the bay area. very active march. san francisco this afternoon picked up .24 inches of rainfall. rainfall over the past 24 hours, san francisco.65. napa half an inch. here's our live camera. lots of clouds, raindrops hitting the lens. there is the organized rain moving from the north bay, spreading to the south. a flash flood watch in place until 6:00 pm sunday. this could be expanded. southern marin county, san francisco, oakland as well, solid downpours closer to berkeley, richmond. this darker shade of green corresponds to a more intense downpour. pushing the map to the south, coverage approaching the san mateo county coastline. more rainfall spreading to the south for this evening. we'll let you know how much you can expect from that. there are concerns about yet nor landslides -- more landslides and trees falling. live in the newsroom with the cumulative effects of the rain. >> the big picture, saturation season means even light rains falling on thoroughly soaked soil can spell big trouble. about 7:30 last night, this family felt the earth shake as the power went off. a large tree on the hillside above had fallen above, break power line bus not seriously damaging the house. >> with the rain comes a lot of wind. the wind will pick up at times and it's easy for those trees to come down. >> reporter: pg&e surveyed the damage and delivered the bad news. >> they say we cannot do nothing until you remove all the trees. i told him it's too much. i cannot remove it. but he said this is the rule. >> reporter: to complicate the couple's problems, both on small disability and social security stipends, the insurance deductible is on them. recent storms have returned with a vengeance and near total ground saturation. >> when you get to 100% of saturation and additional rainfall, things start to move. it's gonna happen in some areas. >> reporter: the other problem, landslides. this one 100 feet tall cutting off highway 35. initially a huge fallen tree started the slide, blocking the highway. even with the tree now gone, more soils keep coming down. when they're dry, soils on hilltops and hillsides tend to interlock. too much water can lubricate and liquify those soils. >> it can no longer hold. and it begins to slide. >> you simply don't know which tree is gonna fall or which hill is going to slide. but with all this weather coming, we know more will. case in point, we just got this video of this landslide. the land just simply gave way, leaving the roadblocked and cleanup crews worrying about dirt, rox, trees coming down. and the potential for more into the reservoir. here's a tree blocking highway 1. . after almost a week of delays, workers began demolishing an apartment building perched above the cliffs in pacifica. >> reporter: the beginning of the end for 320 esplanade came with a crunch. city crews decided to start the work last monday, but a week worth of wet weather put the demolition on hold. concerns about the property began in 2010 when the cliff face began crumbling. fast forward to 2016, and workers began the job of demolishing the building, without letting it drop on the beach below. >> we have new pictures. and we've seen some additional erosion at the cliff face. we still think it's safe to be demolishing the building at this time. we're not concerned about that. >> reporter: the city says the building's owner failed to take the steps that could have saved the building. >> it's not over yet. they basically took 320 out of the bankruptcy state. so that's his property personally. but the bank released it to him. >> which means he has to foot the bill for the demolition. >> i moved my friend in here like a week prior to when they were kicked out and asked to move. >> reporter: she says the building had to come down. >> very unsafe. >> reporter: the neighboring building has already been yellow tagged and the citiville to figure out if it needs to be demolished as well. >> download our free weather app for updates on this weekend's storms. live radar, up to the minute forecasts. the increasingly contentious race for the white house. condemnations are coming in from both solids of the aisle following the violence that erupted at a donald trump rally. >> i have to do it myself! [ crowd noise ] >> reporter: tense moments for donald trump on the road to the white house. someone threw something. and other reports says protestors tried to rush the stage. secret service agents surrounded the candidate while others carried out a man knowledged to be responsible for the disturbance. the incident comes less than 24 hours after a rally was canceled because of the potential for violence. >> it's ripping our country apart, ripping our party apart, and it's gonna hurt us very badly if we move in this direction. >> what trump is doing is incredibly dangerous at so many levels. the cause of their problems, what they are doing is scapegoating which has gone on forever. to take people's fear and anger and turn themselves against minorities. >> we should be focused on how we can make it better. not insults and school yard talk. not divisions along the lines of race or faith. certainly not violence against other americans. >> reporter: asked whether he would support trump if he is elected the nominee, marco rubio said it's getting harder every day. republican voters headed to the polls today. 