asking people not to bring bags or back packs on the strip. to help make things more safe, because they're going to be paying extra attention to anything that might appear unusual, and that will eliminate at least some of the work, if people don't have backpacks or bags that could potentially create some type of a security concern. i'm craig figener reporting live, make it a happy new year. avoid the 15, right? here's a look outside on the red rock visitors center camera from yesterday. well, we saw nothing but clear blue skies. look at all that traffic out there, that's great to see, a president says one thing he misses the most since becoming president is, you know, his privacy. his anonymity. he says the first week he slept in the white house was strange. i know also the first lady was kind of talking about once they leave the white house, kind of being able to do simple things. she says whether she's in the president am caravan and inside the vehicle, she'll try to roll what we're expecting heading into the new year. at 6:00 p.m., 45 degrees, so as you're heading out, it's going to be chilly, bundle up. 40 degrees by 9:00 p.m. and at midnight, as we ring in the new year, 37 degrees. that's what we are expecting for a temperature in downtown las vegas. of course, if you're out on the street, you have a little bit of the body heat going on, but it's, you know, because you're the clouds, it will warm it up a little bit, but it's still going to be killie. >> tom: all right. -- to be chilly. >> tom: right now, there's not a lot to worry about on the roadways, we'll take you in from the northeast into the spaghetti bowl, looks great.g you. that's our floor director coming travel times on the roadways and looking good from a camera view. no major delays, no big tieups at the moment, krystal and michelle. >> thank you, tom. >> michelle: oh, it's. coming to me. >> krystal: it's to you, michelle. >> michelle: talk about an uber protest for new year's eve, because drivers are upset over a rate cut of 30% over the holiday season. uber cut the rate by 30%, arguing the goal is to give passengers an incentive to ride. the more riders, the more income. however, drivers we spoke to say they don't see it that way. on on-line forums, uber drivers are deciding whether to refuse rides altogether, because they want to send a message, but turning a deaf ear tother dollar sign pings. >> it's not a viable thing long-term for anybody who has a mortgage and b a life. >> will you be driving on new >> last week, on christmas, i went opt, i wasn't expecting how busy it was. i mean, it was crazy busy. i would expect the same thing tomorrow. >> krystal: the silent protest is not just being discussed for new year's eve, but for every week for an hour l until the rates change, but it's up up to the individual driver to participate. you saw vicki gonzalez in some of the video here and spoke to an uber representative on the phone and the ridesharing company really wouldn't give specifics or rate breakdown, but did say riders can expect a healthy supply of drivers for the only direct transportation to the strip. you can head over to news3lv.com for por information on that. -- more information on that. >> >> krystal: preparation are underway for the big finale on tonight's strip, fireworks put on by grucci, it is truly amaze, if you never had curran, i think we're in the clear, so we're looking pretty clear. the show should go on. they will launch fireworks from seven resort rooftops stretching from the mgm gram to the stratosphere. so it is really and truly a site to see. my fir year here, i had an opportunity to stand on the balcony of the cast cosmo, and watch the fireworks. >> michelle: i've never been down there because i don't like crowds, but i have sat in my living room and watched it and then i went to bed right afterwards, it was fabulous. you don't have to stand with the huddled masses to ring in the new year, how about on top of the stratosphere. >>al: st's one of the best news in town and that's where we find our kyndell nunley. she is taking us live atop the stratosphere with a look at the big bash underway. so let's go ahead and send it here. i'll get out of the way so you can see exactly what is behind me. these are 360-degree views of all the las vegas, so there are certain areas where you can also points, but from here, you cannot only see the strip, but look at this, est entire las vegas valley, so i'm sure some of you out there are watching with us, waking up with us this morning and we can see where you are, because we're looking down on all of las vegas. going on at the stratosphere tonight, they have a n the higher levels, so at level 108 will be the claire st. claire tower bash, a party with the pinup party host tonight, and it's definitely going to be a lot of fun. now here at the stratosphere, they will shall having fireworks, -- be having fireworks going off up the tower, it will kind of move on up, so if you're going to be down on the strip or somewhere where you can actually see the fireworks, well, get this, there will be an after party at the stratosphere as well, start at 5:00 a.m. tonight, tickets are only $50 per person, so we know the after parties can get pricey, but this is where you can come tonight, a comparable price to get a good price for holidays and on new year's eve. a good, good price. seeing the views is definitely something that the stratosphere has that is unique in las vegas. so if i can tell you to encourage you to come out here for yourself, if you come down, there there be fireworks, moving up the tower and of course, right when we hit 2016, it will be the grand show. for now reporting live from the tower, at the stratosphere, kyndell nunley. >> michelle: is this your first stratosphere? >> the reporter: it is my first wh i walked out, i was expecting it to be beautiful, but to tell you how i felt, it was not -- i wasn't expecting it to be as beautiful as it was. >> the reporter: i was surprised surprised. >> michelle: you're going to get a great shot of the sunrise this morning. it's gorgeous, kyndell. enjoy. tweet some pictures out. we were talk. >> krystal: we were talking about this, you'll be in the comfort of your home and a lot of people don't want to worry about the crowds, so don't worry, we'll bring the coverage to you. we'll have coverage starting at 10:00 p.m. on our news station, right here, news 3. >> michelle: and then there's these jeans here. wondering what this is about. somebody found a of farook, two charges he was initial -- marquez is expected to be arraigned in u.s. district court on january 6th. >> michelle: well, two days before the bowl game, tcu's treyvon boykin was taken into custody early this morning after a fight at a san antonio bar. pray cording to police, boykin hit a patrol officer who was there responding to the fight. police say the trouble began when bar patrons recognized the player and started to, you know, talk some trash, i guess, is what happened. they say an upset boykin took a swing, missed, made contact with a bar employee instead, and that's when police say bike officers arrived and came upon boykin as he was taking swings and anyways, so not a good situation for them and i am sorry, but i am not a huge sports person. tcu is -- >> tom: vegas has been studying she almost went too a restaurant with friends right when the first shooting happened but decided to stay home after the other attacks. she shared the impact that this violence has had on her. >> you see all of these things on the news and you read about it and people give their own opinions, but you don't really understand it, and so, because i was there, it really impacted
