florist...and the inside looks even worse.investigators say this fire was started intentionally...and it might have been done by a homeless person.(pkg)monday afternoon there were still footsteps in the foam that put out the flames at the florist shop.the fire happened before the sun even came up.owner paula trotta got the phone call nobody wants."we came down here and we've lost everything."showing me the inside of her 62-year-old family business, trotta said she was devastated - not only for her financial loss, but because these types of fires aren't new in antioch."i know that there were four fires last night and i was told previously that they were trying to catch somebody doing it."in september, kron four showed you damage from some of the áeight fires that happened in just a two-day span.the fire marshal for contra costa fire protection district said those were all intentionally set,.trotta says investigators told her monday's fire...was set in this dumpster.rob strickland owns a mortuary that áwas about a block away from paula's family florist...that is until the same thing happened to him - twice!"they burned our building. they set a fire in the back and the fire went up the back wall and across the eaves and into the roof of the building."nobody got hurt in the flower shop fire, but the trotta family is still trying to figure out what to do next. "right now we're just trying - i mean this is the first day, so we're working out of my parents' house."all the while wondering why someone would have done this to their years of hard work.(looklive)trotta and her husband say firefighters put the flames out quickly, and though their ábusiness is gone, the actual building isn't a total loss. they ádo plan to rebuild here. in antioch, spencer blake, kron four news. (steve) a south bay suspected arsonist appears to have struck again. another suspicious fire was set over the weekend. bringing the total to at least twenty suspicious fires in the past two weeks. the most recent fire broke out along the i-680 offramp to capitol avenue around 1 a-m sunday. it's the latest in a series of fires believed to be intentionally set. several have occured in or near homeless camps.. c-h-p says they have not made any arrests but suspect there may be a connection between the fires and the camps. the fires have been relatively small. however the dry brush conditions create a potential for these fires to spread quickly. (pam) a big story we're following the first members of a n-t-s-b 'go=team' ... have arrived on the scene of that deadly amtrak crash in washington state. the train was making its first passenger run on a new rail line .... when it jumped off the tracks. the accident has closed interstate -five southbound indefinitely. (steve) here is where it happened ... a freeway overpass south of tacoma.at least three people on the train are known dead. more than 1=hundred people are being treated for injuries. (pam) as catherine heenan reports, there are plenty of witnesses, but as of yet, no indication of the cause. amtrak 501, emergency, emergency, emergency. we are on the ground! we felt a little bit of a jolt and then at a certain point the we could hear crumpling of the of the train car and we were catapulted into the seats in front of us.... the only thing that was left there was on the tracks was the rear locomotive.a total of twelve cars plus the lead engine jumped the tracks, some of the cars falling onto the busy freeway.drivers heading to work found themselves witnessses to tragedy. "you just knew when you saw that something horrible happened especially because it was a passenger train. you know there were cars on both sides of the bridge falling onto the freeway. they appeared to be ... it looks like a semi and a passenger truck that was underneath the whole front end smashed in. (pam) to san bruno=== where police are searching for a driver in a deadly hit and run crash.(steve) police first responded to a report of a person lying in the road on early sunday morning. it was on state highway 35 between college drive and sharp park road in san bruno. the victim died at the scene. and police discovered that they had been hit by a car.(pam) today police released a picture of a possible suspect car. this is a photo of what that car would look like. a 20-04 to 20-07 black saab 9-3. investigators say the car would have damage to the front passenger side..including damage to the bumper and passenger side mirror. (pam) in the east bay... mediators continue to work with the city of oakland and the worker's union to figure out a contract both sides can live with. the city has long said it can not pay out more than what is fisically prudent to balance the books. city workers say cost of living expenses and working conditions are at the heart of their issue. oakland representatives say they are optimistic about the mediation... but there are still some big unresolved issues. union reprsentive says they are committed ot the process... and don't want to go back on strike again. (felipe cuevas, president of the oakland chapter of seiu): "at this point, with the city we are bargaining using a mediator, so it's more or less a go between. they are in one room and we are in another. taking ideas and proposals between to each other." felipe cuevas says he is optimistic right now about getting a deal hammered out between the city of oakland and nearly three thousand city workers. ( pam) new tonight at 8. kron-4 viewers are reaching out to us about an ongoing package theft problem. dozens of neighbors have surveillance cameras set up...and cathing the thieves in action.(steve) but it's not producing results and the robberies have not slowed down.. it's happening in the cannery place neighborhood in hayward... this is on tilton drive near burbank street.