the season this year. there's been one flu fatality in san francisco, also one in sonoma county and two in san mateo county. while the flu shot is proving to only be 20% effective this year, doctors say it's still the best measure for protecting against the virus. and in other health news, the measles obvious is spreading -- outbreak is spreading with 68 confirmed cases here in california and nine here in the bay area. the cdc says there were more than 600 cases of measles reported last year, and that's a record high. it's skyrocketed because there are parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. elizabeth cohen reports. >> parents need to know what is being injected into their child. >> reporter: call it the jenny effect. >> without a doubt in my mind, i believe vaccinations triggered evan's autism. >> reporter: almost a decade ago, jenny mccarthy became a spokeswoman for the antivaccination movement, a movement that's only grown bigger, despite science showing over and over there's no link between autism and vaccines. in california, for example, a study out this week shows low rates of vaccination in san francisco and marin county, both wealthy areas. in southern california affluent areas in los angeles have had immunization rates that rival south sudan. >> when parents choose not to vaccine, other parents around them may have similar ideas and so what you get are pockets, groups of people who think the same and so you now have a cluster of children who are susceptible, all kind of living and playing together, going to similar schools, houses of worship and the like so if that bad germ get into that group, all of a sudden, you'll have an epidemic. >> reporter: so why don't parents believe the scientists? some of them are convinced the government is working with the pharmaceutical industry and just want to sell vaccines. >> i am more willing to take the chance of her getting one of the, you know, rare viruses or diseases than give her these side effects which a lot of the times is autism. >> reporter: the supposed link between autism and vaccines was -- his paper was dis credited and redacted from the british medical journal in 2011. even so, many believe wakefield was right, still believe the government is lying to americans and still refuse to vaccinate their children no matter what. coming up on kron4 news weekend, there are some cities in the bay area where it's getting easier to find a job. we will have that new data that shows you where after the break. what's hapned snaing? hodid bece sentindey eating o aft theext, aftethe xt? so erica. good morning. >> good morning, yeah, we have record highs on the way for today, but we also have some areas of dense fog, that's primarily in the north and east bay valleys. as for temperatures right now, most locations starting your sunday off in the 40s, 42 degrees in oakland right now, 44 in concord. san francisco, mild by comparison at 50 degrees, and a lot of folks probably heading to the beach later on today because it's going to be a warm one, especially along the coastline. keep in mind we have high surf advisory now extended until 3:00 this afternoon. waves between 10 and 12 feet expected at periods of 15 to 18 seconds so my best advice is never turn your back to the ocean, really just stay away from the water if you can but all in all, really nice weather reserved for the beaches today, mid-70s for places like half moon bay and if you're taking a day trip down to santa cruz, temperatures expected to climb into the 80s there. focusing on bay area numbers, in the south bay, plenty of 70s to go around here on the board. redwood city 73, 72 your high in mountain view, camel a high of 73 degrees. not as warm in the east bay. we have the tule fog and that's going to limit our heating and hamper the sunshine. fairfield only hitting a high in the mid-50s, richmond today 69, 72 for san leandro, downtown san francisco today in the upper 60s and we will see a high of 74 across the bay in oakland. we have the strong ridge of high pressure parked over the state right now, it's going to shift east as we head into next week and that's going to allow a weak system to perhaps bring a few rain drops as we head into monday night through early wednesday morning. temperatures will drop, we will see an increase in cloud cover but frankly we are only looking at a 10 to 20% chance for precipitation and then as we head into next weekend, lots of sunshine and temperatures start to warm. marty. >> thanks, erica. back to the news this morning, two f16 fighter jets escorted two passenger planes onto an atlanta airport after a bomb threat was made on twitter. military officials say the threats were credible. a southwest flight from milwaukee and a delta flight from portland, oregon were affected. both planes, however, managed to land safely. the atlanta bomb squad swept the area for explosives and also brought dogs onto the tarmac. the fbi is saying that passengers had to be interviewed and searched before being allowed to leave that restricted area. no explosives were found. new this morning, another attempt