7 news. according to police.two men set out for a kayacking trip this afternoon from nick's cove. but ended up in a treacherous rocky area near dillon beach. witnesses reported the kayakers hit the rocks around 4:30 this afternoon. wave runners and boats searched the waters. they found one kayaker.a 55 year old man from sonoma county.dead in the water.and transported him to shore. paramedics treated the other man at scene.and he was then released. caught in the act -- and caught on camera. burglars in antioch. stopped in their tracks -- after a neighbor reports suspicious activity at a home -- just in the nick of time. today, two men were placed under arrest -- all thanks to some alert neighbors. as kron four's philippe djegal shows us -- those neighbors documented the tense encounter on video. >> phillip :an antioch police officer seen in position, hiding behind a red truck. the person filming this on west madill street knows he's there. but the burglars inside this home do not. police were called to the house just before 10 o'clock wednesday morning. after the neighbors filming this incident on camera. noticed the same two men who passed by on scooters minutes earlier. returned with masks and hoodies. after opening the side gate and busting through the back window. police showed up and waited until the burglars walked out with items from the house -- and, caught them red handed. both men were taken into one of them in his teens. antioch's police chief allan cantando says neighbors helping other neighrbors is leading to a reduction in crime here in the city -- especially with the use of surveillance and cellphone video. in antioch, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> pam :now, only on kron-4. new information about an east bay hit and run. police are still looking for a driver who injured several people. including three children. kron-4 spoke to the childrens' father. he tells us, one of the injured kids. a 4 -year old girl. remains in intensive care tonight. but is doing better. the dramatic crash happened earlier this evening on interstate -80 near berkeley. the c-h--p says, the hit and run driver, rear- ended another car causing a rollover wreck. investigators say, the driver then fled on foot. into oncoming traffic. kron-4 spoke to the woman who was one car back when the wreck happened. and jumped into action. >>:god please help please help because we could not get this child out of the car. we had to struggle and cars were flying by. so we were just praying god jehovah god please get her out of the car. >> pam :we checked with the c-h- p tonight.they say, right now, it is still too early to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash the other two children injured in the accident. have been released from the hospital. a five- year old girl in the hospital tonight after being hit by a car at a busy san francisco mall. this is video of the scene from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c- 7. kron-4's grant lodes has more on the police investigation. and what residents call a dangerous intersection. >> grant :the girl is still in the hospital tonight.with serious injuries. officials say her mother also suffered injuries. the two were hit while walking near stonestown mall in san francisco,.when they were hit by an elderly driver. they were crossing 20-th avenue.when an 80 year old woman going south.struck them. it was just around noon today. police say right now there are conflicting witness statements. but at least one witness tells them the girl was hit by the s- u-v and completely run over.meaning the tires missed her. paramedics treated the driver.but the woman was eventually let go and allowed to drive away. police are looking into how fast she was driving at the time.but at this point there is no indication drugs or alcohol were involved. investigators also trying gather surveillance video at this point. those who frequent the area tell kron-4.they aren't surprised this happened.because the intersection is busy and drivers sit are not always aware of pedestrians. i'm grant lodes. kron-4 news. >> pam :san francisco police are still investigating the fatal, officer involved shooting of an erratic driver. the shooting happened on pine and van ness streets. after the chase and crash of a female driver. police say, 24-year-old alice brown went on a driving rampage, after being approached by plain clothes officers investigating the rental car she was in.which was reported stolen. the reckless driver struck several cars, and one man had to ditch his motorcycle to avoid being hit. two officers who were chasing the car on foot. made the decision to shoot brown, and not put innocent bystanders at risk. san jose police are searching for a woman who brought a stunt gun to hold up a 711 store. on montero. police say the woman entered the store demanded money from the cash register and then fled with the money on foot. the suspect is described as an african-american women with medium went straight hair doctors say there is an alarming increase in the number of children who are nearsighted. we'll tell you why and what parents can do about it. one tuesday afternoon. the c-h-p explained to us. the tactics used to stop the driver. now identified as 24- year old ramon bernal. police used a 'spike strip' to puncture the driver's tires. the strip is standard equipment in most c-h-p units. the spike strip flattened two of the car's tires. but police were surprised to see the car kept going for more than 30- additional miles. before a dramatic crash on northbound interstate -280. amazingly. bernal walked away with minor injuries. he is charged with felony evasion and driving under the influence of drugs. sitseveral dead bats with rabies. have been found in fremont recently, and alameda county vector control is announcing a rabies alert. the bats pictured here are from the same breed of bats recently found in fremont infected with rabies. alameda county vector control is passing out fliers. alerting residents near niles elementary school where the second bat was found. a third dead bat was found on a neighbors property near the school, but it did not test positive for rabies. people are advised to seek medical attention should they or their pets. have contact with any dead bat. coming up. more and more children being
