( averi ) if you are flying out of s-f-o this weekend.. expect delays. construction at san francisco international airport is continuing.... crews are in the process of repaving the second-largest runway at the airport. s-f-o had originally planned to hold off on the repaving because of the busy holiday... but crews say they've been falling behind and just couldn't afford to take the time off. the lake merritt bart station will be closed until tuesday. ( marty @ landing ) a 13-year-old boy is recovering this morning after he's rescued by his 18-year-old brother in a hayward house fire. and last night's rescue wasn't simple. the 18-year-old had to jump from a second story window of his home. he grabbed a ladder and used it to save his younger brother. the fire started in the living room on the first floor of the home on cherry way near western boulevard in hayward. no word on the cause of the fire. the 13-year-old is at the children's hospital in oakland this morning. ( marty ) from hayward to neighboring fremont... where 18 storage units burned in a three alarm fire. people's belongings destroyed from about in the fire that started around 8:45 last night. it's unclear how this one started... but this is just off 880 and fremont boulevard near the tesla plant. no one was hurt. ( marty ) the pilot of a small plane is forced to crash land onto a busy street in concord.this morning the pilot remains hospitalized. we understand that the the plane had mechancial problems that caused it to crash short of the runway. kron four's ella sogomonian has the details. (ella sogomonian)a single engine glastar plane headed back for the buchanan airfield airport missed the runway by a few hundred yards and instead crashed into a busy concord intersection. the pilot reportedly called in just before 2:45 in the afternoon to say there was an issue with the engine before smashing into a light post at marsh drive and solano way. sot:andrew nosanchuk, bystander//"i grew up in this area all my life pretty much and you see this happen maybe once i saw this 15 years ago and it happened right down a quarter of a mile off solano." concord police were overheard saying a weight distributor made its way several hundred feet shattering this window of a car for sale at the lithia dealership.sot:andrew nosanchuk, bystander//"he got lucky because he landed what? 15 feet from the dealership? he could have taken some cars out."no one but the pilot was hurt. robert marshall with the contra costa county fire department says the pilot was still breathing when crews pulled him out of the wreckage. sot: keith freitas, dircetor of airports contra costa county//" he was looking for a safe spot to put it down and appears he did a pretty good job of doing that. he was able to get out of the plane and no body on the ground was injured."the plot who hasn't been named yet was taken to john muir hospital.his current condition is unknown at this time. federal aviation administration records show the plane is registered to snagwood corporation out of brentwood owned by jeff klaus. we don't know if he was the pilot in this incident as the business hasn't responded to calls.the plane was hauled off after hazmat crews plugged a fuel leak then drained all the gasoline so it could be investigated by the faa and national transportation safety board. ( marty ) another big story we're tracking this morning: it was a chaotic scene at a construction site in oakland. more than a dozen employees injured as they fell into wet concrete: a witness shot this video of the aftermath. it shows construction workers huddled near the front entrance of an apartment parking garage under construction. by the time firefighters got to the building on hawthorne avenue, construction workers were using shovels and planks to prop themselves on top of the wet cement.. fire officials say the workers who fell were on the second floor of the building pouring cement when it suddenly collapsed. some were able to hang on to the scaffolding to avoid falling. at least 12- people were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. ( marty ) an antioch family is the target of what appears to be a hate crime. they are upset and confused, wondering why someone would trash their home while they were away and draw slurs on their wall. kron four's terisa estacio talked to the traumatized family. (estacio reporting) "they slashed all of our couches and had they upside down. this east bay mom who does not want to have her face on camera for fear of retaliation - talked with about how they came home the other day and found their house ransacked. "i was out for mother's day and came out to this." besides slashing the couches - the kitchen was a mess. "all of the cabinets were open, everyting was out on the counters and on the floor." and here on the wall, in their living room, a racial slur. "it was very hurtful." "my children are half black." "my son cried all night long" her daughters extremely upset as well. "they wanted to know why someone would do this." in addition, to all that, the televisions now broke were tossed around, as you can see in these pictures. "they are all broken now." the mom says they have lived in the area for four years and everyone gets along. for now, they are working with the police. "we know everyone around here, my kids play with all the kids in neighborhood." "i just hope they catch however did this." in the east bay, terisa estacio ( marty ) jurors deliberated in napa county superior court at the trial of a couple charged with the murder and torture of a 3-year-napa girl in 20-14. two separate juries are hearing evidence against sara krueger and ryan warner. they are charged with the death of krueger's daughter kayleigh slusher. prosecutors say, the crime happened at an apartment complex in napa in early 20-14. the couple faces 25 -years to life in prison, if convicted. a verdict has been reached in the trial for krueger but it has not yet been released to the public. warner's case is still being ( marty ) fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire at a warehouse pallet yard in stockton. strong winds thursday pushed into a nearby neightborhood and ended up damaging five homes. one woman was sent to the hospital with burn injuries. family pets were also lost in the fire. ( marty ) the massive landslide that has blocked off a portion of highway one in big sur isn't getting cleared anytime soon. caltrans says it will take about a year until the road is cleared. and the repair bill will be upwards of a million dollars. more than a million