>> they should have shut it down years ago. frankly, they should have probably never opened it. but they should shut it down and give the money back to and gays and just about everybody else. it is ridiculous they've taken in tens of millions of dollars. it's pay for play. you pay and you play. and i think it is a very, very bad thing for them and i think probably in many cases totally illegal. >> reporter: this is an organization, a massive nonprofit that helps a lot of people around the world. what would shutting it down do to those-- >> it hurts a lot of people. people go in and they see what's going on and they make a access to government. it's like selling government. so it is a very, very bad thing. and i think they will end up shutting it down. >> reporter: and shutting it down would accomplish? >> it would at least stop all the pay for play. i mean, it would stop what's going on when she was secretary of state they would make contributions and all of a sudden they have access and favors. it's ridiculous. i think they should shut it down. we'll see what happens. >> reporter: you have mentioned pay to play several times. way. if so, if that is true, what are the cliblts giving -- clintons giving and what are the recipients getting. >> they wrote a whole book on it. it was well received. the book is talking about a lot of things that have happened. when you have so many countries from different parts of the world that have such horrible views on gays and women and everybody, and they have taken tens of millions of dollars. $25 million in some cases. >> krystal: bill clinton saying he will step down and won't raise money for the foundation if his wife is elected. also foreign donations from corporations will no longer be accepted. >> michelle: we continued to reach out to the clinton campaign for a one and one interview. if and when that happens we'll bring it your way. this brings us to our question of the day. we want to know what you think. should the clinton foundation be closed down? >> kelly: officially at the airport it's going to go down as a trace. but up towards the northern end of the las vegas valley we were looking at between about half-inch to inch-and-a-half. >> michelle: and look how much chaos that created. an inch to an and they had 30 inches. that's just really puts it into perspective. >> kelly: and imagine this is louisiana. a lot of this is very saturated ground to begin with. it's swampland in many locations. so definitely a major problem out there. can you imagine what would happen here if we had 30 inches of rain? we don't even want to think about that. let's talk instead about what we're seeing outside right now. a lot of blue sky out there. this is the inspirada overlook camera. we do have a little bit of haze you can start to see -- i'm going to try to point it out -- this is clouds. they're starting to form. a little bit of convection over the sheep range. that's one of the areas we're watching today. the sheep range and the spring range. we do have a lot of activity going on to our east. if we get any storms today they're going to pop up there. let's talk about these temperatures. i think it's been wild today. i mean, you needed a sweater this morning. 82, that's the current temperature at sun city anthem and volunteer. last week we didn't e lows this cool. here is a look at what we're seeing other places around the valley. centennial and summerlin, 81. we have a great breeze too. i don't know if you have been outside yet. it's fantastic. spring valley 85. henderson 85 degrees right now. this is what we've been seeing for lows lately. now it is a little bit muggy. the dew points, pretty high. lakes we're looking at 56 degree dew point. green valley 58. 61 in henderson. air. we're getting into the upper 50s, low 60s. we've got enough moisture in the air to create thunderstorms. it's just whether or not we can get these things going. here is a look at what we've got. that low pressure center, the trough that brought us the storms yesterday, it's continuing to track off to the east. arizona, utah, they're seeing showers, thunderstorms right now. not a whole lot going on in our area. a little bit of some activity into northern lincoln county. again, the sheep range and the spring mountains that's whe thunderstorms popping up later this afternoon. still a slight chance for action in the valley. that's something that we will be watching. there is also a flood warning in effect for the muddy river. the water has crested at glendale but it's continuing to go down stream. overton hasn't quite crested yet. this goes through middle of the night tonight. we're keeping an eye on that. and if you come across a flooded roadway, turn around, don't drown. today partly sunny skies. on news 3. we're going to have the latest updates. 98 that's today's expected high temperature. i think to be honest we're going to be struggling to hit that. 80 for the low tonight. chance of showers and storms in the evening then skies clearing out. tomorrow we are expected to go back to triple digits. but good news is it will be short lived. 