to raise the fuselage of the airasia flight 8501 out of the java sea failed again this morning. indonesian officials say some ropes snapped after the wreckage reached the surface of the water. a similar attempt also failed on saturday. meantime, one more body was recovered after it floated out of the wreckage on sunday. that brings the total number of bodies recovered to 70. the airasia flight went down in the java sea back on december 28th with 162 people on board. the deadline to pay the ransom for two japanese hostages being held by isis militants has come and gone and this morning we are learning more about the hostage takers' new demands. mary maloney has the details. >> reporter: four days after isis post a video of two japanese hostages demanding a $200 million ransom from the japanese government, a new demand has been made, posted online saturday the audio is accompanied by an image that appears to show one of the hostages, freelance journalist ken gee go tow holding the head of another captive. japanese prime minister reacted to the purported execution stating it was unforgivable and outrageous violence. i feel strong anger and firmly condemn it. prime minister abey demanded goto's immediate release. the person on the clip says the hostage takers would only release him in exchange for a woman held prison in jordan since 2005. earlier this week secretary of state john kerry joined a global coalition calling on the international community to work together and fight isis, which he refers to as dash. >> dash, as it is commonly known in the arab world is not simply a syrian problem, it's not an iraqi problem. dash is a global problem and it demands a coordinated comprehensive and enduring global response. >> reporter: the national security council's deputy spokesperson has also released a statement condemning isis. the united states is fully supportive of japan in this matter. we stand in solidarity with japan and are coordinating closely. the nsc also called for the immediate release of all remaining hostages. i'm mary maloney reporting. new this morning, president barack obama president obama and first lady michelle obama arrived in india for a two day visit. indian prime minister nor renda moghe greeted them on the tarmac and mr. obama later received a ceremonial welcome and also laid a wreath at the too many of -- tomb of nagate te munde. unemployment is down statewide and it is at a record low in the city of san francisco. california's unemployment rate dropped to 7% in december, that's down from a little over 8% recorded in december of 2013. mayor bay. when victoria stewart and her husband moved to oakland a little over a year ago, they didn't expect to find themselves rescuing dog but that's exactly what happened when they noticed their neighbor was rarely home to care for his pets. and now several months later the dogs have new families. kron4's jeff pierce tells us about their long journey home. >> hi, i'm victoria hair and this is the happy ending to my kron4 story. >> after victoria told her story about rescuing two distressed dogs named trouble and lulu she went to work to find homes for them using social media with the help of the organization people animal love support or pels, things began to come together for troubled lulu. >> lauren watkins from pels was able to set up a go fund me account to help with trouble's tumor. we had their first visits covered through the go fund me account as well as training with a great local trainer. >> reporter: trouble and lulu had their own facebook page and two families came forward to adopt the two now well known dogs. >> i came over, i checked out the dogs and i knew that lulu was our dog. >> reporter: rue map and her son and daughter welcomed lulu into their home. >> this is the first time my children have had a dog in the house and i tell you, our family feels complete. >> reporter: pinched marquez's -- richard marquez's children adore their dog trouble. >> i dogs find their forever homes. >> we got so lucky, they are both so happy, we really couldn't have asked for a better ending. >> reporter: in oakland, jeff pierce, kron4 news. >> they look happy. we though, if you're in the san joaquin valley there or headed there this morning, quite foggy this morning. here's a look at your forecast with erica. good morning. >> good morning. we are dealing with delta fog, pretty bad visibility for some of the inland valleys, and you can see some low clouds even here as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. worry not starting the morning off with the clear skies we saw yesterday. i think there is more cloud cover especially in the north day as we start off your sunday morning. as for temperatures, plenty of 40s right now, so grab a jacket if you're getting an early start. vallejo 42, 45 for downtown san francisco, livermore right now with 43 and looks like we are seeing low 40s even down in the south bay. into the afternoon, lot more sunshine expected, quick warming, most locations in the 60s by lunchtime and then 70s make their way into the forecast by 3:00 with the warmest