Science marches just like that one here in San Francisco were organized across the world. Andrew spencer show us some of the 600 events held today. From new york to los angeles, crowds gathered and marched all over the United States pressing back against legislators and policy makers that, they say, are ignoring facts and research. Organizers billed the marches as political but nonpartisan an effort to support science and evidencebased research. But for many demonstrators, its also a protest against the policies of President Donald Trump. Protester we have an american president disparaging the facts, denigrating science, and were here to tell him science matters. Speaking to a crowd in washington, science advocate bill nye said science must shape policy not just in the United States, but around the world. Bill nye ceo of the Planetary Society our lawmakers must know and accept that science serves every one of us every citizen of every nation and society. The marches have been worldwide, with demonstrators taking to the streets from sydney, australia, to geneva, switzerland. And from the arctic to the antarctic, researchers and scientists added their support to the cause. That attorney, harmeet dhillon, presented facts that she says blows the universitys story out of the water. Dhillon threatened a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of her clients, and uc berkeley released responded friday. The school claims it only learned of the plan to have ann coulter speak on campusfrom a newspaper article. But dhillon responded to athat statement saying she has email evidence that Berkeley College republicans, or bcr, notified the school of coulters probable appearance in midmarch. She also says they sent a confirmation email to the school on march 28th, saying the date would for sure be on april 27th. The University Says it tried to make that happen, but didnt have places available that would work well in light of threats made to the event. Now dhillon says the school and the city of berkeley had a closed door meeting at the beginning of marchand created a secret policy. theyre claiming that, oh we have this rule that prominent speakers, or publicized speakers, have a curfew, but others dont. Well thats not a standard thats defined, and its clearly not a standard thats equally applied. vo dhillon says its unfair that former mexican president vicente fox, for example, spoke on campus recently in the evening not during daytime hours, as the curfew policy would suggest. This is obviously getting stickier and stickier as things go on. State lawmakers held a town hall meeting today in San Francisco. State senator scott wiener and assemblymembe rs david chiu and phil ting attended. The event was held at mission high school. Dozens of people showed up to discuss californias role in the resistance to President Donald Trump and the new administration. Immigration, healthcare, and housing were all discussed. Lawmakers talked about their recent actions and those who attended voiced their concerns. In san jose, Philippe Djegal, kron four news. jr stone officers now say that a missing bay area teen may have recently been seen in pittsburg. 17yearold Kamryn Bresee is from brentwood. She was reported missing on wednesday night. Pittsburg police say someone may have spotted her at the Dollar Tree Store in pittsburg. Kamryns mother says her daughter is a type 1 diabetic who is dependent on insulin. She only has a small amout of insulin with her and has had past Mental Health issues. That mother says kamryn was last seen when someone picked her up from their home earlier this week.
