Up out of a sound sleep. Crews from emeryville, oakland, and Alameda County got the fire under acontrol by eight am, but the blackened crane reaching toward the sky is whats keeping them from getting the flames completely out. Those tens of thousands of pounds of metalcould potentially collapse. Thats the last thing we want to do is put firefighters at risk to extinguish fires inside of a building thats still under construction, so were not going to allow any firefighters to go in until that crane is secured. And that means road closures on san pablo, adeline, and other streets wont go away until that point either. Crews evacuated about 35 people from a separate, nearby complexbecause theyre in the potential collapse zone of the crane. They also cant go home until the crane is taken care of. My landlord called me at about 9 30 this morning, asked me do i know the building caught fire again . Someone set it on fire again . I couldnt believe it. I almost broke out in tears. He says again because in july of 2016, firefighers were at this exact site, fighting off a huge, sixalarm fire. Construction had resumed, but now the building is practically back at square one for a third time. I think its being set. Its just, it happens too fast. Ya know, it seems like its done professionally. Fire officials have not said this was arson, but its certainly something the atf will be looking into. Where firefighters are unable to determine the cause of the fire right away, its always prudent to have the arson investigators come out and have some fresh eyes. live a battalion chief tells me the Building Developer and other contractors are trying to find a vendor that can come in and secure the crane from both sides to get it stabilized and taken down. They dont know exaclty how long all of that will take. There is at least one crane truck that has arrived on scene here in the last couple of hours. Live in emeryville, spencer blake, kron four news. jrs a serial arsonist is behind bars tonight in the east bay. After police say he set more than 40 arson fires. More than seven of those happened just this week. Now the man accused of lighting the fires is being held on three point one Million Dollars bail. Kron4s jeff pierce tells us how Police Stopped the suspected serial arsonist in his tracks. The most recent incident Early Saturday Morning resulted in an arrest in neighboring solano counter. We have made an arrest in a series of vehicle fires that have occurred in recent weeks throughout contra cost county. A thirty six year old man was located in a residential area of benicia and as officers arrived the suspect appeared to have set a fire to a vehicle in a drive way. The rash of fires brought multiple Law Enforcement agencies together to address the large numbers of vehicle fires and they were present at the arrest. We assembled a task force because of the vehicle fires. Investigators from the contra costa das office, the california highway patrol, Lafayette Police department and the Concord Police department. The suspect, who authorities chose not to name at this time, is charged with forty three counts of arson in connection with the fires. Investigators found numerous similarities that led them to the suspect. There have been commonalities between all the fires that we know of that the suspect is currently being charged with and that was partially how we were able to locate a suspect. Were confident that he is responsible for the charges we are bringing against him. With more than three hundred vehicle fires in the county last year alone fire officials hope this arrest will dramatically reduce that number. Were relieved, were hoping that the fires will stop. There will continue to be vehicle fires we just hope that the rate of the vehicle fires will drop now that weve made an arrest. The suspect is being held on a bail of three Million Dollars.
