Mission to raise a Million Dollars to benefit pediatric amazing event. We tried to air this yesterday. We did. We had a sound issue. If you know anything about astrology, mercury retro grade perhaps. Weve worked out. One thing that was very clear is many of the people that showed up, most of the people who showed up were so proud of criss for stepping forward and making something beautiful out of something so difficult. Hear what people had to say about him. Every living person, thats what help stands for. Criss angel, like jerry lewis, in 1954 started muscular dystrophy. I think criss will start something thats part of his destiny. I think hes going to help heal a lot of children. Hes really a sweetheart. Hes got this sort of image, the rocknroll, which is a hes a magician, an illusionist, hes a showman. So hes got this sort of leather and studs and motorbikes motorbl the rest of it and hes a teddy bear. Yes. Isnt that natures theme . Thats true with so many of the tough guys. I spoke about some of the fighters. Youre a big softy. Yes. When youre going through tough times, you soften right up. Thats an interesting perspective. Twisted sister, dee snyder. F they were there in full force. And they actually worked on a video. They took the song were not gonna take it, it was like the rebellion song you drove around to in your car. They changed it to fit cancer. The video has gotten over 6 million views. It became really the song of the event. Somehow the message of were not gonna take it got lost. Its a karaoke favorite, a rocking jock favorite, but much more important message. Said he was doing this event. I said i may have a song for me. He called me back five minutes later. He said i have to have this song for my charity event. He performed that song on monday night. It was phenomenal. I know you caught up with criss as well as his son is really spurred the idea of help. Yep. Well take a look at what he said. He was really speechless. Im just so imagine mike tyson here, jerry lewis, sigfried roy. You have all these incredibly talented people that are legends. I pinch myself. I cant believe theyre here, when i used to watch these people. I used to aspire to be like these people. Now theyre here supporting a cause thats so near and dear to my heart because of my child. But really not just because of my child, but because of all these children that suffer all over the world. We got to change it. We got to come together. One world, one people for children. You mentioned nevada prep. Explain that. Its nevada pep. Its a nonprofit that we Service People with disabilities, all types of disabilities. Not just one specific one. And we offer all of our services are free. We just celebrated our 20th year. Congratulations. Yes, thank you. And so the great thing about volunteers or works there has to have a disability themselves or has to have an arms length relationship as a grandchild, a child, somebody so that when you get that call from someone saying oh, my gosh, this has happened, we know about it already because weve collectively have thousands and thousands of hours between all of us. Wow very interesting. You mentioned antibullying. But nevada pep actually supplies a lot of Different Services and you primarily. What are some of the specific services that you offer for people . Usually when you have a child with a disability in the School District, you have whats called an i. E. P. , thats an individualized education program. And so we go into the school. If need be, we advocate for the parents so that they know how to navigate through the system. We do work with the School District also. So its not we dont go in and in the School District, a so to kids with disabilities because theyre easier targets. And so we try to go into the elementary schools. We have 22 title 1 schools that are coming to our antibullying walk. So we try to get in on the bottom, in the beginning to try to educate them and show them, this is not right. Its not acceptable. When youre on the opposite end of receiving bullying, it hurts and it changes your life. We even still talk to adults that still they still remember. It doesnt go away. Oh, my goodness. Dont get me started. Fun fact about me, i left 7th grade a month early. My dad pulled me out of 7th grade a month early to avoid the bullying and it kind of toughened me going into eighth grade saying were going to have to get awe tougher skin. Wow. Bullying still happens. I think were more aware of it now. Were more aware of the longterm stuff that can happen. Look how screwed up i am. Can nip it in the bud early is super important cause earlier you get it done, the better. And having a partnership with finley is so important to us because they believe in what were doing and that is half the battle because they all have children and they know that we can make a difference and get better and make a change. It is so great. When i was young, i dont think the word bullying was used much. Now it is very much part of our language. But its good to remember too what it really and its not just about the people who do get belayed. Its creating the awareness, which youre doing with this event, for everybody. Were excited. How was it selected . We were one of 16 cities and universities that submitted a bid more than a year ago. We have a great partner in the Las Vegas Convention and business community. It was with their partnership and our application that really gave us the opportunity to host a debate. When you submit an application, you dont know if youll get a president ial debate or the single Vice President ial debate. Thats right. Extremely well because not only did we secure a president ial debate, we got the final debate just weeks before the election. Thats the last taste. Bam, we get the big one. Exactly. Were excited. It is so exciting. So many eyes are going to be on las vegas. So there must be a lot of pressure to prepare. How are preparations