right. well, the time is now 04:38am. here on a very nice friday. >> and hopefully you are. i'm thinking about maybe what you want to do this weekend. he sure have a whole lot of options on their lot of people that have been reaching out to me that are coming into town from other places. and a lot of them want to know what the weather is going to be like. so they can plan their prime weekend, whatever they're doing. no good luck. getting a hotel where was in town, the senate and that early. it's going to be busy from the warriors to pride. it has definitely been. >> a week that feels a little bit more like san francisco did a couple years ago. busy, busy, we are seeing out there some low grade. that fog is settling right into the bay this morning. >> from the golden gate on into the bay itself, watch for some pockets out there where visibility has dropped below a mile. that includes the coast bay shore all the way to the south bay on into the carquinez in across the north bay to this fog. when you see it is more dense than it was yesterday. now, as far as temperatures go right now, we're in the 40's at the coast and in parts of the north bay, the bottle in petaluma really chilly this morning at 48 degrees. compare that to brentwood at 70 conquered in dublin at 64. some of us more mild than others. as for skies. once the fog burns off, we're in for a nice and sunny day and for inland areas still warm. one highs in the 90's inland 80's by the bay 60's out towards the coast. rain. >> you for that, right. let's get a look at your bridges this morning about a 10 minute drive to make it from the base that fremont street exit across the bay bridge as you're heading into the state, the san mateo bridge, a 80 to one o one just under 13 minutes for you on this friday morning. let's head over. look at the richmond. sandra fell commute still pretty light. 9 minutes for you here. and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the told you have that dense fog. take your time. drive slow, use those low beams. no need to be in a rush. still 20 minutes on your commute. but again, you want to drive slower. well, water main break left several blocks in the city of concord under water. but as kron forcefully jabar report, it took almost 6 hours to find and shut off that broken pipe. >> trash and debris power washed off monument boulevard and thursday afternoon. once the river of water that flowed on talk overnight drained off or was pumped out by the contra costa water district. >> this after a pipe, 8 inches in diameter broke underground that read it dry. i would consider this this on the larger side of break. >> water district spokesperson jennifer allen says crews were sent to the scene at 12:30am in the morning but could not identify and close off the valves to the broken pipe. >> until around 6 in the morning to the severe flooding. there is no estimate as to how much water in the streets, but it's safe to say thousands of gallons of treated water were last seen any water loss. and when we're in a drought is very frustrating. >> this comes as the water district has asked customers to reduce water use by 15% compared to what was used in 2020, a temporary 15% drought surcharge, encouraging conservation. >> also goes into effect next week. we manage about 900 miles of pipes within are treated water service area. so that's a lot of height to be making sure is and is in good shape. >> failed pipe was installed in the 1960's and it's unclear why it broke. the water district says it will investigate the issue and other pipes nearby. no major damage was reported for businesses in the area were still without water through the early afternoon. >> in concord, police to call kron 4 news. >> well, for your money, state law enforcement officers as well as public safety workers will soon get pandemic bonuses according to an agreement between governor newsom and the unions. each employee including chp officers, state correctional officers and park rangers will get $1500 bonuses about 42,000 state. public safety workers are eligible for those bonuses. the federal government is canceling about 6 billion dollars in student loan debt. the move affects around 200,000 people who attended for-profit schools like the corinthian colleges or itt technical institute and other similar trade schools and who had applied for loan cancellations. a class action lawsuit was filed against the department of education in 2019 saying the department had ignored all those applications. the student loan cancellation is the result of a settlement in that lawsuit. toyota is recalling its newest electrical vehicle less than 2 months after it was released. the automaker says bolts on the will of the 2023 bz 4 x electric crossover suv can loosen on driving because the will to detach. but toyota is warning owners around the world not to drive their vehicles until that problem is fixed. the company's urging people to contact their local dealers. we'll pick up the vehicle and provide a free loaner. toyota is still investigating the cause of the bolts. most recent january 6 committee hearing focused on the pressure campaign by the trump white house aimed at the department of justice. they say it was designed to overturn the 2020 election result. washington correspondent basil john reports on the details from the hearing. >> if justice department had not done. >> enough during the 5th hearing of the january 6th committee, former top doj officials told the panel former president donald trump pushed them to overturn the election. >> it was a brazen attempt. to use the justice department to advance the president's personal political agenda. former deputy attorney general richard donoghue. >> so the department of justice looked at the president's claims of election fraud or any of the allegations he brought up. >> found credible. did you find any of them credible? >> donahue and former acting attorney general jeffrey rosen told the former president they couldn't change the election results. how did the president respond to that, sir? >> he responded very quickly and said essentially that's not what i'm asking. you do. well, i'm just asking you do is just say it was corrupt and leave the rest to me in the republican congressman, both top officials said the president wanted someone in charge at the doj who would do what he wanted. but neither donahue or rosen would go along with his wishes. united states justice department functions on facts, evidence and law and those are not going to change. so you can have whatever leadership you want, but the department's position is not going change. evidence also shows there was an effort by pennsylvania republican congressman scott perry to get a new attorney general in position before january 6 to january. 