shooter. kron4 has complete team coverage and reaction from the mayor and the protest ors. we start -- protestors. we start with kron4's j. r stone >> reporter: we were about to do our 5:00 live shot, when we heard multiple gunshot, at least half a dozen from this direction. and there was a man laying in the praz plaza -- plaza who had been shot. you can see the area where he was shot. right now, that's a vigil, and there has been for the last hour or two. many people holding candles and paying their respects to a man who was in his 20s, and a man who is no longer. [ crowd noise ] >> reporter: s . what was supposed to be a one month anniversary #1e8 abrasion of occupy oakland turn -- anniversary of occupy oakland turned into a call for help. >> a guy got popped in the head, so i decided to follow that group of people. we come around from the porta potties, and i'm hearing six shots. it was crazy, man. the first thing -- the only thing i know to do is get away from the situation. >> reporter: soon after emergency crews arrived, paramedics went to work. witnesses say the shooting stemmed from a fist fight that happened here yesterday. >> it started off with verbal threats, ten it turned into a physical fist fight. ten from there, shots >> reporter: shots that would prove deadly. >> i walk up by the body, he's laid out. >> reporter: in the distance, you can see the vigil going on where this young man was shot. the shooter in this case, the killer in this case is still on the loose. as we pan out. and you look to my left here, you can see one of the lights they are putting in. a lot of the occupy campers were upset that some of the heights in the plaza are not on and working. one of the reasons why they've brought the new lights in this evening. reporting live in oakland, j. r. stone, kron4 news. >> reporter: at a news conference after the thursday evening shooting, jean quan said she doesn't know whether those involve order tied to the occupy movement or not. but she said it doesn't matter. and she renewed her call to have those who are camping here voluntarily leave immediately. >> i want to say this clearly. i'm calling on the campers to please leave voluntarily tonight. i've got city workers out there we're offering vouchers to the homeless shelters and alternative housing. we need -- and i'm going to say this one more time. we need a peaceful resolution to the encampment. i call on the campers to voluntarily leave. i call on the community to be united. we need the encampment closed. >> reporter: campers we speak with have given no indication that they plan to clear the plaza. we asked the mayor what the plan is. she keeps talking about a plan. what is her plan to clear the plaza? well, she has not given us any indication of what that plan is. she does say she wants it to be as peaceful as possible. she has also offered no time line for clearing the plaza. tonight, protestors at the oakland occupy camp held a candlelight vigil for the man shot and killed. but for some, the demonstrators say tonight's violence is making them pack up >> we're leaving because it seems to be a little bit of commotion going on, and we figured we may come back tomorrow. >> for the most part, everybody is warm and kind and open, even to -- i'm not from around here. >> reporter: you still feel safe? >> not necessarily, no. >> reporter: what are you going to do tonight? >> get a cheap motel. tonight 's occupy cal movement remained peaceful in contrast to the clashes last night. police officers kept a close eye on the student protestors as they gathered at sprowl plaza. >> reporter: more people have joined the occupy movement at sprowl plaza. now there's an area for people to eat meals. they remain committed to #1450e7ing on the ground outside sprowl hall. the university released this statement" we are not equipped to manage the hygiene safety, space, and conflict issues that emerge when an encampment takes hold." occupy movement supporterce have mixed feelings -- supporters have fixed feelings with berkeley's decision not to allow protestors to camp out. >> if they sleep outside and poop and pee just all around and leave it, i heard that was going on at wall street, then that's not cool. especially for us. >> reporter: university police officers kept their distance from the large group thursday evening. however, all of them watched and listened to what the student demonstrators are planning to do next week to protest tuition increases and education cuts. >> take down the uc system on tuesday the 16th. the goal is to invite community members across the city who have been pushed out of the uc system to protest the exclusiveness of our public education. in san francisco, occupy sf is still camping out with more tents going up every day. today, we talked with newly elected mayor, ed lee about his plan to deal with the protestors. >> we want everybody's input before we decide on what we're going to do. part of that input is from the occupiers themselves. and i look forward to meeting with them. there is more tolerance by the debts -- residents and businesses in that neighborhood. >> mayor lee added he will sparingly move the police into the camp. stay with kron4 as we continue to cover the up protests as they unfouled around the bay area. we -- unfold around the bay area. the changes are starting to get even closer to the bay area. a look at storm tracker four. most the bay area still clear this evening. but we're starting to see increasing cloud cover from san jose, rain approaching from the south and also from off-shore. here's a look at the storm. the core of it sits well off shore. you can see the tail end of it extending near northernical cam we're also -- northern california. we're also seeing a surge of clouds from the south. once this moves in tomorrow morning, we'll have showers nor the nor -- near the core of the storm. mid to late morning, we'll have rain. then possible afternoon showers. >> still ahead at 11:00, fallout continues following a sex abuse scandal that rocked penn state university. the emotional day as a college coaching legend is replaced. wedding preparations for 11-11-11 are under way. we'll take you to las vegas where thousands of couples are planning to tie the knot tomorrow. coming up later in this broadcast, the raiders in san diego and former penn state football popular, tony stewart -- football player tony stewart talks about joe paterno. big! big. big, big. big big big big? handcuffs, may have had inappropriate conduct with a child. it has been reported that sandusky was discovered raping that child. tom bradley will follow paterno as the new penn state football coach. a oakland raiders victory over the san diego challenger. two men started fight -- san diego chargers. it does not appear the fight had anything to do with a sports rivalry according to san diego police. no arrest has been made. of the injuries to the man were nonlife threatening in other news around the bay, after 40 years of living on the run, a man who says he shot at two south san francisco police officers turned himself in today. ronald bridgeport was also wanted for murdering a police officer in 1971. those charges were dropped for lack of evidence. the former black panther apologized in court today and says he is ready to take responsibility for his actions. a looka satellite and radar picture. a storm right off shore set to impact the bay area in the morning commute. here's the tail end of it getting closer to the coastline. this is moving very, very slowly; though. it looks like it's going to be late tomorrow morning we're going to see the rain. 3:00, still nothing, and the rain starting to approach by 6:00, just some light showers close to the coastline. then 8:00, showers picking up more off shore and down by the santa cruz mountains. and the storm is going to take a dive down to the south. most of the rain is going to miss us, off shore and down to the south. >> a break by noon, then we're going to see some wrap-around showers, the core of the storm for the afternoon. and the 7:00-hour doesn't show much activity. but we could still see scattered showers. 11:00, we'll start to see the showers wind down. rainfall totals, most of this is going to misus well off-shore. to the 10:00-hour, about a half an inch of rain over the santa cruz mountains. not much over the peninsula. a quarter inch of rain near san mateo. could see some pockets of rain through the bay area in the morning though. rain and cooler temperatures out there tomorrow. ten degrees cooler. decreasing cloud cover through saturday means it'll be slightly warmer into the afternoon. and we'll keep