going . Well, as soon as weve learned weve gotten the big debate, we created what we call a Campus Engagement committee. With carl, in the provo office. A shout out for our committee because theyre just doing great work. Weve developed programs leading up to the event. We have metro series. We have horses and political science, history, communications, related to the debate. Were talking earlier. These are all nonpartisan. We want to focus to make sure thats the responsible thing. Otherwise, oh, my goodness. Exactly. This is a first of its kind for las vegas. First of its kind for nevada. I know youre doing all this engagement because really, people want to go to the debate and i know this is close up because essentially a television set. Youre producing a show for 70 Million People to watch. It really is. Its a made for tv event. If people want to get involved, there will be viewing events on campus and around the really it is a broadcast event for the television audience. 70 Million Viewers around the world. Well have five to 7,000 media that will be in las vegas on the unlv campus. Its a chance to showcase the university, the state, the destination. What were asking the community to do is embrace this because well get a chance to talk about issues that are important to las vegas, southern nevada, the state, and the west region as a whole. Students. K through 12 as well as unlv and csn and nevada state college. All of our programs are focused on education. We want people to be excited, have a good time. But we also want them to learn about the debate process and the president ial election. So we have a lot of activities. Were collaborating with the School District. We have an essay contest. Oh, neat. Theyre going to do high schools. And then the end, one which is a scholarship to unlv. Were very excited. This is really neat. It really raises awareness. A whole period of talking about politics in the president ial debate all leading up to this event. Exactly. My big question for them is can i come . Of course. Youll be getting a lot of that. I know. A lot of friends. Really, its a made for tv event. Were made for tv. You are. But perhaps you can get in as a you tickets to the general public because it is designed for the tv audience around the world and the media who are covering the event. And i understand that. Its gonna be a fun, friendly and extremely competitive match between our local firefighters and our local Police Officers. He left out one thing. There will be a lot of icy hot. Old men thinking they can still play soccer. You guys both grew up playing soccer. This is not like hey, try and kick the ball. Youve done it in the past. Bragging rights for a year, youre gonna have to hear the winner brag about this. It still hurts from last year. Did you lose last year . Unfortunately, the Police Department did lose last year. However, weve been hiring a lot of new officers. Our new officer p youve been recruiting based on soccer skills. Absolutely. Awesome. Its not gonna matter. [ laughter ] so what can they expect at the game . Obviously there will be trash talking going on. Oh, yeah. We always do that. Its a lot of fun. We love each other. But when we get on the field, its all a whole other game. Its about winning and taking home the trophy. With all the blood and sweat put aside, this is all for a really great cause. Tell me about the charities its benefitting. Burn foundation of southern nevada. Got a lot of great things, the kids that have been affected with burn. We have camps that we send them to, a winter camp. We have a beyond the scars camp we send them to. Any displayed pet families from fires we support that and help them out. Partner with the red cross. We also any kids in the neighborhood that we as fire Service People recognize that need help beyond the fires, beyond anything else, we try to recognize them and help them out as well. How about the we have the injured Police Officers fund. That is a foundation that has been created that helps the families of officers that have been injured or died in the line of duty. Absolutely. Very admirable causes for sure. I know beyond soccer there will be other stuff on site. Well have fire trucks there. Face painting, super heros. Nice. Well have finger painting. There is going to be all kinds of fun stuff, food after the game. We go from 3 30 to 8 30. That are good for the fire police game and afterwards. Unlv soccer from 7 to 8 30. Great. Oh, my goodness, i love to create recipes with a lot of love and i came up with an arsenal of recipes for parents to use. I like to do what i call a cook once and kind of eat all week. So the first is an overnight oats if you ever tried this. This is mocha overnight oats, with a Peanut Butter swirl. Our peanut is peanuts and sea salt. No other inbound greed cents. Spread that on the bottom and milk, i sweeten it with a kick of coffee. Then in the morning you have breakfast ready for you. And then the morning youve got. [fast and its good to go. You can even take that in the car. So then for lunch, my kids and i make this two or three times a week. Its called muffin tin meat loaf. Ive only use six ingredients and i made it really easy and quick by using salsa. Salsa simplifies. Your tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, garlic, all in and so i used that and then i put them in a muffin tin because i found with my kids, making it one step more magical, theyre more likely to eat it. The cool thing about these is that you can freeze them and eat them later or use them all week. And then finally for dinner, one pot penne. If you have a big family, doing things in one pot is wonderful. This youre going to saute onions and garlic, add our grass fed ground peeve and salsa and chicken broth. Absorbs the good flavors of the chicken broth and salsa. Then you can top it, i like to top it with avocado. The healthy fats that reduce our body fault. Tomatoes and cheese.
