The state of washington released a few 911 calls tonight with people reporting the mudslide. They pointed out the dire situation that emergency workers would face. The search has been tough in miserable conditions. Officials have been accepting some volunteers to join the effort beginning tomorrow. This explosion from a train carrying crude oil in canada nine months ago killed 47 people. Now a proposal from one oil company could have oil being transported through the bay area in the same way. This is the biggest fear that benicia residents have regarding the transport of crude oil by raila repeat of a train accident like this one in their town. We have had lots of toxic problems here in benicia over the last 25 years but this is the worst potential disaster that our town could ever see and that is flamable, volitile, explosive bakin crude rolling down our industrial park. Valero Officials Say they understand some might be concerned but they say they place a high value on safety and precautions will be in place to minimize the hazzard. I know, just today, we were meeting with the Oil Spill Prevention and Response Group with the state at the refinery to talk about spill prevention and preparidness. Its part of the effort we go through to make sure we are ready if something was to happen. Valero executives say that getting crude to the refinery is inherently a risk but transporting crude oil by rail carrys with it about the same risk as transporting it by tanker ship. Officials also say that transporting the oil by rail is better for the air quality because the refinery will get less oil from ships which end up idoling for several hours while the oil is offloaded. In grand jury indictments of 16 alleged gang members and their associates from three East Palo Alto gangs. Among those indicted four men who are accused trying to rob a redwood city Jewelry Store which was caught on tape. Other charges facing suspects include include murder, attempted murder and drug dealing. Nine of the people indicted in the four murders could face life in prison or the death penalty. Three people are hospitalized in serious condition after a man fired a gun into a crowd of people in San Franciscos tenderloin neighborhood last night. The most recent case was earlier this month. March 14th a woman woke up in the middle of the night alone on a train that was parked in the maintenance yard.