tons of rocks and dirt are clogging the scenic highway a week after tumbling down the hillside. officials say they hope to eventually open a one way road to get people through. ( marty ) a warning this morning for parents about a man who exposed himself near a palo alto school. we have the photo of the man police are looking for. this was taken near gunn high school. around 8:20 yesterday morning a security officer spotted the man exposing himself from campus. the man was sitting on a bike path bench across from the football field. but the man was gone by the time police arrived. ( marty ) san ramon valley high school has been in the spotlight recently.. it is over an issue that deals with what some say is free speech, but others say is discrimination. yesterday students staged a walkout during class because of it. kron4's spencer blake has details on the video behind the controversy. "the main quad on campus is empty now but during fifth period friday the district says about five hundred students left class and came here."(nats)students shared the videos they took with kron fourthough most of them were posting them straight to snapchat.though not part of curriculum, the walkout was not spur-of-the-moment. "students were planning on doing this for a couple days now."aside from the music and chanting, there were also some speakers who addressed more than just the issue of an islam terror-themed video.it was a fictional campaign production one student created to run for associated student body president.he was removed from his post as junior class president, but the district quickly reinstated him after threats of a lawsuit."they said it's not about the video at all. they said it's just toward the idea of racism in the district."one of the speakers says minorities and l-g-b-t students often feel marginalized, which is why she attended this week's school board meeting on the issue. "when the district says like, 'thanks for coming. thanks for saying it,' i dunno - i just feel like there's this wall up and i feel like our voices are bouncing off it."liz graswich, spokeswoman for san ramon valley unified school district, says board members couldn't respond to the comments made at the meeting because they weren't on the agenda.doing so would have violated the brown act."i understand that the district is in a really hard place and it can be super expensive to go through the lawsuits."the superintendent has been to the campus twice this weekand spoke with staff one time, and with student government leaders the other time. graswich says the talks about free speech went well.not everybody came to the courtyard friday.plenty of people still had work to get done before finals week."i think the whole thing is a little bit dramatic."in danville, spencer blake, kron four news. ( marty ) the washington post is reporting president trump's son-in-law jared kushner discussed creating a secret communications channel between the trump transition team and russian officials. the russian ambassador reportedly told supervisors in moscow that kushner suggested the proposal during a meeting at trump tower in december. kushner also allegedly suggested using russian diplomatic facilities in the united states for those communications. ( marty ) the manchester attack has people on edge all over the world... and here in the u-s...the head of the department of homeland security... has delivered a warning. the terror risk is as high as it was right after 9-11. homeland security secretary john kelly says the u-s is watching a number of threats right now. meanwhile, travelers flying to the united states from airports in 8 muslim majority countries are already under a laptop ban... which is expected to expand to more countries soon. ariana grande plans to return to manchester for a benefit concert. this comes after the deadly terror attack at her show earlier this week. the 23-year-old singer says she will raise money for the victims and their families. grande decided to put her "dangerous woman" concert tour on hold. the attack killed 22 people and injured 60 ( marty ) two people are dead after a racially- motivated attack aboard a light rail train in portland. it happened just after 4:30 yesterday. police say the suspect began shouting racist insults to two young women on the train, one of them was wearing a hijab. witnesses say three men came to their defense and that's when the suspect allegedly slashed their throats. two people were killed, the third injured. the suspect has been taken into custody. ( marty ) this morning a man who tried to stop a crime is recovering from being shot. it happened when he confronted a group of young people breaking into cars in a gilroy neighborhood. one person has been arrested. but, kron four's rob fladeboe reports -- two others are on the loose. gilroy police late friday afternoon were still searching for a gun here on hyde park drive after someone among a group of teenage boys opened fire on a resident just after 2 a.m friday.sgt. jason smith/gilroy police" a resident looks out the window and sees a group of people breaking into a car and he decides to go out and confront them and one guy pulls out a gun and and shoots him, striking him in the lower body..."neighbors rushed to the man's aid as police chased the suspects over fences and through backyards, eventually taking four peopleinto custody on nearby ervin court. rattled residents suspect the culprits are the same crew responsible for a recent rash of vehicle break-ins here, ron kirkish/resident"...cities up and down california are seeing an increase in property crimes, but this is the first shooting we've had, it's pretty upsetting..." sgt. jason smith/gilroypolice decided to take action. we encourage people to be a good witness but they shouldn't put themselves in danger like this. better to just call the police..."in gilroy rob fladeboe kron 4 news ( marty ) a bounce house was unplugged as toddlers were playing in it in florida. it quickly deflated and briefly trapped some of them as it came down. she says the family looked at surveillance video and noticed an unknown man in his 60s walking over to look at the party, standing by the fence for a few seconds. then he walks back and unplugs the bounce house, and walks back across the street. ( marty ) bart police have released surveillance photos of the man suspected of groping a woman on a bart train. this is a new image. investigators are hoping someone will recognize the man. the assault happened wednesday night between the richmond and north berkeley stations. when the train arrived in berkeley, the man ran off. ( marty ) a warning this morning for parents about a man who exposed himself near a palo alto school. we have the photo of the man police are looking for. this was taken near gunn high school. around 8:20 yesterday morning a security officer spotted the man exposing himself from campus. the man was sitting on a bike path bench across from the football field. but the man was gone by the time police arrived. ( marty ) san ramon valley high school has been in the spotlight recently.. it is over an issue that deals with what some say is free speech, but others say is discrimination. yesterday students staged a walkout during class because of it. kron4's spencer blake has details on the video behind the controversy. "the main quad on campus is empty now but during fifth period friday the district says about five hundred students left class and came here."