Bortvits family reported him missing on june 6th. The 19yearolds body was found the next day in a rural part of emmet county. The day after that, christensen was arrested at the minneapolis airport. Christensens trial was orginally set for today. That trial was delayed over concerns about a potential conflict of interest regarding the attorney representing christensen and members of his family. Transportation Security Administration Officials Say they found a loaded firearm at the sioux gateway airport. The weapon was found on sunday in a carryon bag. Students showed off coding projects there. Something reynolds says she sees tremendous opportunity in offering in elementary schools. If we want to fill that pipeline of talent and if we want to keep our young people in the state of iowa, this is an industry sector thats growing, that will continue to grow and provides tremendous opportunities. Reynolds is scheduled to visit school in march. Reynolds also sat down with ktivs sarah te slaa to discuss the nearly two Million Dollars raised for the Summer Reading Program Pilot study. Its a test run of the program the state will be rolling out in 2017. Sometimes Summer Reading programs are about maintaining where they are at, we are really hoping that not only can we maintain where they are at but elevate them to a higher level, says reynolds. The Governors Office says about 25 percent of the states third graders arent reading at their grade level. This program is to help those students who are struggling. Several School Districts in siouxland have signed up for the program, including sioux city. A former Storm Lake City Council member announced she will run for a seat in the iowa legislature. Sarah huddleston served three terms as a Council Member in storm lake. She was appointed by governor tom vilsack as a commissioner for the Latino Affairs commission under the department of human rights. She is running in house counties. An Iowa Senate Panel advanced a bill that would make it a hate crime to commit an offense against a person because that person is transgender. The bill must pass out of the full committe by friday to meet a deadline and stay alive this session. The Sioux City Community schools are changing their lunch menus.