(steve) neighbors told kron 4's gabe slate the police are not doing enough to stop the robberies. sound from mark marquis / packages stolen, hayward residentafter a constant rash of packages being stolen off their porches mark marquies and several of his neighbors in the cannery place neighborhood in hayward, installed home surveillance cameras to catch the thieves in action.this was one of the first robberies mark's camera caught broad daylight a person comes up to his porch and takes his package.. he happened to be home and tried to catch the person.nat sound videomark says their network of web cams is capturing three to five package thefts, or attempts, a week. mark says the victims here have reported these incidents to police but it keeps happening. and they claim they see the same people in their footage.. robbing them.sound from mark marquis / packages stolen, hayward residentmark has started an online petition on change dot org calling for more action from city officials and police..the hayward eyes is an online surveillance camera program that allows people to register their cameras with the police department and quickly share footage with them when they capture a crime going down or someone acting suspicious. police say getting the footage to them through this official online channel will help them investigate incidents quicker. in hayward gabe slate kron 4 news. (steve) a father and his six year old son died after strong currents swept them to their deaths on goat rock beach. 31-year-old omar hernandez and his son...axel medina died last night. they are both from santa rosa. coast guard officials y they were playing in the water when a big wave swept the child into the ocean. the father went after the boy...but also got caught in the waves. helicopter crews spent hours recovering the victims' bodies as family members watched. unfortunately, the father died at the beach... and the son died at the hospital. a second son was able to make it back to the beach. (pam) we now know the cause of death for san francisco mayor ed lee.... the medical examiner's office says, he died of a heart attack. he died last week at the age of 65 ... after collapsing at a safeway near his home. san franciso said its final goodbye to mayor lee yesterday. this was the scene at city hall during his public memorial service. speakers talked about how they admired mayor lee's efforts to make san francisco a safer city ... rather then just promoting himself. attendees got to hear from lee's daughters ... tania and brianna ... who say, they were deeply touched and moved by all the love and support expressed for their father... (pam) san francisco police are on the hunt for two men they say, robbed a man on twin peaks. it happened saturday around 5 p-m on twin peaks boulevard... authorities say, the victim was taking photographs when two men approached him from behind. police say, one suspect pulled out a knife and demanded the man's bag that had his camera equipment, cell phone and wallet. the robbers then ran off. this area has been the site of a number of other thefts. one incidnet that ended in death. police have not yet released a description of the suspects. (steve) another high ranking public official is facing sexual misconduct allegations ... this time ... a federal appeals court judge. judge alex kozinski of the ninth circuit court made the announcement today. a total of 15 women claimed kozinski made sexual comments or showed them pornography and in some cases kissed or groped them. most of the women were law clerks or student externs at the time at the time of the alleged misconduct. two were a professor and a judge when they claimed to have been touched or groped. kozinski released a statement apologizing. he was appointed to the court in 19- 85...and at the time was the youngest federal appeals court judge in the nation. now to our four zone forecast.... taking a live look outside at s-f-o. (pam) the san francisco s-p-c-a has pulled the plug on its security robot pilot program. the robot was being used to curb crime and vandalism ... associated with the numerous homeless encampments in the area. (pam) another big story we are tracking tonight... what the new republican tax bill actually means for you. (steve) the bill is expected to pass this week... with the president promising to sign it into law before christmas. grant lodes joins us to explain some of the big changes. (grant) one thing that's not chancing... the number of tax brackets...there are currently seven...and there are still seven with the new bill. the lowest earners will be taxed ten percent...the highest earners...taxed 37 perncet. but what's different...is the top bracket for the wealthiest people...drops from 39-point- six percent...down to 37 percent. and it will kick in at a lower level, starting at $600-thousand in income per married couple, instead of the current one million dollar mark. by the way, the reductions in personal income tax rates are temporary...set to expire in 2026...which is the case with most of the individual tax cuts in the bill. now to the the standard deduction...that's the amount of money that reduces the amount of income on which we're taxed... these two numbers are double what they used to be...so people will be taxed less. about 70 percent of americans use the standard deduction. - the new plan doubles the per-child tax credit to two thousand dollars for families making up to $400,000 a year. and lots more people will be eligible for this...right now...it's for families making just over 100- thousand. and there's the home mortgage interest deduction. the new plan limits the deduction... to interest paid on the first $750,000 of a new loan for a first or second home. the current limit is $1 million. this figures to have a negative impact for bay area folks...many of whom buy homes that cost more than 750- thousand dollars. the changes would not affect 20-17 taxes. and according to the nonpartisan joint committee on taxation....the changes will increase the country's deficits by an estimated $1.46 trillion over the next decade. decade.the next decade. (steve) flights have resumed after a sunday power outage brought atlanta's hartsfield-jackson international airport to a stand-still. there were more than 11-hundred flight cancellations on sunday alone. (steve)a growing number of people appear to be choosing uber...over an ambulance when they go to the emergency room. according to a working paper co-written by a university of kansas economist.....patients who are too sick to drive but not in critical need are requesting uber instead.data shows that data shows that ambulance usage rates have dropped by at least seven percent in cities where uber came on the scene between 20-13 and 20-15.according to the study, the likely reason people are turning to ridesharing....ambulance rides are really expensive.one ride to the e-r could cost hundred...even thousands of dollars.