102 tomorrow. mostly sunny skies. look at friday, saturday and sunday. dry conditions. sunny skies and highs in the double-digits. i'm liking the i'm not use to seeing double-digits. >> i got into my car during our break and it said 78. i thought something was wrong. >> krystal: i must admit last night it was cool enough to where i turned on the heat in my car. >> michelle: you did not? >> krystal: i did. [ laughter ] it was cool. i was out later than i should have been. >> michelle: i opened my windows and listened to the rain. right now hundreds of miles above earth astronauts are growing food. apparently this is really research to help nasa figure out how to some day feed astronauts on a manned mission to mars. >> krystal: that's right. nasa working closely with experts to determine the right combination of plants and growing conditions. this is really interesting. john rogers is going to take us there with this report. >> in zero gravity circling high above earth astronauts aboard the international space station new lettuce and it could never have been doneit of sweet grass farms in sarasota. at this hydroponic farm the owner has worked with nasa to figure out which plants would grow best on a spacecraft. he has tested a wide variety of plants including basil, lettuce, cabbage and tomatoes. >> this will probably be one of the same plants that gos to mars. >> reporter: nasa wants plants that pack a mighty punch in a small space and is easy to grow. these tomatoes fit the bill. grow 50 cherry tomatoes. >> nasa said this is what we want because it's compact, highly efficient. and we're going to grow this in the space station. >> reporter: but growing food is more than just planting seeds. that's where flori cam comes in. a sarasota based company that's developed a revolutionary type of fertilizer. >> typically you have to reapply every couple weeks. this you can p i and it will fertilize a plant for three months. nasa loves it because astronauts are too busy to be full-time farmers. >> less fertilizer being used, less waste and easier on labor for the farmer. >> reporter: their work will play a key role in keeping astronauts alive on their mission to mars. in new hampshire one woman got quite the surprise when she had uninvited guests and, of course, she got it on tape. look at the little cubs. oh my goodness. backyard. they want to play on the rope swing. i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. how do we make the economy workrk for everyone? hillary clinton's plan starts here... by making big corporations and those at the top finally pay their fair share in taxes. and those companies that move overseas? she'd charge them an exit tax. then she'd use that money to make the largest investment in creating good paying jobs since world war ii. >> krystal: a new hampshire homeowner had a few uninvited guests over the weekend. >> michelle: started as a typical sunday morning for this resident named jamie. until she noticed she has company. she has a mama bear and cubs. and she says the bears stayed for about half-hour. then they were just hanging out in the backyard climbing trees. they were hanging from the family rope swing. and, of course, searching for food. up turning over a trash can and carried it away in her mouth with her cubs following behind her. >> krystal: they just made themselves at home. got real comfortable real fast. >> michelle: a lot of animals out in the wild are getting so used to humans they're not scared. >> krystal: we've done a lot of stories about bears making themselves comfortable in people's backyards. stay with us we have a lot more people's backyards. stay with us we have a lot more to com for seniors like barbara, social security makes a difference every mononth. but for the wall street types social security could mean billions of dollars in fees. that's what privatizing social security means and why joe heck and wall street support it. under heck's privatization plan, retirement security gets risked on the stock market. and the wall street types supporting joe heck make billions. whose side are you on? senate majority pac is responsible i pledge allegiance, to the flag [continues in background] they're e bringing drugs, they'e brigning crime, they're rapists... you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes... blood coming out of her...wherever [pledge continues in background] you gotta see this guy; "oh, i don't know what i said. ah, i don't remember." get out! priorities usa action is responsible for the content of this advertising. >> michelle: welcome back! local olympian connor fields came back to las vegas and we were there when he was greeted by his family and a whole lot of fans. a look at the homecoming coming up in a live report. >> krystal: and mondays dark. you may not know what that a special guest is going to tell you how entertainers are stepping up to help raise funds for local charities in our community. the founder is here with an exciting announcement. that is coming up. >> michelle: back to school. our friends from town square are here in studio today. they've brought goodies, back-to-school shopping examples of the stuff that kids -- you know the latest styles that are hot. what you need. all that coming up >> announcerew right now. >> michelle: good afternoon. thank you for joining us. we have breaking news to start this half-hour with. we've heard the southern nevada health district has confirmed the very first case of the west nile virus in our area. it is a woman over the age of 50. >> krystal: she is suffering from a very serious form we understand of west nile. she had been released from the hospital. the virus of course transmitted through infected mosquitos. just breaking news we wanted to