temperatures reserved for the coast. we do have a high surf advisory in effect so be careful if you're heading to the beaches and it looks like a pretty big cooldown as we head into early next week with a possibility of some showers. >> thanks, erica. and weather officials are urging caution if you're heading to the coast. a high surf advisory is in effect this morning and continues until 3:00 this afternoon. the national weather service says waves could top 15 feet high and i saw them yesterday in the mosque beach, pacifica area and they were really strong. san francisco fire officials warn that the high surf advisory comes with rip currents and dangerous waves known as sneaker waves. continuing our weather coverage this morning, visitors from all over the bay area, including annie flocked to seaside beach towns like half moon bay to year better than they expected -- businesses starting out the year better than they expected. >> a lot of people bank money for these months because we know it's slow but it hasn't proven to be that way. >> and with more warm weather expected today, businesses again are hoping they will be just as busy as they were on saturday and some of them adding even more staff to work and hope the weather continues to bring more people to help out the local economy. in other news, the mother of this 22-year-old man with asperger's syndrome is suing target for the cause of her son's death in pasadena. robberies but police are looking into it along with a list of other violent crimes. on friday night, just before 10:30, investigators say the gunman walked into this restaurant on gary road, pointed a weather this morning. we are going to continue to see warm temperatures again today in some parts of the bay area but just a reminder, you might want to stay away from the water if you're headed to the beach because a high surf advisory is in effect for the bay area coastline this morning, will remain in effect until later on this afternoon. and here with the rundown of the weather is erica kato. hi, erica. >> good morning, marty. lots of sunshine expected for today, a little hazy out there. here's a live look at sfo. we are not tracking any delays on arriving flights because visibility isn't a factor but keep in mind we have yet another spare-the-air alert in effect for all of the bay area, no wood burning allowed. probably wasn't on your agenda because we are talking about record breaking highs later this afternoon, in fact, temperatures this weekend pretty on par with what we saw for the 4th of july weekend. right now cold start, temperatures in the 40s, fairfield 43, 41 up toward napa, but take a look at futurecast, we will start to see some 60s develop into the 9:00 hour, and then as we put the clock into motion, 70s on the board by 11:00, quick warming through much of the bay area and then looks like we will see plenty of 70s to go around by 3:00 this afternoon. yesterday we did break a record in oakland with a high of 72. i think we are on tap to break a couple of records later on today with temperatures even warmer than what we experienced yesterday. plenty of 70s across the board here in south bay, san jose 75, 74 toward milpitas. looks like we could see low 70s develop in redwood city and 75 in your high in campbell. though we are talking about warm conditions in the south bay, not necessarily the case in the east bay because of that tule fog heating really limited in these areas so we will see low 60s from concord and pittsburg, vallejo hitting a high of 71, 72 on tap for san leandro. downtown san francisco above average in the upper 60s, 71 across the bay in berkeley and if you're heading to the beach later on today, we will see upper 60s for ocean beach, daly city, half moon bay today hitting a high of 75. so beach weather definitely on tap. we are talking about high surf advisory for the coast. we have a ridge of high pressure parked over the state, it's going to shift east as we head into tomorrow, that's going to allow for a weak system to head in our direction. possibility of a few rain drops monday night through early wednesday morning, temperatures start to drop but looks like they are on the climb yet again as we head into next weekend. >> looking forward to that warmth, thank you, erica. another vehicle recalled this morning, kia motors america is recalling nearly 87,000 of its 2014 forte sedans because of faulty feel like we followed the rules of the game to the letter. >> meantime, the nfl continues to investigate why 11 of 12 footballs used by the patriots in last week's afc championship game were not properly inflated. coach belichick did not have any answers to that saturday but he explained how other conditions such as cold temperatures might have affected the pressure in the footballs. the way down here to the coast. many of them coming with cameras to get a picture of the big waves that we have seen all weekend long, although the waves we are seeing this morning are nothing compared to what we saw yesterday. but nonetheless that high surf advisory runs until 3:00 this afternoon and it runs along the coast