This race has centered on how san jose should stop the exited of police officers. Roll back parts of the pension cuts. Libby shaft has 62 of the votes. Rebecca kaplan has 37 . Jean quan was eliminated after the 14th round of rank choice voting. These are the unofficial results. A winner has yet to be girlly declared. Council woman shaft says she is confident in her lead and believes she will be named oaklands new mayor. Spirits were high as the numbers started coming in. She is going to make the city what it can be. So you can walk around safely. At her Campaign Headquarters she told Campaign Workers how proud she is to be an oakland native and thanked her supporters. Many of whom were classmates of hers for their hard work. Im just proud of the campaign we have run and im very excite the about oaklands future. She also says the bay area continues to prosper and its time for oakland to do the same. She says the endorsements she received late in the campaign of jerry brown and Barbara Boxer helped lead her to victory. Rebecca kaplan is in second place. We caught up with her last night as she was hitting the streets and reminding people to get out and vote. Im incredibly honored at the level of support that i have been getting from the people of oakland. And we know we have to make sure every vote comes in. Even though Council Woman libby shaft has 60 of the rank choice votes, the results are unofficial. There are still several thousand votes by mail ballots to still be counted. The Chevron Oil Company came out the big loser in the race for mayor in richmond. Tom butt defeated gnat bates. Chevron spent big money to elect bates mayor. Time now 4 34. No surprise in the governors race with Governor Brown winning a fourth term. He has 58 of the vote compared to 48 for neil kashkari. We will hear from Governor Brown and kashkari coming up at 5 00. Republicans are celebrating winning enough seats to take control of the house and senate. Newly reelected Mitch Mcconnell will be the new majority leader. As it stands now, republicans have 52 senate seats after picking up seven from the democrats. There are still four states that have not been called yet. Ktvu Tara Moriarty is joining us now from Police Headquarters where detectives are trying to figure out who the driver is. Reporter yeah they have basically poured over Surveillance Video but it doesnt reveal much. They do know that they are looking for the driver of an 18 wheeler. Its possible the driver didnt realize he struck the pedestrian. The deadly accident happened just before midnight in the citys tenderloin district. Police patrol that area 24 hours but were not on that particular block when the accident happened. We do know the man was struck and killed but his identity has not been released. Police have seen Surveillance Video from a nearby hotel but they were not able to get a license plate on the vehicle. Offices say they have one witness they are hoping anyone else who might have information about the accident comes forward. They got a call about shots fired inside of an apartment near blossom hill road just after 5 15 last night. A man with one gunshot wound was pronounced dead at the scene. A teenager was taken to the hospital and expected to survive. The motive of this shooting is still under investigation. The water e pose your problem on the tower of the new bay bridge may be far worse than first believed. More than 100 steal rods anchoring the 525foot tower may have been flooded by corrosive water. The water problem was believed to have only infected 18 rods. The rods holding down the tower were supposed to be encased in waterproof grout. They need to determine how much corrosion has set in before it decides how to fix the problem. San Francisco Mayor ed lee is expected to announce he will seek reelection. According to the San Francisco chronicle, that announcement could come in a matter of days. Measure j calls for a gradual increase from the minimum wage to 15 an hour within four years. The San Mateo CountyCoroners Office is investigating a tragic incident after pacifica beach. Police say a 60yearold man drowned while surfing at lind mar beach monday morning. Democratic state senator al expadilla alex padilla leads with 52 of the vote. The race for superintendent of public instruction was also neck and neck with 100 of the precincts now reporting incumbent tomato lack son has 52 of the vote. And approved the use of marijuana by adults. The laws make it legal for people 21 years and older to possess, grow, process, and sale marijuana. The regulations are similar to laws approved by voters in colorado and Washington State two years ago. Oregons law goes into effect by july 1st. The washington, d. C. Law still needs approval by congress. Protestors in missouri made sure their voices were heard. 15 people were escorted outside of a hotel after disrupting an acceptance speech.