6th hearings will resume after summer recess. >> reporting in washington. i'm basil, john. >> for your health, the food and drug administration is ordering jewel to pull its e-cigarettes from the u.s. market. the company's widely blamed for sparking a surge in teen vaping. the fda says juul must stop selling its vaping devices as well as its tobacco and menthol flavors cartridges that consumers are not restricted from having or using juul products. the agency says jules research included, insufficient and conflicting data about potentially harmful chemicals leaching from the cartridges? well, we talked to a smoke shop owner and she told us the decision is not fair for the business and it could potentially force the store to close down. >> at this point, i would say it's about at least 25% of our business so and that's a pretty big child. >> joel said it disagrees with the fda's decision and will seek to put the ban on hold while it considers its options, including a possible appeal. meanwhile, the american lung association called the fda's decision long overdue. san francisco has a new facility. it is to deal with the city's drug crisis. it's called a drug sobering center. it's located in the south of market neighborhood on howard street center is an attempt to respond to the many complaints about drug use on city streets. well, the former office building has been leased by the city. we all know san francisco as an ongoing crisis with overdoses with open drug use, including meth and fentanyl. but as of monday, this might help. it's a place where people can walk in and have a place to rest and ride out a high. there are showers or beds chairs, even food. there will be counselors to connect drug users to treatment and housing support. it's all voluntary. people are reportedly and will not be allowed to use drugs inside the center. the city already has something similar to do with alcohol problems. but this is a first. >> but this is the one and only program in the city's helping people to sober up from drugs. we have lots drug prices on the street and it's safer to come inside facility like this to be on the street. it's safer for those. are intoxicated, as well as the neighborhood who are witnessing having drug intoxication. >> well, there are 20 beds and although account in 2019, so there are roughly 4,000 people in san francisco dealing with drug problems, mental illness and homelessness. this is an 18 month on ul pilot program or our pilot progsam which could be expanded later after that. only about a week ago. the decision was made to close another facility at the end of the year. a drop-in center to connect people to services in the un plaza. 50 years ago, the supreme court gave women the right to have an abortion that could change. the supreme court is expected to rule on its future at any moment. kron four's justine waltman has a look at how roe v wade came to be. >> in january 1973, the supreme court ruled the united states constitution protects a woman's right to an abortion. the case was brought by norma mccorvey jane roe, who in 1969 was pregnant with her 3rd child. she wanted an abortion but lived in texas where abortion was illegal. her attorneys filed a lawsuit against her district attorney henry wade alleging the texas abortion laws were unconstitutional. the case went to the supreme court where the justices ruled in her favor 7 to antiabortion politicians and activists have sought for decades to overrule that decision. what is before the court now? dobbs first jackson women's health organization. the case centers around a mississippi law that would ban most abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy. in may of 2022. a leaked draft majority opinion penned by justice samuel alito hinted the court is prepared to overturn roe with its final decision on dobbs versus jackson. the release of a draft opinion for a pending case is pride parade. >> looking good. but we do have some fog during those morning hours at times much like we do this bay bridge is looking. all right. as far as fog goes, you can see the bridge. they're on the american flag, the pride flag right below it. both of them says wait around that cool sea breeze that is pushing through the golden gate into the bay this morning offering us that nice and much-needed cool down from the heat for coastal in bayshore cities inland areas. well, you still got your 90's south bay. you're still in the 90's as well. fog this morning in parts of the bay, including all the way down to the south bay at times north bay and coastal areas. also seeing patches of dense fog where you run into it. it is very dense. so keep it a little bit slower. give yourself that extra room between the person in front of you and yourself on into tomorrow morning. more fog to start the morning and will actually see that on into sunday morning, too. now each afternoon offers beautiful sunshine and for san francisco. that means this afternoon tomorrow afternoon and sunday afternoon for the parade. all of it looks wonderful and comfortable. just got to be ready for some fog during morning hours. as for temperatures today, sf will be in the 60's and 70's 60's right up the coastline and a pretty wide range of numbers along the bayshore brisbane to millbrae in the 70's. well, you get down towards redwood city woodside in mountain view and you're talking low 90's much the same in the south bay with some low 90's for your daytime highs there today, free might union city and hayward in the 80's crossover. the snow great into the tri valley and you'll be looking at 90's, as you will, as well from danville, walnut creek, up to concord, oakland, berkeley and richmond. you'll be in the 70's this afternoon and you can't shake that 98, but we will be looking at a cooler one towards next week, especially this weekend. pretty steady at this point forward. 90's remain inland. upper 70's to low 80's for most of our bayshore cities, coastal areas consistently in the 60's. look at that inland cooldown into next week from stently seen to