(nats)students shared the videos they took with kron fourthough most of them were posting them straight to snapchat.though not part of curriculum, the walkout was not spur-of-the-moment. "students were planning on doing this for a couple days now."aside from the music and chanting, there were also some speakers who addressed more than just the issue of an islam terror-themed video.it was a fictional campaign production one student created to run for associated student body president.he was removed from his post as junior class president, but the district quickly reinstated him after threats of a lawsuit."they said it's not about the video at all. they said it's just toward the idea of racism in the district."one of the speakers says minorities and l-g-b-t students often feel marginalized, which is why she attended this week's school board meeting on the issue. "when the district says like, 'thanks for coming. thanks for saying it,' i dunno - i just feel like there's this wall up and i feel like our voices are bouncing off it."liz graswich, spokeswoman for san ramon valley unified school district, says board members couldn't respond to the comments made at the meeting because they weren't on the agenda.doing so would have violated the brown act."i understand that the district is in a really hard place and it can expensive to go through the lawsuits."the superintendent has been to the campus twice this weekand spoke with staff one time, and with student government leaders the other time. graswich says the talks about free speech went well.not everybody came to the courtyard friday.plenty of people still had work to get done before finals week."i think the whole thing is a little bit dramatic."in danville, spencer blake, kron four news. ( marty ) the washington post is reporting president trump's son-in-law jared kushner discussed creating a secret communications channel between the trump transition team and russian officials. the russian ambassador reportedly told supervisors in moscow that kushner suggested the proposal during a meeting at trump tower in december. kushner also allegedly suggested using russian diplomatic facilities in the united states for those communications. ( marty ) the manchester attack has people on edge all over the world... and here in the u-s...the head of the department of homeland security... has delivered a warning. the terror risk is as high as it was right after 9-11. homeland security secretary john kelly says the u-s is watching a number of threats right now. meanwhile, travelers flying to the united states from airports in 8 muslim majority countries are already under a laptop ban... which is expected to expand to more countries soon. ariana grande plans to return to manchester for a benefit concert. this comes after the deadly terror attack at her show earlier this week. the 23-year-old singer says she will raise money for the victims and their families. grande decided to put her "dangerous woman" concert tour on hold. the attack killed 22 people and injured 60 ( marty ) two people are dead after a racially- motivated attack aboard a light rail train in portland. it happened just after 4:30 yesterday. police say the suspect began shouting racist insults to two young women on the train, one of them was wearing a hijab. witnesses say three men came to their defense and that's when the suspect allegedly slashed their throats. two people were killed, the third injured. the suspect has been taken into custody. ( marty ) this morning a man who tried to stop a crime is recovering from being shot. it happened when he confronted a group of young people breaking into cars in a gilroy neighborhood. one person has been arrested. but, kron four's rob fladeboe reports -- two others are on the loose. gilroy police late friday afternoon were still searching for a gun here on hyde park drive after someone among a group of teenage boys opened fire on a resident just after 2 a.m friday.sgt. jason smith/gilroy police" a resident looks out the window and sees a group of people breaking into a car and he decides to go out and confront them and one guy pulls out a gun and and shoots him, striking him in the lower body..."neighbors rushed to the man's aid as police chased the suspects over fences and through backyards, eventually taking four peopleinto custody on nearby ervin court. rattled residents suspect the culprits are the same crew responsible for a recent rash of vehicle break-ins here, ron kirkish/resident"...cities up and down california are seeing an increase in property crimes, but this is the first shooting we've had, it's pretty upsetting..."samantha chavez/resident " it's kind of out of nowhere, we have all heard about the break in's but this is crazy. my roommates car was one of the cars they broke into..."one of the four detainees, all juveniles, was arrested. the otherswere released. two suspects, including the shooter, are still at large.the victim, shot twice in the leg, is out of surgery and stable. sgt. jason smith/gilroypolice" he was looking out for his neighbors and decided to take action. we encourage people to be a good witness but they shouldn't put themselves in danger like this. better to just call the police..."in gilroy rob fladeboe kron 4 news ( marty ) a bounce house was unplugged as toddlers were playing in it in florida. it quickly deflated and briefly trapped some of them as it came down. a woman who was there says the family looked at surveillance video. they noticed an unknown man in his 60s walking over to look at the party, standing by the fence for a few seconds. then he walks back and unplugs the bounce house, and walks back across the street.