from sonoma to monterey counties. weather officials warn waves could reach 15 feet high and there's always the possibility of rip current and sneaker waves that come up unexpectedly. however, the nice weather and big waves are bringing out many to admire the strong swales like one woman this morning who knows to keep her distance. >> but they are pretty close to and i'm not getting that close, i promised my husband i wouldn't. >> reporter: what concerns do you have about the high surf? >> going back out that way. >> reporter: getting sucked in? >> yep. >> yep. because people don't know about how to handle the water. >> reporter: and if you do get sucked out into the ocean, san francisco fire officials tell us stay calm, tread water and then swim parallel to the beach but really, erica, they recommend staying away from the water altogether this weekend. if not for that high surf advisory, it's pretty cold this time of year as well. erica. >> sounds good, thanks a lot. mike. and if you're taking a day trip down to santa cruz, lots of sunshine there, temperatures could actually climb into the low 80s. anny. >> thank you, erica. new this morning, a bicyclist is dead after being hit by a vehicle in sunnyvale. it happened at around 2:30 this morning on highway 85 the scene from our helicopter, partnership with abc 7 news. the accused driver is a 30-year- old woman from oakland. this morning we want to bring you a follow-up to that my kron4 story from the east bay. when victoria stewart and her husband moved to oakland a little over a year ago, they didn't expect to find themselves rescuing dogs but that's exactly what happened when they noticed that their neighborhood was barely home to care for his pets. well now several months later the dogs have new families. kron4's jeff pierce tells us about their long journey home. >> hi, i'm victoria hair and this is the happy ending to my kron4 story. >> reporter: after victoria told her story on kron4 about rescuing two depressed dogs named trouble and lulu, she went to work to find homes for them. using social media with the help of the organization people/animal love support or pels, things began to come together for trouble and lulu. >> lauren watkins from pels was able to set up a go fund me so we could have people donate money to help with trouble's tumor. we had it removed. we also had their first visits covered through that go fund me account as well as some training with a great local our dog. >> reporter: rue map and her son and daughter welcomed lulu into their home. >> this is actually the first time my children have had a dog in the house and i'll tell you, our family feels complete. >> reporter: richard marquez's children adore their dog trouble. >> i brought the kids down so they could see how trouble was with the kids and he loved the kids and the kids love him. they even sleep together. so it's crazy. >> a lot of people came forward, it was definitely a community effort. people from all over california and other states volunteered their time and their money to help us. >> there are so many unsung heroes just like victoria who are doing their part as neighbors, as friends to help these dogs find their forever homes. >> got so lucky, they are both so happy, over 20% effective this year, doctors say it's still the best measure to protect against the virus. in other health news, the measles outbreak is spreading with 68 confirmed cases in california and nine here in the bay area. the cdc says there were more than 600 cases of measles reported last year and that's a record high. it has skyrocketed because there are parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. elizabeth cohen reports. >> parents need to know what is being injected into their child. >> reporter: call it the jenny effect. >> without a doubt in my mind, i believe vaccinations triggered evan's autism. >> reporter: almost a decade ago actress jenny mccarthy became the spokeswoman for the antivaccination movement, a movement that's only grown stronger, finding support among liberal, well educated communities despite science showing over and over there's no link between autism and vaccines. in california, for example, a study out this week shows low rates of vaccination in san francisco and marin county, both wealthy areas. in southern california affluent areas in los angeles have had immunization rates that rival south sudan. >> when parents choose not to vaccinate, other parents around them may have similar ideas and so what you get are pockets, groups of people who think the same and so you now have a cluster of children who have susceptible, all kind of living and playing together going to similar schools, houses of worship and the like. so if that bad germ gets into that group, all of a sudden you'll have an epidemic. >> reporter: so why don't parents believe the scientists? some of them are convinced the government is working with the pharmaceutical industry and just want to sell vaccines. >> i am more willing to take the chance of her getting one of the, you know, rare viruses or diseases than give her the side effect