19 delegates at stake. donald trump has strong support with washington republicans. ted cruz won the wyoming primary today. rubio came in second followed by trump and ohio governor john kasich. the river ran green in chicago for st. patrick's day. the dyeing is handled by the local plumber's union who use a secret formula to create a nontoxic vegetable dye. ♪ [ music ] ♪ at home floats and marching bands made their way through the streets of san francisco. the parade got underway about 11:30 this morning at the foot of market. this is the 165th year for this big event. >> we're from new york and came all the way here just to see the parade. de. >> today's wet weather meant a few more ponchos than normal. participants expected to top 5,000. people gathered at civic center plaza for a big party. a gunman opens fire on a party bus in the east bay. why police are having a hard time investigating. >> and a new app that promises to change the way we buy and sell homes. four people wounded in a shooting near the bay bridge are not cooperating with the investigation but officers are looking to get to the bottom of the case. the chp responded around 2:30 am where this party bus was riddled with at least nine bullets. it was coming from san francisco and just exited the bay bridge when a vehicle drove alongside and opened fire. investigators believe it was some kind of incident that started on the bridge. one passenger was critical injured. the other three had minor injuries. the passengers refused to provide descriptions of the shooters or talk with them about the incident and a family victim got into an altercation with emergency personnel and forced her way out of an ambulance. an armed robbery suspect died in a confrontation with police this weekend. it happened at a kfc on thornton near newark boulevard. police arrived to find a robber leaving through the backdoor. instead of obeying an order to stop, he turned and pointed a weapon at an officer who opened fire hitting the man. he was pronounced dead a short time later. the district attorney's office and the sheriff's department are investigating. police in san jose say a gunman who shot at three officers early this morning was wounded when police returned fire. it happened near fruitdale and meridian avenues. police say they stopped a car nearby with three people inside, and steven pedroesa of san jose opened fire. he was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries. an investigation underway at san francisco state after a female student reported being sexually assaulted on campus. she was assaulted in a restroom near the tennis court early yesterday morning. her attack serabout 20 years old, 5'7" with a stocky build and dark hair. opendoor.com sells your home by eeliminating the middle man. >> this is our family room, great room. >> reporter: greg loves his new gilbert home and how easily he was able to sell his old home in order to get this one. he never hired a realtor, never had an open house. >> they just went through it, gave me an offer, and it was a little over. >> reporter: the home was purchased by a web-based company new to the valley called opendoor.com, a site that guarantees a quick sale. and an exact move-out date. >> i say to you i want to sell my house and be out of it in two months, and generally you can make that happen. >> right. so we can move as fast as the seller prefers. it's really flexible based on the seller's timeline. >> reporter: eric is the company's sideways. >> the first time i sold a house was one of the most painful transactions i experienced. so the mission of open door is to remove the half and stress. >> reporter: how do they do it? [ laughter ] >> very active week. last weekend two, strong storms moved into the bay area. and the past few days, a series of storms moving into northern california. the rainfall started up in the north bay, and pushing to the south. san francisco this afternoon, especially portion of the bay, really an increase in the rainfall rate. the snowfall continues to pile up in the sierra. 2-5 feet above 5,000 feet. significant snow for the forecast tonight, tomorrow, and monday. the coverage out there, still some pretty good downpours covering richmond, oakland, daley city. pushing them out across the bay, oakland, lafayette, concord. steady downpours out there. pushing the map. this has been a development over the past few minutes. more rainfall on the increase. not as much coverage for the south bay. more development here closing in on the santa cruz mountains. we'll hold onto the rainfall in the forecast, the southern half of the bay area for tonight. lots of clouds, still some downpours out there. another system to talk about near sunday. rainfall expectations could be about a quarter inch in the south bay, topping an inch for the north bay and the coastal hills. winds will be out there once again. high surf, waves 15-20 feet. russian river, they're concerned with this river topping flood stage. it's backed off to 24.6 feet and will be cresting to around monitor stage. that could be on monday. the river level will go up once again later in the day sunday into monday. it looks like at this point remaining below flood stage. rain returns on your second forecast. the next one will be a dry weather pattern for most of next week. the cold front, source of some rainfall for sunday. rainfall redeveloping. gusty winds as well. 11 clock, some rain showers out there. and this might wake you up first thing on sunday. flash flood watch for the north bay, through a good portion of sunday. a rain shower sunday night, into monday morning as well. we'll back off later on monday. temperatures for tomorrow, upper 50s on the 60s. the 5-day, quite the adventure. more rain tomorrow. chance of a shower monday. back to spring break. >> nice to get a break. we're live at the commitment to excellence awards. >> we'll hear from jim otto. today's the day! oh look! creepy gloves for my feet. see when i was a kid there was a handle. and a face. this is nice. and does it come in a california king?
