This woman was inside her home on skyline boulevard when the street came crashing down barely missing her house i was in my bedroom and i can the thump crashing down reporter you can see the resistant out of the ground with the tree blocking all lanes of traffic. It took hours for crews to get here to cut this thing that. Donna is hoping that the city will do something about the near falling tree. theres a tree there that needs to be taken down and has not been taken down and when it goes it will take all of this stuff out and will go completely across both lines. Reporter donna will be keeping a close eye on the streets as we continue into the evening luckily i can tell she was not injured when it came down her front yard. Also Power Outages and that area have changed with some people getting more power. Vicki downed trees were a problem all over the bay area today. This is a viewer picture of a fallen tree in los gatos. And another picture from a viewer of a tree that fell on top of cars in burlingame. Heres another photo from a kron 4 viewer of a downed tree on a home in oakland. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in any of these situations. Other downed trees and power lines also closed some bay area roads for some time. Lets take a look at current weather conditions now with brian van aken. Brian most of this strong winds can throw in the morning. But we have had some torrential rain and fierce winds this evening. The winds are up and over 50 mi. Per hour with this line showers as it came through. The showers came through very quickly moving at 50 m. P. H. And are now in the sierras. It is quite in the bay area right now but is expected to change tonight. There is another line of showers offshore here they are on storm tracker. They are moving northeast on 50 mi. Per hour. Theyre not as strong as what we had about an hourandahalf ago. But theres still strong. Gusty winds will continue and the wind advisory will continue through 10 00 p. M. We had winds over 50 mi. Per hour when at last storm came and. We had lots of rain for today from the second storm system. We have had about 2 in. Of rain and theres still more tonight and tomorrow vicki the storms this weekend have brought heavy rain and gusty winds throughout the bay area. About twothousand pgande personnel are dedicated to storm response and service restoration. Over 15hundred customers in the bay area are still without power. All San Francisco customers have had their power restored. But in the east bay, 40 are without power. In the north bay, 480. In the south bay, 530. And on the peninsula 570 customers still without power. The Santa Cruz Mountains often bear the brunt of storms. Todays downpour is no different. Kron fours dan rubin visited the cats restaurant and spoke with locals whove been affected by the rain. Reporter dan and dan rubin until recently, some parts of the San Lorenzo River couldve been described as a trickle. Now its a rush. Rain isnt the only thing coming down. Mud, dirt, and rock slides encroach on Redwood Gulch road. Earlier in the day, this roadway was blocked by a fallen tree. The same thing happened on highway nine before the tree was cleared. People who live in the area cant always wait. On rainy days like this, clay has to fight his way to work at the cats restaurnat on highway 17. Diners have storm related problems in common, back at home. when that rain comes into your garage is not a good thing. Dan rubin devin stopped in for a nightcap after the rain shortened his work day. we have rain meters and all of our dreams and a can shut down with too much rain dan rubin tough breaks. But two people who had worse days are the owners of these cars in burlingame. No one was hurt when the tree came down. But no one sounds like theyll be too sad when the rain goes away. Developing news out of San Francisco tonight in the investigation on the suitcase found with human body parts inside it last month. A close friend of the man arrested on suspicion of murder and later released because the District Attorneys Office cited a lack of evidence. Tells kron four that the man 59yearold mark andrus has died. Kron fours Philippe Djegal joins us live from the hall of justice in San Francisco with what we know. Philippe. Phillipe vicki. Mark andrus was taken into custody last week at his friend mark keevers apartment. And, tonight, keever told me that earlier today he learned his friend has passed away. He says it happened yesterday and believes andrus death is drug related. The last time kron fours cameras spotted mark andrus was early last week. When andrus is seen leaving the San Francisco county jail accompanied by his Attorney Public defender jeff adachi. This after San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon announced the murder charge against andrus was dropped due to a lack of evdience. That despite, police chief greg suhr saying there is surviellance video showing andrus in possession of the suitcase found last month with a headless human torso. Andrus attorney released a statement saying quote i am sorry to learn that mark andrus died saturday morning at San Francisco general hospital. The