of the vaccines which a lot of the times is autism. >> reporter: the supposed link between autism and vaccines was championed by andrew wakefield but his paper was dis credited and redacted from the british medical journal in 2011 but even so, many parents still believe wakefield was right, still believe the government is lying to americans and still refuse to vaccinate their children no matter what. still ahead on kron4 news- week-old, we have new -- news weekend, we have new data showing the bay area cities where temperatures for today. we have a high surf advisory if you're heading to the coastline that has been extended until 3:00 this afternoon. the concern is about rip currents, large breaker waves, waves expected between 10 to 12 feet for periods of 15 to 18 seconds, so that stretches from the sonoma county coastline all the way past santa cruz, so a lot of folks probably headed to the beach, keep in mind that you never want to turn your back to the ocean and you want to keep a close eye on the kids. as for right now, temperatures are in the 40s, we are going to work our way into the 70s later on today. yesterday we broke a record over in oakland, i think we will break a couple more records as we head into this afternoon. looks like fremont today hitting a high of 72, 75 on tap for campbell, redwood city, look at you, 73 for the afternoon, 74 expected in evergreen. temperatures this weekend actually very similar to what we encountered on the 4th of july. temperatures well above average. there, 72 degrees in san leandro, upper 60s on tap for downtown san francisco, and 74 across the bay in oakland. dry weather for the entire state, we have the strong ridge of high pressure in place, but it's going to shift east and then we are tracking a weak system that's approaching southern california that could bring some rain as far north as the central coast, but i don't think we will see too much in the bay area, perhaps just a few sprinkles, national weather service calling for a 10 to 20% chance so perhaps keep your umbrella handy in case. the rest of your extended forecast shows beach weather despite the high surf today. >> yeah, we have that high surf advisory in effect until 3:00 this afternoon so best advice is to never turn your back to the water and keep an eye on those kids if you're heading to the beach, temperatures expected to climb into the mid- 70s there. let's take a look now at temperatures around the bay area, cold start so you may actually need a jacket if you're getting an early start. 43 degrees currently in oakland, 45 out the door in concord, by comparison san francisco not too bad, we are at 51. we have a long way to go in terms of temperatures, later on today we will see widespread 70s on the board in the south bay, redwood city 73, take a look at mountain view, 72, sunnyvale hitting a high of 75. plenty of warm temperatures in the south bay, not so much in the east bay especially if you're in the shade, it's going to feel on the cooler side. we have tule fog right now and that's inhibiting sunshine. so fairfield today only in the mid-50s, low 60s out in antioch and pittsburg, richmond today flirting with the 70-degree mark, low 70s in both san leandro and hayward. downtown san francisco climbing into the upper 60s and 71 across the bay in oakland. we will break some records this afternoon. yesterday oakland broke an old record with a high of 72 degrees. take a look at how dry it is for the entire state, we have this strong ridge of high pressure in place, it's going to shift east as we head into tomorrow and that's going to allow for a weak system to perhaps bring us some precipitation. it's going to approach southern california, could bring some rain drops probably as far north as the central coast but still to be on the safe side, national weather service calling for a 10 to 20% chance but i have been studying the models and i don't think we will really see much rain at all. still just be on the alert monday night through wednesday, the chance for unsettled weather is there but beyond that, lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures into next weekend. marty. >> thank you, erica. the golden state warriors are the best story in the nba. the warriors have streaked out to a league best record of 35- 6, they have won a team record 18 straight games at home and joining me to talk about the warriors cinderella first half of the nba season, associated press radio network reporter ryan leong and welcome. what a story this is, we are talking about national coverage about the warriors and it's something that golden state fans have been waiting forever to see. how is this team doing it this year? >> they have been a complete team. from one through 12, of course they are led by stephan curry and guard clay thompson who of course had that incredible nba record third quarter scoring 37 points making all 13 of his shots. so those two guys lead the team but you've got great supporting characters as well and again as i mentioned, everybody on the team is contributing, even you have two all stars coming off the bench, andre