it almost made me late for work, but i worked it out. >> phillipe :there's worry this situation may go on longer than anyone cares to admit. >> : i don't know if i can deal with it. >> phillipe :bart says 50 train cars have been damaged by power surges in north concord. the third rail on the tracks between the two stations in question appears to be emitting twice the amount of power than it should. more energy than the car's can handle, causing an overload. >> : imagine plugging your 110 volt hair dryer into a 220 outlet, that's what's happening. >> phillipe :bart says the surges are damaging these electronic switches on the cars called thyristers. and, the cars can't run without them. problem is -- bart says it typically takes 22 weeks to replace them. engineers are reaching out to manufacturers that could possibly provide a quicker fix. all, while still trying to figure out what caused the power spike in the first place. >> : we;ve narrowed it down to an area. we are testing and troubleshooting. we're moving in and out different power configurations, and doing a lot of inspection work. >> : there's nothing i can do about it -- it's beyond my control. so, just roll with the punches -- that's it. >> : if this continues into next week, uh, it's really going to wear on my patience. >> phillipe :bart says pg&e is also involved in this investigation. experts are flying in to help fix this mysterious problem. live in concord, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> pam :commuter chaos started early this morning. for the many bart riders forced to use a bus bridge between the north concord and pittsburh- bay point stations. kron four got on the bus with riders. to find out they were coping with the situation. the bus ride between two stations was longer. and waiting on lines for each bus to fill up. only added to the frustration. >>:we need extra time so we could do all of this so we plan an extra hour to get over here so hopefully i can get to work by 12:00 >>:i thought they did a good job of keeping a safe and they gave us this shuttle and accommodated us swarthout was cool--so i thought that was cool >> pam :riders we talked to said they will allocate more time on friday to take the bus bridge. as you heard, the slowdown could go on for sometime. so what do bart's elected board of directors have to say about what's happening ? kron 4's dan kerman caught up with one of them. zakhary mallett. >>:we are an old system and would have an old system that is crumbling we're sensitive to these sorts of instances that is just the reality that we face today >> dan :mallett says, that is now changing. >>:we are needing to locally invest in maintenance and we are most likely going to ask the public's help >> pam :but for now , bart riders will have to endure trains with less capacity. until the damaged cars can be brought back on line. when asked by kerman , about giving refunds or discounts because of the inconveniences. mallett said, he sympathizes. but added : "when airlines are late. you don't get a refund or discount." and there are more bart closures coming. next weekend. on march 26th and 27th, there will be no train service between the san leandro and bay fair stations. bart will provide a bus bridge between both stations on those days. bart says, crews will be conducting repairs to that stretch of track. that work is expected to last allegedly having sexual relationships with two students. kron-4's jeff bush has that story. from mount pleasant high school in san jose. >> jeff :san jose police arrested 21 year old enoch garcia last month and charged him with several counts of lewd acts with minors and having sex with minors. police were tipped off by a school employee who works at mount pleasant high schoolthe same school where garcia was employeed as an assistant coach for the boys and girls track teams. police say the concerned employee suspected that garcia was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student at the school. upon further investigation, police determined there was enough evidence to arrest garcia. detectives determined that garcia was involved with a 14 year old girl and a 17 year old girl who are both go to mount pleasant. the eastside high school district says that garcia worked at the school for about three years and was terminated when he was arrested. jessica santana has a teenage daughter and says she is shocked to hear the news of the arrest. >> jessica santana : i would be upset. i would be very upset and i would call the cops to make sure that he goes to jail for that. jeff >> jeff :garcia was booked into the santa clara county jail. his bail is set at $200,000. i'm jeff bush in san jose, kron four news. >> pam :police are searching for the suspect behind a deadly caée shooting in east san jose. it happened last friday night. at bon mua café. along tully road. officials say the suspect went inside the business. fired multiple shots and then left the scene. police have identified the victim as 43- year-old brian le. he was transported to the hospital where he later died. the other shooting victim is in stable condition. police have not yet identified the suspect. police in the east bay found the remains of a 90-year-old el cerrito woman in a trash barrel. at the home where she had lived. but now they still need to find out who killed her. officials have confirmed. the remains were of mary osbin. and she died of a gunshot wound. she was last seen at her house at leneve place last august. an arrest warrant has been issued for her adoptive daughter. alicia osbin. investigators now believe she is in the los angeles area.and may be dressing in men's clothes. they say, she is considered armed and dangerous. busted windshields. scores of vehicles have been targeted by vandals in the city of san leandro. tonight. investigators are hoping this surveillance video. will generate tips that lead to the arrest of the person committing these crimes. it shows a vehicle coming to a stop in front of a house. a man emerges holding, what police say, is a b-b-gun. he fires at the windows of vehicles parked in the driveway. then drives off. police say, this has been an ongoing problem dating back to december of 2015. the recent el-nino storms have resulted in an untold numnber of potholes all around the bay area. san jose's pothole repair crews have a new tool. a high-tech 'spray injection truck. crews have filled some 28-hundred potholes since january first. a spokesman for the department of transportation says. the number of calls for pothole repairs is currently double what is considered normal. the problem. of course. is all the storm- driven rainwater >>:when the heavy trucks go over it it will crack it further when the traffic hits it it will cause further cracks to appear and form >> pam :high traffic roads and freeways are seeing the most potholes. san jose's standard is to have a crew on scene within two days of receiving a complaint. six months after the devastating valley wildfires ripped across lake county. middletown is still recovering. some homes are being re-built. while many lots are still vacant. more than 500 homes. and hundreds of other structures were engulfed in the 70- thousand acre inferno. property owners are back at square one. and now faced with the decision of whether they should