hospital, however, later released its own statement saying it quote cannot confirm. That person was not our patient this weekend. The Police Department says it cannot confirm andrus whereabouts. Stating only that he is a free man then refering any further inquires to the San Francisco medical examiners office. Andrus friend mark keever says the last time he saw andrus was friday. And, that he didnt noticed anything out of the orindary. We have reached out to the medical examiners office. But at this time, they are not confirming or denying that mark andrus has diead. Live in San Francisco, Philippe Djegal, kron four news. Vicki an overturned tanker that spilled fuel closed both directions of highway one near jenner in Sonoma County today. It happened shortly before eight30 this morning. Chp says multiple Hazardous Materials crews responded to the scene to clean up the fuel. Its unknown how much fuel spilled on the roadway. We will bring you updates on when the road will reopen on kron 4 news. Oakland Police Department investigators released a sketch of the person responsible for the Sexual Assault of a ten yearold boy that happened january 27th. This is the sketch of the man the child says lured him and sexually assaulted him. Oakland police say the boy describes the man as a hispanic male in his forties or fifties. Crime stoppers of oakland is offering a 75hundred dollar reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case. A twoalarm fire near oaklands San Antonio Park this morning displaced 14 people. One of the residents was treated for a cut from breaking a glass window and also for smoke inhalation. None of the other residents were hurt. The fire caused about 250 thousand dollars in property damage. The fire chief says the blaze was difficult to put out because the onestory building was on a hillside close to other homes. Investigators are looking into what caused the fire. Police are looking for a hit run driver from a fatal accident in bay point last night. A woman in her twenties was in a crosswalk at bailey and canal roads when the car struck her. She died at the scene. There is no indication on what type of car struck her or any persons of interest. Vicki police are investigating a car crash involving olympian bruce jenner that killed one person. The accident happened saturday afternoon on the Pacific Coast highway in malibu. As andy rose reports authorities opened a vehicular manslaughter investigation into the crash. Andy police say an olympic athlete and tv personality was an a car during a crash in malibu the kill him a sheriffs deputy says jenner voluntarily took a field sobriety test after the crash. Andy sources say of vehicular manslaughter case will focus on everyone in the cat crash not just of the olympic gold medal winner. Gender is currently on a reality tv show. Vicki the Los Angeles County sheriffs Department Says they will seek a search warrant to determine if jenner was texting at the time of the accident. Todays storm hit areas all over the bay area. For the most part morning rain was light. But there were times when it came down almost in sheets. While the wet weather may have kept most people inside. There were some who braved the rain. The worst of a wet and windy storm appears to be tapering off for parts of the bay area. Wind gusts of over 45 mph were reported earlier in the day with steady rainfall that dropped an additional two inches of rain in coastal areas. Showers are still out there just spotty until noon tomorrow. The National Weather service says this storm is moving through faster than a similar system that hit us on friday. And the passing storm has left damage in its wake. Plenty of downed trees. Some that came crashing thru homes. And flooded roadways. In the east bay soaked soil gave way and a tree toppled onto a car in the berkeley hills. One large tree came down at a condo complex in los gatos. The National Weather service has issued a wind advisory for the bay area in effect until 10 oclock tonight. The good news is that this storm is also bringing much needed snow up in the sierra. The person of interest in the discovery of a dismembered body in a suitcase has reportedly died. The San Francisco public defender says mark andrus who was arrested and then released in connection with the case died this morning at San Francisco general hospital. Authorities had to let andrus go last week, when they didnt have enough evidence to charge him. The case remains under investigation and authorities are asking anyone with information about the death to call the San Francisco Police Departments homicide unit. Brian williams is taking a break from the anchor chair he has occupied for more than ten years. Amid a growing controversy over his trustworthiness with facts. It comes after williams made on air apology for telling a false war story about his time in iraq. The apology is not silencing critics. Reporter and hes not the only one having trouble with the fine details. Rich krell, the pilot who said he was flying williams helicopter in iraq, now admits hes questioning his memory. Yesterday he told cnn williams chinook did come under small arms fire. Now, hes