as he is currently stuck in the snow. as we know with lower elevations, there is a lot of snow on the ground at the moment and it does cause this issue. so definitely the reason why, you know, when the camera i-80 at castle peak >> clouded up by all the snow on the lens there right now. and boy, it is just been really coming down and there's plenty more storms to come. here's the very latest on the doppler radar. you can see all that snow almost in the plaster ville, nancy grass valley. they're getting likely some snow. but then it gets very heavy as you make your way up in the high country. we'll see some very gusty winds to go along with that. something to watch out just issued today was an avalanche warning that continued until tomorrow morning. but i think they'll probably reissued that again as we head into the next couple of days here. we've series of storms. they're going impact the sierra nevada, not just the bay area, but a lot more heavy snow on the way. so winter storm warnings, our upper remain in effect till 4 o'clock in the morning on saturday already issued for the tahoe area as we get in towards sunday through about tuesday. that's when guess what, we're expecting another 3, maybe 7 feet of snow across the high country. how about that? it just keeps coming up there. right now. we're expecting a cold conditions. you might expect the snow. yes, not going anywhere anytime too soon. so if you're looking forward to getting up there, you might want to just wait a while. we've got more snow showers on saturday. another storm system bringing heavier snowfall and some gusty winds, maybe white out conditions on sunday. another storm on monday and another one after that on tuesday. after that, we may catch a little bit of a break, but more stormy getting up very early in the morning, watch out for that speed, especially some of the underpasses, some of the shaded areas. you may see that. and of course, you can slip and slide on that in a hurry. a 3rd sfo. we had numerous delays last night. and that's because all that stormy weather, but things cleared out now looking good at all. bay area airports, no problem getting in and out. if you are doing any of those things traveling around. but then the monterey bay, maybe couple scattered showers so early tomorrow morning. you see the areas shaded in blue. those are frost advisories up for tonight. very cold start to the morning into the 30's by the afternoon. still going to be chilly. only 40's and 50's southern california. right now they are getting pounded by a major storm system. heavy rainfall looking for the possibility. some flooding, of course, issues on the grapevine. do some travel there and all the snow on the blizzard conditions in the high country. if you're headed up in the high sierra nevada, well, be very, very careful. we've got snow. more of that on the way continues to fall there. now. and it looks like we've got a series of storms that will impact the bay area not only this weekend, but in the next week as well. all right. outside right now, what a beautiful evening out there, chris. clearing out your skies. we're getting ready for a very cold one outside. again, we've got for freezing temperatures probably back into the 20's. i think in some of the valleys all the way up into santa road to see the areas shaded in purple up near saline. i'm going to see those cold temperatures settling in the east bay as well. but all around, you can see some frost out there to early tomorrow morning with 20's and 30's to start today about 27 in santa rosa. 32 degrees in napa that 38 san francisco doesn't sound like much but we actually set a record for an overnight low in san francisco early on this morning. that one went back to the 18. 100's. we could break one if we drop a low of 38 degrees tonight, we could break one dating back to 18, 80. that of something yeah. it's not going to be a cold one unusually cold around the bay area. chilly temperatures already settling in numbers in the 40's in the 50's right now with your skies, clearing out. of course you got that cold air in place from the storm system. now these temperatures are going to fall off in a hurry overnight tonight. so that storm still not done with us yet. it's just rotating off the coastline. the main front is moving into southern california seed headed toward point conception, moving further south in los angeles. but we're going to see some more wrap around moisture. so don't be surprised. you might see a couple scattered showers overnight tonight. maybe winter storm pummeling california with snow up and down the state. rain and snow fell in parts of the bay area. snow seen in the oakland hills today and even in southern california, the snow us this snowstorm there shut down. i-5 at the great find. >> good evening. i'm ken wayne and i'm catherine heenan. we have team coverage on the winter storm tonight. kron four's gayle ong is live in boulder creek, where highway 17 reopened after a snowstorm closed down lanes there this morning. but first, let's get the latest from kron. 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. yeah, what an amazing storm .pit's been it's not unusual to get snow in the bay area. certainly that happens every several years or so. but the amounts were simply amazing. in fact, here's a look at some of the totals around the bay area peaks. how about this mount hamilton? >> over a foot of snow, los gatos. almost a foot of snow. calistoga. you had 9 inches there and get this in cloverdale. you've seen some video of that 6 inches of snow orinda 3 inches of snow canfield, an inch and a half and many people reporting around the bay area. they sell snowflakes falling in their neighborhoods may didn't stick, but certainly they saw the snow falling all the way down to about 500 feet even lower in some cases out there tonight, the skies
