(voicc of donald trump/ (r) presidentialalcandidate)i think he'' a sick person and i think he was a -- probably a person ready to go. we don't even know the purpose -- i mean, he hasn't come out to the best of my knowledge with a statement as to why it happened to be at that location.>> a bond hearing is set today for chicago police officer jason van dyke- charged with murder in the shooting death of laquan mcdonald. dashcam video shows mcdonald being shot 16 times- some shots fired after the 17-year-old fell to the groundnd the rrlease of ttt video last week parked protests in response to the october 20-14 shooting. van dyke's lawyer says the officer opened fire because he feared for his life and those of other mcdonald had a knife. the first of six baltimore police officers involved in the death of freddie gray goes to today. gray died in april, a week after sustaining grave injuries while in the back of a baltimore his death sparked riots in the city. the charges against william porter include involuntary manslaughter and second degree assault. all six officers will be tried separately. prosecutors plan to call porter as a witness against at least two other officers. an online threat has prompted the university of chicago to cancel classes today. school officials say the f-b-i that an unknown posted an online threat of gun violence against the school's campus quad. the school posted the cancellation alert on its website and sent a l lter to students and facultyleaders called the closing a "precaution" and urged everyone to avoid coming to campus unless it's an emergency. the f-b-i is continuing to investigate the source and possible motive behind the threat. a bus carrying dozens of college ststents overturned in southern virginia. police say the bus was carrying 49 passengers from virginia tech, radford university, and the university of virginia when it overturned and was then hit by a car in chesterfield. at least 33 people were hurt... including one critically. popoce say the bus was c crying the college studenen from richmond to their various schools. investigators are working to determine what caused the crash. omaha police have identified two victims from a shooting that occurred over the weekend. police say 21-year-old jonathan johnson died from gunshot wounds saturday at creighton medical center. a second man, 21-year-old suffered non-life- threatening officers were called to the shooting around 11 a.m. saturday. authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should authorities are investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured another in downtown des moines. des moines police say 21- year-old edmanuel perez was killed and 23- year-old andrew hurley-boyd was hospitalized. officers responded to the incident around 1:10 sunday morning in the city's popular court avenue district. polili say investigators are working to locate potential suspects. the fatal shooting is the 17th homicide in des moines this year. downtown sioux city is home to many locally owned shops. siouxlanders were encouraged to support those local businesses over the weekend, on "small business saturday." ktiv's'sommie clark shares how "the whistle stop" on nebraska street, was a popular place on saturday. years ago when he decided to antique shop. he sells everything from half-a-century old toy cars to classic furniture. "the first time i think i started going to antique stores i was 10- years-old. i had a paper route and when i when i got paid i'd go buy something at the antique store,"said the whistle stop owner, charles swaggerty. swaggerty says "small business saturday" is especially important for stores like his. "i think it's important to have local businesses instead of going to the big box stores. we usually have done well on small business saturday. a lot of our renters are running sales right now from 10% to 50% off so it's a big day for us," said the whistle stop owner, charles of his shop to dozens of vendors. one of those renters is sioux city native and vietnam veteran, rob hardy. he says every day's a bit more fun and he's happy to be at the whistle stop. ("cnn state of the union") super burned in (sot: rep. michael mccaul/ (r) texas :41-:53) "i hope while he's talking about climate change in paris. he's talking about how can the nato forces and the u.s. coalition forces and possibly the russians work to defeat and destroy isis." potential sticking points include whether big countries like france and the u-s have a greater responsiblity... dealing with oil-rich countries like saudi arabia... and who pays to help developing nations clear the air? plus: small island nations want assurance they'll be protected from storms and rising sea levels that they can't control. i'm tracie potts in washington, now back to you. >> republican presidential candidate ben carson toured refugee camps in syria and suggested that the camps should serve as a long-term solution to the syrian refugee crisis. carson said that he found a syrian refugee camp in jordan to be quote "quite nice," and that people there would rather stay or return home to syria than come to the united states. the carson campaign