Reporter just before 2pm friday, one of barts brand new train cars overshot the end of a section of test track in hayward by several feet and crashed into a dirt pile. This is video of the accident from our helicopter partnership with abc 7. The accident apparently occurred while bart train operators were being familiarized with the new train system and the new train cars. Its unknown if the accident was the result of human error or some type of mechinal problem. Bart says that at the time of the accident the train was only travelling between 5 and 10 Miles Per Hour and that no one was injured. Its unclear exactly how many people were on board at the time or if the train suffered any damage. After the accident the car was still partially on the tracks and maintenance crews were able to pull it off the dirt pile. Each of barts new train cars costs about 2 million dollars. The first one was delivered earlier this month. Bart hopes to have ten of the new cars in service by the end of the year and 775 of the the new trains up and running within 5 years. We have no reason to believe, at this point, that this was a suicide. But again, this is early on in this investigation and well continue to investigate. Catherine his death shocked the music world.
