Because children need to know whats behind all of this. Were going to go into the why. And then how do we help them to understand is part 2. And then part 3 is things that we can give them that they can do to help themselves cells feel safe. So first, the y is something ive looked at very, very deep. Late trauma is transmitted. We think is just a random acts of that. He is upset. They just act out. We know from research thats been done around the world now, the First Research an israel at the university of tel aviv violence. There. They were able to show to the 3rd generation trauma being passed from the holocaust all the way through impacting people. We have the same thing here with follow that happen for people of color, particularly africanamericans 4, 140 years of severe trauma. We still see that show up later. So we need to know there is something happening. Physiologically and theres a way to mitigate that to help that calm down. But lets talk about the children. Ill circle back, ok, when children experience any kind of violence . Remember for girls . The brain is managed to 24 for boys. 26, were talking about middle school children, high school children. Their brains are long way from being sentenced. So the aid they need help processing this. So the first thing is to sit down and just be with them emotionally. What are you feeling . Their 4 quadrants physically . They could have a stomach ache headache. They cant sleep. What are you feeling emotionally and parents . You have to model this for you have to say, wow, ive had trouble sleeping. Got ive had bad dreams. You know, im having a really hard time physically. My stomach turning my head hurts, physical, emotional and then mentally mentally, what are the there thinking . Are they thinking, oh, my god, that could have been me. Are they thinking . Well, thats my friend. Are they feeling angry about this . Sad about this for rosen about this. Sometimes grief in teenagers just is like a call how they cant get through it. They cant get it out. So we have to facilitate parents, teachers, grandparents, those who care about them who have complete brains. And the final thing is a squadron we call spiritual and spiritual means that they need something higher than themselves. Whatever your faith, whatever your belief, if you dont have a belief every Single Person can learn to meditate because meditation is medicine. It calms the brain. We dump all those neurotransmitters out of the brain that tend to recycle still be anxiety. The depression just keeps recycling over and over and over the last tool, you can teach people of any age but is especially helpful for children. If we tap right here in the breastbone, theres a little bland under that breastbone within 60 seconds. If you keep tapping it lets the heart relax. We begin to feel a little calmer children need these kinds of tools that they can use. They can tap on the herd, feel calmer and then they need something they can say to themselves. And this is an affirmation. Right. What ever i do. I worthy and deserving person and i will do my best to keep myself and others safe. My parents and the adults around me. Well, help me. So as sad as it is out of this, maybe we need to also look at one other thing. Guys, you have to forgive me. Weve got to look at the billions of dollars that are netted by the gun industry. There is no reason for children to be able to get their hands and got its website, which a lot of us and the argument is certainly is it the guns fault . Is it mental . You know, health, what . What do you what do you address . First . And obviously its not just one simple thing im doctor wade. It seems that. Violence is theres an uptake in it and people acting out. Whats behind this . Some of this uptick is because of covid. We dont have our usual ways of being there for each other for taking care of ourselves for making sure that were monitoring a lot of schools. Dont allow parents to come in anymore because of the risk of covid infection. I understand all of that. But we need to make up for that deficit by being cognizant 8 children need those emotional contacts they need to see adults were familiar to them in the school and for goodness sake, parents need a way to make sure their children are safe and to keep them safe. So theyre just so many complex issues here. But at the core, the core of it is we have to face some very hard truths. One is weve got to address the sale of guns and the way that kids can access them. We must do that or we just have our heads in the sand. We dont need to have more of these conversations. We all know that the second thing is children who are under stress who have themselves experienced trauma or adults who are traumatized are more likely to commit these acts of violence. Those who have been treated in a violent way or more likely to act in a violent so these are learned behaviors. People dont just wake up one day and decide to be violent. At what age can parents Start Talking to their kids about things like this . They werent directly affected, but the kids might know its happening. What . What is a reasonable age . You know, i think children who have been directly affected of any age made waves there. To deal with feelings of their very young. Then they need a teddy bear to cuddle. They need parents to say no matter what, youre going to be safe, a lot of parents have said to me when im working in training, people, theyll say, oh, but i have to tell the truth. No, you dont need to tell a very young child. The socalled truth. You tell them, ill keep you safe because when Young Children road with severe anxiety and theyre more likely to develop anxiety and depression all sorts of Mental Health issues. So we just keep them safe because they cant process children were older, 13 up. Theyre starting to get a higher cortex. Now you can begin to talk to them about how you keep yourself safe and the feelings you have give them that to where they can tap. Toddlers can also use the tap in Young Children can use tapping very valuable doctor. Way so much valuable information. I do want to see if we can slip this in. If you can answer briefly. Our job is to protect children and certainly in schools now with active shooters. We give them those drills. That itself creates a level of anxiety for for children. Yes, it whats the solution . The solution is to, depending again on the age of the children, we have to do with age appropriate with their brains can tolerate very young. Were doing everything we can to make sure youre safe in school. And we will always protect us. You dont have to worry. Thats as much as a young child can process is a hit middle school and older. You say these are the things you need to do. Were going to teach you how to be safe. And if you think somebody is in trouble or theyre depressed or angry or dangerous or something has happened to that person, please tell us because children do that code of silence. We dont want to tell another people counting on other people could be a weight. You save yourself or someone else.