eke dolea -- egudala and lee. that position has been turned over to draymon green and he's become the cheerleader of the team as well. >> they've done all this without andrew bogut for much of the season as well. >> exactly. andrew bogut is the anchor of -- he's the one center the warriors acquired by trading away monte ellis who at the time was the star of the team. >> right. >> and owner actually got booed heartly when they required chris mullins number. things changed quickly for the warriors. >> are they for real? >> i think so. the real challenge is going to be if they can beat teams like the spurs, the grizzlies and perhaps the oklahoma city thunder even though they have done well against the oklahoma thunder at home, they have lost in oklahoma city so that's the only place the warriors would struggle. >> they are a solid team, one through 12, everybody is getting into the act so they have depth unlike they have had before? >> actually, absolutely. maurice bates center coming off the bench, even got the brother of drew holliday, justin holliday. guy came out of nowhere and been productive. all the contributions they are getting, steve kerr his rookie year as coach has the team firing off cylinders. defensive approach first leading to their offense and they have been beating teams for an average well over 10 to 12 points a game. >> let's talk for a second that the impact that steve kerr has had on the team. rookie coach, never coached in the nba before but has an extensive nba background. what difference has he made? >> he's got everybody tricking whereas when mark jackson was coaching the team, everything was an isolation offense, he ran everything through stephan curry and clay thompson and david lee and too many minutes being used up by those guys. curry now is only playing about maybe 34, 35 minutes a bay, same for clay thompson. thompson's record night where he scored the 52 points, he did it in, i believe, 33 minutes which is amazing. >> amazing. >> just the balance and the fact that everybody is buying into it, everybody is having a good time, they are having fun together, there was actually an instagram video of the team on the plane singing a song, they had to quickly get rid of because it was sort of referencing drugs but this team is having so much fun. everything is going well for them. >> a lot more fun, obviously when you win and you win the way the golden state warriors are. seth curry has had a magic season so far. everything really seems to be yelling for him -- gelling for him. >> absolutely. and it's amazing to think he was the top vote getter, he beat out everybody including ron james. >> yes. >> and just a few years ago the warriors, you know, got their first all star in a very long time, david lee was voted into the all star game and before david lee's appearance, the last loss the warriors had was latrell sprewell in the early '90s. >> goes way back. >> the fact that the warriors all of a sudden have become the cinderella team not only in the nba but becoming the most popular team out there as well, and for curry to be the leading vote getter shows you how far the team has come. >> clay to many han had his record breaking night on friday. everyone is talking about his resurgence as a player and now they are talking about him as an all star. do you think he deserves it? >> absolutely. he stated his case there. unfortunately kobe bryant has a torn rotator cuff from a slam dunk he attempted and some people thought maybe james harden would replace him. i can't see how thompson doesn't get the nod especially when he's got his entire coaching staff -- the warriors have the best record in the west through february 1st. >> you mentioned mark jackson and steve kerr has been quick to acknowledge jackson's contributions that this team was no slouch last year, they are even better this year. >> absolutely. and it was difficult, there was that one game where jackson came back as an analyst for the cavaliers game and he had a very now famous quote where he says you did not disrespect the caterpillar and rave about the butterfly, referring to him and kerr. >> right. so it seems like both sides have been able to work through this situation, which was not pretty last year when they got rid of jackson. >> that's right, exactly. and, you know, again, just to see this team come up the way it has and again as i mentioned they are doing it in so many different ways but again with a defensive approach first, they swarm the ball like crazy and then when they are on offense, they have this motion offense where the ball is constantly being passed around and that just leads to more offense and again a balance of everybody contributing. >> one last question. do we see a championship in oakland? >> i would really like to see it. it would be great. basically there's been no championship in oakland since the oakland as beat the giants in 1989, so you know, the raiders had a chance in the super bowl in 2002 and the warriors, you know, in a way it's kind of -- it's bittersweet because they will be moving to san francisco in 2016 so i'm -- 2018,
