. Japans National Broadcasts saying that 15 people were killed and 45 injured. As you can imagine in a situation is like this the numbers are fluctuating, another agency now reporting that 19 people are dead and 20 in gourd. Police do say that a knife wielding man in his 20s has turned himself is in saying that he did it. There is no word on a motive but one media source says the suspect is a former employee at that facility. Authorities in florida say a nightclub shooting in fort myers that left two teens dead early this morning is not connected to terrorism. Investigators say multiple shooters opened fire just as a party at club blu was letting out. Two boys, age 14 and 18, were killed, and as many as 17 others were hurt. One witness described the scene as pure chaos. Police say they have detained three persons of interest. This is time to mourn for these families. Any family never wakes up expecting to lose loved ones, especially young individuals like this. Nobody expects somebody to be injured going to an event where it was supposed to be teenagers having a good time. The nightclub did provide security, and they described it as a good time for kids at that hour. They had Armed Security inside and out. The shooting comes six weeks after the attack at the pulse nightclub in orlando that left 49 people dead. Turning now to that fire that destroyed the Millbrae Community center last week, authorities this afternoon announcing that two teenagers are under arrest. Officials say the boys, age 16 and 17, live in millbrae and have no prior criminal history. Their names have not been released. They were arrested on friday. That was just one day after the massive fire broke out early thursday. San mateo county fire Officials Say the teens did admit starting the fire but say they didnt mean to catch the building on fire. Taking a look at the weather lets check in with chief meteorologist bill martin. It is hot out there. Its hot and kind of yucky. Theres the spare the air alert for the morning commute and afternoon commute. Then theres this smoke coming in, livermore, the valley is. Its not necessarilily hammering San Francisco but as you look at mount sutro you see how narrow that fog bank is. So any smoke that does move north is getting trapped in that lower layer. Picture the top of the fog bank as, i dont know, i press my coffee every morning. When you do that, you get the really good thats where the pollutants get stuck. So the air quality really nasty. Not just at the coast is it narrow like that, that inversion, but its that way in san jose. Thats why smoke and debris and particulate matter from that huge fire, 15,000 acres, is in the atmosphere. I usually am not bugged by stuff like that. I went for a ride today and the air quality looked okay, but my throat was burning. I said, this is what were talking about p. You see the fog and you see how its trapped. Thats a shallow in version. Theres a surface wind i dont know if you can pick it up here but theres a surface wind going southsouth is east pardon me, blowing from the southwest, and it is pushing that smoke up and being pinched and funneled up into the santa clara valley. It is beg funneled up into the livermore valley. Fur in santa clara, you know what im talking about. If you are in san rafael, you go, what is he talking about . Because it really is happening in those regions. Its foggy in San Francisco. Weve got fog thats going to continue to linger at the coast and keep things reasonable but inland its hot, its nasty. The inland temperature is 94 in livermore pardon me, 94 in fairfield, 96 in livermore. Tomorrow is another spare the air day. If tomorrow is one, well probably see one wednesday, too. See how pinched down it is . Its all blue. But when you get down to this lower level, all the particulates from that fire, thats a very narrow band. Thats probably 1,000, 1200 foot deep marine inversion. So its definitely an air quality issue. As we head into tomorrow morning theres the fog, and it doesnt is get very far. Tomorrow will be warmer than today. It will still be cool at the coast. But the air quality, which is really what everybody is noticing, especially south is and east bayl be nasty. It is going to be a spare the air day tomorrow, quite possibly on wednesday. When i come back i will give you the numbers for tomorrow and sort of this ramping up of the fire danger and the poor air quality as we head through this week. Is all right, bi. First time i heard the coffee press analogy with weather. Works for me. For months weve been waiting on word on yahoos core internet business.