released video saturday of dr. carson's visits to two refugee camps. he told associated press that other refugees not taken in by camps could be absorbed by middle eastern countries. his visit came as he tried to strengthen his fluency on international affairs as foreign policy becomes a greater focus in the 20-16 presidential contest. a lawyer for the man accused of scaling the white house fence on thanksgiving says his client was "trying to deliver a message." twenty-three-year- old joseph caputo was draped in an american flag when he jumped over a white house fence on thanksgiving -prompting a brief lockdown. caputo's lawyer, stephan seeger, said that his client was "politically- conscious" and trying to "deliver a message" about issues with education and the legal system. court documents stated caputo left a suicide note, but seeger says that could not be quote "further from the truth" and caputo's words were "mischaracterized." caputo is expected to appear in federal court today. the luxembourg heritage society of northwest iowa rolled out the red carpet for two visitors from overseas. claude loutsch and his father traveled more than 4,500 miles to visit the remsen area. they're both farmers from luxembourg and they wanted to see how agriculture's u.s. plus, they have relatives who live in plymouth a potluck event took place at the vfw hall in remsen to welcome the two to the area. dozens showed up. remsen was originally settled by luxembourg and german immigrants. the loutsch's will stay in northwest iowa until tuesday before they head to the milwaukee area. recently, siouxlanders came together to talk about the possibility of legalizing marijuana. tommie clark has the details from that meeting. officer jim gerhardt spoke to siouxlanders about how the drug he says is one of the most common and deadliest crimes in the united states. and, it's the number one cause of death for those 16-to-24-years old. "people don't recognize their level of impairment they think they're ok. a lot of these folks really convince themselves that marijuana doesn't impair," said thorton, colorado police force and colorado drug investigators gerhardt. gerhardt says it's flat out a drug. now, but you're gonna add significant numbers of problems so if iowans decide to do it just understand you're not gonna get great tax the costs of these social problems by tax revenue. what you're doing basically is you're empowering drug dealers to make a whole lot of money selling this empairing substance and all the collateral problems that come with it and you're in for a long haul if you do it," said thorton, colorado police department north metro task force and colorado drug president, jim gerhardt. decide to legalize the drug, they need to provide more education too. clark...ktiv news 4. >> experts say marijuana is a growing concern partly because of the rise in prescription drug abuse, changing attitudes and access to the drug. the weather outside will be frightful...but inside, it's delightful. that was the theme of the lewis and clark interpretive center's program on sunday. music playing. christmas music lit up the betty strong encounter center stage. new horizons band of siouxland performed popular seasonal tunes. the musical repertoire musical styles. flute, trumpet and trombone were just a few of the instruments siouxlanders could hear. "with every program that we have, and usually sundays afternoons are a big program, that's a cornerstone of this center, which is a private non-profit. it keeps the vitality of the center going. many people come to the programs it may be their first time that they've come here so along with hearing the music, they take their journey of discovery through the interpretive center," said sioux city lewis and clark interpretive center executive new horizons consists of musicians from all over siouxland. siouxland kids look forward to sitting on santa's lap all year and on saturday, they got their chance. sioux city parks and recreation hosted their 12th annual breakfast with santa event over the weekend.. they kicked off the holiday season with one of the first opportunities to see santa claus. the fun, festive event also included a pancake breakfast, crafts, and cookie decorating. "it's a little bit different environment instead of just meetin santa claus. you get the whole experience with breakfast, we got christmas music playing, we got elves running around doing face painting-- it's something unique to sioux city," said sioux city recreation supervisor for parks and recreation, eric griffith. while there, the kids could also with his elves and mrs. claus. (voice of donald trump/ (r) presidential candidate)i think he's a sick person and i think he was a -- probably a person ready to go. we don't even know the purpose -- i mean, he hasn't come out to the best of my knowledge with a statement as to why it happened to be at that location.