threat was another hoax. faith jessie is live at the school where some parents were so afraid they choose to keep their children at home. >> reporter: that's right. there was a heavy police presence in response to a clown threat driven by social media over the weekend. it's a threat that's been seen by clark county a lot over the past few weeks. police are not taking the threat likely. a heavy police presence outside t instagram account under the name shooter the clown. >> i saw an instagram. a few of my friends said there were threats, shooter the clown requested to follow a friend of mine. >> reporter: this junior missing out on halloween activities and classes. >> my mom didn't want me to go to school. >> reporter: the principal sent this to parents and said police will have a heightened presence not. at first it's hard to believe and then it's scary. >> reporter: clown threats, all too familiar in clark county schools in the last few weeks. earlier, there was a threatening text. >> there's no credibility. there have been no incidents of any clowns that have chased kids, have battered kids, have been seen with guns. we have notad clark county. >> reporter: metro experiencing the escalating threats but staying they've all been false alarms. still, many remain on edge. >> i will take her there. wait for a while after she gets out and i will come back and pick her up. >> it's annoying. i've seen it on twitter, facebook and instagram. it's gotten really annoying. i was, like, really scared. i feel like i shouldn't have to >> reporter: according to metro, whoever is behind this could face misdemeanor harassment charges and some jail time. faith jessie reporting, news 3. >> all right. thank you for that. tonight, police are telling us about a very real threat that they were able to prevent. a 15-year-old high school freshman is in jail tonight accused of planning a mass shooting at his school. he was desert oasis at jones and cooks tis. -- last night at desert oasis. sergio avila has more. >> reporter: we just spoke to a parent who took her daughter out of a theater class that's ongoing because she just heard about this arrest. yes, that's right. police credit an alert parent saying that parent kicked off the investigation that led to the shootings. >> reporter: bridget toole heard the news of the threat here at desert oasis from her son. >> i have two students and to hear about something like this, you -- deep down you hope it's not true. and if it is, you hope that kid is in custody or they find out what's going on before something terrible happens. >> reporter: the threat was true, according to police. an alert parent in arizona called law enforcement after overhearing her child talking about rumors of a pnn shooting. >> this is in parent thanks to a parent paying attention, thanks to a parent that did not sit on the information and brought the information forward. thanks to those students that brought the information forward. >> reporter: detectives investigated the threat and found enough evidence to charge a 15-year-old student with making terrorist threats. >> i heard there was police around the school. everyone was wondering what was going on. >> reporter: ryley toole said threatening to shoot up the school. >> everyone was kind of watching their surroundings. we saw police and so we kind of figured it was true. >> reporter: school police remain tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation. they would not tell us if any weapons were found or if the student researched a terrorist organization. what they would say is school police believe the schos safe. no threat anymore. they believe that student was acting alone and did not have any vendetta against any other students. sergio avila, news 3. jim, back to you. >> okay. thank you for that. a school bus driver was hurt today when the bus was hit by a car. it happen happened near charleston and buffalo. there were students on board. none of them were hurt. a 7-year-old murdered. we have her first look at the man arrested. cuffed and arrested on sunday at the budget suites on boulder highway. according to metro, paramedics were called for a medical event of some sort and then they called police after it was abundantly clear the child suffered from physical abuse. the child lived there with his mother and several other children. those children are in protective custody. an arrest in the murder of a woman found lying in the street last week. we told you it when that happened. metro detectives now tell us javon hudson and the victim had been dating. she's not been identified. her body was found last wednesday near alta and jones. an operation is underway to make sure your children stay safe this halloween. kelsey thomas is live near downtown las vegas to tell you more. kelsey?
