(justine) another big story tonight.... a man violently attacked just outside of the richmond bart station... leaving him bloodied and bruised... tonight he is speaking out about the attack...(jr stone) it happened thursday morning right in front of the mayor of richmond... where he was shocked that he could not find ant bart police or officials to help the man... kron's spencer blake spoke to the victim who tells us more needs to be done to prevent this from happening to someone else... "no bart security. no bart attendant there. nobody."in some ways, landon sims felt alone thuzrsday morning when he was beaten unconscious by a group of teenagers.his face is so messed up he's been wearing sunglasses since the attack. but even though witnesses couldn't get immediate help from bart officers or employees, several of them did what they could to help."only person that came was two ladies that came to my rescue." mayor tom butt happened to be there, and called 9-1-1."if the mayor didn't see that then it probably wouldn't be a big thing it would just be another statistic of something happening like that so i'm glad the mayor has seen what really goes on in richmond." since the attack, the mayor has called for bart security at every station at all times. sims himself wants to see áreal changes at the station. until then, he doesn't plan on coming back.bart police say the attack was in richmond p- d's jurisdiction, even though sims was right under the richmond sign at the bart station. a group of kids surrounded sims, tripped him, and started kicking his head. strangely, they didn't steal so much as a penny - they just went into attack mode. "my first thought was actually to get even but i have a bigger situation to think about and that's my family."andit was his family who told him what had happened when he woke up in the hospital.the emotional pain and confusion for sims are on the same level as the pain he feels in his battered face."when my daughter said like, 'oh, daddy what happened to your face?' and i had to explain to her what happened, that like killed me."with stitches in his eyebrow, sims will be staying home from work for several days as he lets his bruises and swelling heal. in richmond, spencer blake, kron four news. (justine) tonight more crimes at bart stations all over the bay area... just today bart police reported three crimes... the latest one happening just before two this afternoon at the civic center bart station... a witness reported seeing a man hit another man in the face... police are still looking for the suspect... the victim was taken to the hospital and treated. then just before noon a catalytic converter was stolen from a car parked at the dublin/pleasanton station... and at the concord station a man was arrested and taken to jail for jumping over the gates and not paying a fare... (jr stone) tonight hundreds of firefighters are still near yosemite national park fighting the detwiler fire. those living in the city of mariposa were able to go back to their homes yesterday. this is what some of the damage looks like. several other areas were reopened to evacuees today. so far more than 75-thousand acres have burned. the fire is now 30 perecent contained but 60 homes have burned. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. close to 45- hundred firefighters have faught these flames since the fire started last sunday. right now a meeting is being held at mariposa high school to update evacuees on the situation. the cause of the fire has not yet been released. (phillippe) in palo alto... the santa clara county medical examiner-coroner's office says 71-year-old actor john heard died in a hotel wednesday. he made more than 170 appearances on stage and in film... most notably as peter mccallister in the box office hits "home alone" and "home alone two: lost in new york." tmz reports he recently had "minor back surgery" at stanford medical center and stayed in the hotel during recovery. the medical examiner-coroner's office says there is no evidence of foul play. in palo alto, philippe djegal, kron four news. (justine) there will no longer be sandboxes at parks in san francisco all new playgrounds will look similar to mountain lake park in the presidio... which just reopened last month without any sand. and instead has rubber turf... rec and park tells us the decision to eliminate sandboxes came because sand requires frequent cleaning. which is a challenge for the department... it keeps finding broken glass, sharp objects or even cat feces... in the sand... which is not safe.