>> a bond hearing is set today for chicago police officer jason van dyke- charged with murder in the shooting death of laquan mcdonald. dashcam video shows mcdonald being shot 16 times- some shots fired after the 17-year-old fell to the ground. the release of that video last week sparked protests in response to the october 20-14 shooting. van dyke's lawyer says the officer opened fire because he feared for his life and those of other police officers when he saw mcdonald had a knife. the first of six baltimore police officers involved in the death of freddie gray goes to trial today. gray died in april, a week after sustaining grave injuries while in the back of a baltimore police van. his death sparked riots in the city. the charges against william porter include involuntary manslaughter and second degree assault. all six officers will be tried separately. prosecutors plan to call porter as a witness against at least two other officers. an online threat has prompted the university of chicago to cancel classes today. school officials say the university was informed by the f-b-i that an unknown individual posted an online threat of gun violence against the school's campus quad. the school posted the cancellation alert on its website and sent a letter to students and faculty. leaders called the closing a "precaution" and urged everyone to avoid coming to campus unless it's an emergency. the f-b-i is continuing to investigate the source and possible motive behind the threat. a bus carrying dozens of college students overturned in southern virginia. police say the bus was carrying 49 passengers from virginia tech, radford university, and the university of virginia when it overturned and was then hit by a car in chesterfield. at least 33 people were hurt... including one critically. police say the bus was carrying the college students from richmond to their various schools. investigators are working to determine what caused the crash. omaha police have identified two victims from a shooting that occurred over the weekend. police say 21-year-old jonathan johnson died from gunshot wounds center. a second man, 21-year-old nathaniel bailey, suffered non-life- threatening injuries. officers were called to the shooting around 11 a.m. saturday. authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact omaha police. authorities are investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured another in downtown des moines. des moines police say 21- killed and 23- year-old andrew hurley-boyd was hospitalized. officers responded to the incident around 1:10 sunday morning in the city's popular court avenue district. police say investigators are working to locate potential suspects. the fatal shooting is the 17th homicide in des moines this year. after the chaos of black friday, shoppers were encouraged to "shop small" on saturday. ktiv's tommie clark takes us to a downtown shop that benefits from "small business saturday." renters are running sales right now from 10% to 50% off so it's a big day for us," said the wh swaggerty. he rents out portions of his shop to dozens of vendors. one of those renters is sioux city native and vietnam veteran, rob hardy. he says every day's a bit more fun and he's happy to be at the whistle stop. "if you legalize it then you're done. there is no way to contain it. you're gonna have more people using over the years," said thorton, colorado police department north metro task force and colorado drug investigators association vice president, jim gerhardt. officer jim gerhardt spoke to siouxlanders about how the drug causes impaired driving-- which he says is one of the most common and deadliest crimes in the united states. and, it's the number one cause of death for those 16-to-24-years old. "people don't recognize their level of impairment they think they're ok. a lot of these folks really convince themselves that marijuana doesn't impair," said thorton, colorado police department north metro task force and colorado drug investigators association vice president, jim gerhardt. gerhardt says it's flat out a bad decision to legalize the drug. "of all the problems you have now, but you're gonna add significant numbers of problems with another impairing substance so if iowans decide to do it just understand you're not gonna get great tax benefits you're not gonna offset the costs of these social problems by tax revenue. what you're doing basically is you're empowering drug dealers to make a whole lot of money selling this empairing substance and all the collateral problems that come with it and you're in for a long haul if you do it," said thorton, colorado police department north metro task force and colorado drug investigators association vice president, jim gerhardt. gerhardt says if more states do decide to legalize the drug, they need to provide more education too. in sioux city...tommie clark...ktiv news 4. >> experts say marijuana is a growing concern partly because of the rise in prescription drug abuse, changing attitudes and access to the drug. siouxland kids look forward to sitting on santa's lap all year and on saturday, they got their chance. sioux city parks and recreation hosted their 12th annual breakfast with santa event over the weekend.. they kicked off the holiday season with one of the first opportunities to see santa claus. the fun, festive event also included a pancake breakfast, crafts, and cookie decorating.
