nobody was injured. a man ended up stopping in a field where he surrendered and was arrested. a valley man facing robbery and drug charges after trying to steal a woman's purse at the crackers restaurant in tempe. he dragged the woman through the parking lot in attempt to get that purse. he punched her at least 20 times in the face. this was a violent robbery. she was taken to the hospital and needed purse. he had a prior record and was arrested after someone identified him on a surveillance video. an 8-year-old girl who went missing in phoenix is back home tonight. timgoy dak was last seen at her apartment and last night, relatives reported her missing. she was found around 1:00 in the afternoon but detectives are a 9-year-old girl is found and safe. jade coyle walked away from her home yesterday morning around 10:00 a.m. her family reported her missing. jade showed up at home around 10:30 this morning. they are trying to figure out where she was. the tucson man charged with plotting attacks on government buildings around the court. he was planning to blow up a motor vehicle's office. he was arrested on terrorist-related charges. khan pled guilt you to terrorism. he is due back in court for sentencing. state troopers shot and killed an armed man after he did not stop for a traffic violation. he almost ran over one of the man and they had a gun. they perceived him to be a threat. troopers closed down the 101 and it is reopened and the scene has been cleared. a nasty surprise for hikers this morning. phoenix police stay in the parking lot of piestewa peak at least four vehicles had their windows shattered and one of the vehicles was keyed. marcy jones is live with more i assume there are items stolen as well. >> reporter: that's right, kari. the folks i talked to at piestewa peak today say the best way to put it is they are puzzled. this is a good neighborhood. it doesn't happen a lot around here. it is making them think twice about what they leave in their cars. when they heard there were four smash and grabs in the parking lot of piestewa peak, his reaction was shared by many. >> why is this happening? hard-working people earn their stuff. for someone to destroy their value of their things, it is tragic. >> reporter: he is a regular and says the string of car break-ins make him think about his routine. >> i feel safe but i hear something like this and it is tragic. we come here to hike and have a good time. go up there and enjoy the view and i have to take my belongings with me or not bring them at all. >> reporter: we caught up with barry white visiting his brother from london. he came for a relaxing hike but felt uneasy about the crimes. >> i was parking in the parking lot and there is no cameras or any kind of security cameras. it is just, you know, you're just leaving it to the hands of people who want to come and break into your car. >> reporter: he has been a victim of smash and grab before and hopes justice is served. >> it was a strange feeling. you feel totally violated. it is just items and material things that aren't that important you feel like someone has broken into your personal area and space and taking your belongings. it is the more of the fact that feeling of violated rather than the fact that things have been taken. >> reporter: of course, kari, you asked the most important question, what was taken and here is the good news about this story. police say nothing valuable was taken out of these cars. it was car manuals and paperwork, which the interesting and, of course, if you have any information sky fox over the scene at 24th street and roosevelt. no word on what caused the water main break. a massive rain and hailstorm hit safford over the weekend. a lot of schools were left with major flood damage. look at the size of the hail ball. the district has canceled school. it will reopen on monday, october 24. thousands of homes are damaged in north carolina after hurricane matthew rolled through. cars and ground-level homes submerged under water. the governor expects the flooding to be a big problem for the rest of the week there. a state of emergency has been declared in norfolk, virginia. that city's airport reporting 12 inches of rain in the area. downed trees and power lines found throughout the city. clinked to hurricane matthew while other people are missing. >> search and rescue is under way after many people were left stranded because of the flooding. hurricane matthew has moved away from the u.s. but the south is still recovering from the damage left behind. >> car. stefani is live with the story. >> reporter: phoenix police say they believe the young men were driving up to 80 miles an hour or more down here on central avenue before they, unfortunately, lost control and crashed. the vehicles were standing in cars crashed and one of them died. friends and family have gathered within the last 10 minutes or so. everyone is filled with tears. they are picking up pieces left behind with the crash and they are very angry. this crash happening so unfortunately and all three of the men, 17, 18, and 22-year-old are now dead.
