time for a while as we prepare for our first major dose of winter weather. as of now, it looks like snow will begin to make its move across siouxland from west to east tomorrow morning and exit the viewing area by late tomorrow evening and is expected to drop anywhere from a couple of inches in southern and western siouxland up to 6-7 inches in parts of northern and eastern siouxland. cold weather will settle in behind that system and will yield lows in the teens and highs in the 20s and 30s this weekend before returning to the 40s with sunshine by early next week. >> 31 governors are now saying they want to close their borders to syrian refugees. they cite indications that one terror attackers may have entered france posing as a syrian refugee. however, there is at least one iowa mayor who is rolling out the welcome mat. brad hanson reports. security of the united states. i completely understand the security issue. he makes a very good point that we absolutely do need to continue to look at that. there are mechanisms in place that we vet folks who apply for refugee status." brad hanson/ reporting "i spoke with one of swisher's librarians, who tells me she is incredibly proud of her mayor for making this proclamation, and says he is very well liked and supported in this community. in fact, he won last month's election with 97 percent of the votes. and while he may have won by a landslide to get in, not everybody in this community supporting this decision." for antonio vega, the security issue certainly plays a part. antonio vega/ swisher "that is part of our issue. we have a little town here, and i'm not saying that it's going to happen, but hopefully our government is doing a thorough, deep investigation on whoever we allow to come over here." >> that was brad hanson reporting from swisher, iowa. at least one swisher city council member opposes the proclamation, but mayors in iowa city, coralville and north liberty all spoke in favor of welcoming and assisting refugees. lutheran family services in nebraska says it will continue to help syrians who are seeking asylum despite concerns raised by governor pete ricketts. he's asked the state's resettlement organizations to halt their efforts until security concerns are addressed. lutheran family services says it will honor the request, but it will still help syrians who arrive by other means. that includes helping families who have sought asylum in nebraska since civil war engulfed syria in 2011. the organization has helped 10 such syrians in the past three years. authorities say a police officer shot to death in the parking lot of the downey, california police headquarters was apparently targeted. they say officer ricardo galvez was in the driver's seat of his personal vehicle when two suspects ran up and opened fire late wednesday. the five-year department veteran died in the car. a search for at least one suspect continues at this hour. a large perimeter has been set up and several apartment buildings have been evacuated as swat officers sweep the area. several people have been detained. police and protesters clashed overnight in minneapolis... trading volleys of rocks and pepper spray as a sit-in continued calling for justice in the shooting death of jamar clark. just after nightfall protesters began surrounding the precinct and chanting when police sprayed the crowd with pepper spray. minneapolis police say protesters began throwing rocks, bricks, and bottles at officers. the president of the minneapolis police union says clark was shot and killed by officers sunday when he tried to take one of their weapons. former subway pitchman and confessed child molestor jarred fogel is being sentenced today in indianapolis. nbc's jay gray has the latest. sentencing inside.. the former subway pitchman.. and 38-year-old father of two has pled guilty to possessing or distributing child pornography and traveling across state lines to engage in sex with minors. josh minkler / u-s attorney for the southern district of indiana "fogle admitted that he repeatedly traveled from indiana to new york to engage in commercial sex acts with victims he knew to be children. this conduct began as early as 2010." subway severed ties with fogle when the investigation was announced. since then he has agreed to pay a total of 1.4-million- dollars to his 14 victims, each getting 100,000- dollars.. and as part of a plea deal.. prosecutors capped their request for prison time at 12-and-a-half years - the government also wants fogel to be supervised after release for the rest of his life.. his attorneys have requested a 5-year sentence.. jay gray, nbc news >> the sun is back, but the winds are picking up. meterologist ben dorenbach will be here with the details... plus, the latest on just how much snow we're expecting tomorrow. news four at noon continues in a moment. here's the view from spencer, where it's degrees. it looks nice outside, but it's windy! (bridget hogan/mother) "it's been around the clock 24 hour care, bottles every two hours. just eating, changing, dressing, and doing it all over again." hogan's doctor at the university of iowa hospitals and clinics says she was fantastic during her pregnancy. (dr. stephen hunter/direct or of maternal fetal medicine) "i knew she was miserable and yet she never complained. she was grateful when 35 and a half weeks got here." dr. hunter says he the occurrence of triplets without the use of fertility drugs is so rare, he can't put a number on it.