not so sure. Several other soldiers say krell was actually piloting a different helicopter in the area. Krell says his nightmares about the war are coming back and he just wants to forget. Perhaps the only one who can clear up the confusion is Brian Williams himself. In the mean time. Lester holt will fill in for williams. There has been no word on any long term changes. Vicki the exwife of a California Police officer accused of shooting and killing her former husband. Officer daniel green was found in his home in goshen on friday. Police went to his home after he failed to show up for work. Green had been on a threeday break so officials arent sure how long hed been dead before his body was discovered. On saturday, his exwife and the mother of his child Erika Sandoval was arrested. Greens coworkers say they are still reeling from the loss. as you would suspect a Small Department like ours is family. This hurts deeply. Were grieving right now. Were still all in a state of shock. Vicki detectives say green was arrested but never convicted of a Domestic Violence charge brought by sandoval several years ago. The the couple has been divorced for about two years. A pennsylvania teenager is charged with homicide and a firearms count in the shooting death of another teen. Authorities say the 16yearold also took a selfie with other teens body and sent it to a friend through social media. The mother of the boy who received the photo contacted police. Who then arrested the shooter. The District Attorney in the case says the photo was a key piece of evidence that led investigators to the teen. 17yearold Tarod Thornhill is in jail after police say he opened fire at a pennsylvania mall. The shooting happened last night. Police say thornhill meant to shoot one person, but two others were shot as well. He was arrested hours later after security video helped identify him. Shoppers were shaken. One woman says at first she didnt understand what was happening. i saw a lot of people running and that there is a lot of chaos. The please let us down until was safe for us, safe enough that they felt we could be protected. Vicki police say thornhills intended target is in critical condition. He is charged with aggravated assault, attempted homicide, and reckless endangerment. More bodies have been recovered from airasia flight 8501. Seven bodies were found in the java sea on friday and saturday. That brings the total number of bodies found to one hundred. Its believed one of the bodies recently recovered is that of the pilot. The bodies were taken to a hospital in the indonesian city of surabaya to begin the identification process. Meantime, divers will work again sunday to try to raise the fuselage of the plane, after several previous failed attempts. The airasia flight went down on december 28th with 162 people on board israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing pressure over an Upcoming Trip to the u s. Their engineering teacher kevin jones says its a case of the students coming to the rescue of the people who are there to keep them safe the places where the Security Guards use to be station got removed so they could build the new cafeteria and the guy is sitting out there in his car or in a stool right nowwe can build s building for himwth the Computer Program that they learned earlier haaziq this is part of the schools Engineering Design in a green environment program, which is certified by the National Academy foundation. The goal is to link aspects of engineering to the students daily lives yeah because i actually have worked a lot of construction with my dad and i actually enjoy it so i might actually be into that haaziq Antioch High School senior alexis kelly is among the growing number of female students that represent about of the 450 participants in the Engineering Program you will be able to drive by the school one day and say i had a hand in building that i think thats pretty cool although i hadnt really thought about that yet, make me feel good knowing that i am there is something that i am leaving behind that they can remember us by ive spent many years as a private Security Guard and i have never had said this could. It started with a complaint about a shoplifter, but it ended with an act of kindness. A kentucky Police Officer helped a suspected shoplifter after realizing the man was in a difficult situation. Garrett wymer has the story. Reporter he was called to confront a shoplifter at kroger, but for officer justin roby this wasnt a case to go by the book. as a Police Officer, you have to. Reporter roby says the suspect, a single father who had fallen on hard times, was caught stealing baby formula for his baby boy so roby bought him some with his own money. me citing him for court wouldnt have done any good for him. Hes already short on money, cant afford formula so me making him appear in court hes still not going to have any food for that baby. That his fellow officers do selfless acts such as changing tires every day, every shift even, it just doesnt always get seen. i think when they look at us they see just the uniform and just the car, just the tools that we have on our belt.
