"personally i was shocked she was still alive, knowing the temperatures we had and when i saw the footprints blown in like they were," "before we even found her i'm like she's been walking for a while." hayes is currently at mercy medical center, in sioux city. family members say she's still not able to talk, but they are hoping for a speedy recovery. the storm lake police department will soon start using body cameras. the police department hosted a town hall meeting to answer questions from community members. during the meeting, an officer showed folks how the cameras work. storm lake's police chief says the cameras are an important addition for the department. technology where the officers are going to be videotaping them a lot more when they come in one to one contact, so if the citizens have questions on privacy, or when will the cameras be rolling, how will the data be stored, how will it be used, we wanted to take this opportunity to answer any of those types of questions." said mark prosser, public safety director/police chief. storm lake police expect body cameras will be placed into full service by later this month, or early next month. schools in northeast nebraska rejected proposals for transgender athletes. yesterday, members from district 3 of the nebraska school activity assocation met in norfolk. the proposal that came closest to passing was one to allow students to participate in sports based on their gender at birth. 21 members voted "yes", but another 26 members voted "no." had it passed it would have allowed students to identify with the gender on their birth certificate, which can be changed. bellar says they'll consider all proposals that follow the wishes of the schools. (sot: chris walker, patient) "i'm also desperate for some way to go. i'm running out of ideas." we asked united healthcare about the information chris says he received at the last minute... after a lengthy investigation, a spokeswoman told news four: "the meer was told on several occasions prior to his surgery that the hospital... was not in his plan's network." they didn't specify when. they add: "he had the option to seek care at an in- network hospital." so the nearly thirty thousand dollars in charges.... stand. (sot: chris walker, patient) "when i asked about the surgeon, about the hospital bills what about the anesthetist and gone through a list of being you know something like that. that would've saved everything." >> that was lynda baquero reporting. if you do have to have surgery, make sure you check your insurance policy first. still to come on news 4 today..... siouxland leaders from different faiths came together to promote religious tolerance. how they're helping feed the hungry, straight ahead. leaders of different faiths, from all around siouxland, came together yesterday. not only did they talk about their differences, but they also helped feed the hungry. ktiv's tommie clark has more. rabbi guy greene, of beth shalom congregation, reached out to leaders of different faiths to unite them for one purpose. "it's going to be a real show of support for the muslim community since they've been attacked and hurt in so many ways, lied and talked about in ways that are just not acceptable,"said the most reverend r. walker nickless, bishop of the diocese of sioux city. every leader grabbed a food item... packing food. ...at the food bank of packaging food sacks for kids in the community. "it's very important we come together to work on projects together and show our tolerance, understanding of each other and learn from each other," said congregation beth shalom's rabbi guy greene. the religious an atmosphere of respect for every religion and practice. (sot: jeff ulleweit, inmate) "oh, it's great. you learn a whole bunch. you know you have to put yourself in the dog's position to know how they're thinking and why they think that." the program started almost a year ago and since then has helped eight dogs get adopted. (sot: brett frazier, humane society) "the outcome has just been phenomenal of the support that they've had to rescue the dogs and to give them a second chance. " a new leash on life pairs pets in need with people in need. allowing the dogs a better chance to be trained and socialized. (sot: brett frazier, humane society) "we have hundreds and hundreds of dogs who come through our shelter every year. a lot of those dogs are adoptable when they come to us, and that's great. some dogs though need a little bit of extra help." the dogs are provided by the humane society. volunteers from the badger kennel club visit the jail to help with training. "here at the jail, the sheriff, the staff, the inmates --they are those people who care. and that's making not just a big difference for our shelter, but for these individual dogs. (gov. nikki haley, (r) south carolina) "during anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. we must resist that temptation." haley told reporters today it was trump and others she was calling out. (gov. nikki haley, (r) south carolina) person i talked about. i know people want to say that's what it was. so, what i would say to mr. trump is don't take it personally." the governor's comments touched off a firestorm from some conservatives. ann coulter assailed her indian-american heritage, tweeting: trump should deport nikki haley trump said haley - a rising republican star - was off his short-list for vice president. (voice of donald trump, (r) presidential candidate) fox/ fox and friends (pre-fonted on graphic) "i wouldn't say she's off to a good start >> the republican presidential candidates face off in the first debate of being hosted by fox business network and will focus on economic, domestic and international policy issues. the seven candidates chosen for the main debate are donald trump, senator ted cruz, senator marco rubio, ben carson, governor chris christie, jeb bush and governor john kasich. the debate will be held at the north charleston coliseum and performing arts center in north charleston, south carolina. the day after president obama's final state of the union speech the president took his message on the road. before delivering his speech on the campus of the university of nebraska omaha yesterday, the president visited the home of lisa martin...a citizen who wrote the president a heartfelt letter about climate change and what kind of world are we leaving behind for her new born son. later on, while addressing an enthusiastic crowd at the university, the president reiterated some of his most popular points from his state of the union speech and the strength of the american economy. norfolk health care provider. he's getting help from those he's healed over the years. when physician assistant john davies started having nosebleeds last year, he saw a doctor. he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. it's a fairly rare condition that affects less than one-tenth of one percent of americans each it's only treatable with a liver transplant. a facebook post about davies went viral. the donor phone lines lit up with more than 100 calls from people willing to help. davies: "that's the blessing part. you think about how everybody thinks they owe me. they don't owe me these types of things, but they want to help. they want to say "i can do this.'" davies says he has found a likely match, and now wants to promote organ donation so others can get the same response he did. briar cliff students are giving back to the community at various charities this week. first year students are help out at various charities. 200 students are spending their time at 20 different agences with 2,000 total hours service. and since it's service learning, they're also reflecting on their experiences too. yesterday, students played with kids from character building games. (sot: dr. jonathan foret, orthopedic surgeon) "usually they come in and just say that they fell, but after talking to them a little more, because their injury is typically more than we would see from a regular fall, they say they were trying out their hoverboard or their kid's hoverboard and had a fall." (reporter standup: britney glaser) "hoverboard injuries have increased so rapidly, that the consumer product safety commission has issued a warning to users about fall risks." (sot: dr. jonathan foret, orthopedic surgeon) "we've been seeing injuries both to the bones and joints, wrists and ankle injuries, fractures and those types of things," said dr. foret. "it's been more than what would be expected just from a typical fall." doctor foret says injuries are more serious because of the height and speed behind the fall. (sot: dr. jonathan foret, orthopedic surgeon) "i think they underestimate the stability of it and so they get on it and probably don't have the right protective equipment and then they fall and when they fall from an elevated platform, the energy is quite a bit more than falling from standing," said dr. foret. some of the broken bones have required casts.. even surgery, other tears, sprains, and strains can ground a person for several weeks. doctor foret offers these tips if you plan to step aboard a hoverboard.
