( darya ) a person of interest is being questioned after a grass fire in the oakland hills. it broke out yesterday morning near ascot and mastlands drives. that neighborhood is considered a high risk fire zone. firefighters were able to quickly get a handle on it. but while firefighters were on scene, they found a man claiming to have been stabbed. investigators say that man was ánotá stabbed -- and that person is now psychological evaluation. (darya) 12 people are without a home this morning after a fire broke out in sonoma. no one was injured in the fire but several cars were destroyed. the fire ruptured a gas line, causing at least four homes nearby to temporarily evacuate. the homeowner says she built the home 42 years ago. (darya) three people lived in the home, and nine other people who lived in buildings nearby are being assisted by the red cross. fire crews do not believe the fire was suspicious. ( mark ) the search has been suspended for a man who jumped off a boat near the antioch bridge. it appears the man was trying to retrieve a hat that had fallen in the water. the man's name has not been released -- but we do know he is in his mid-fifties. the man jumped off a 20- foot recreational boat. coast guard crews searched by air and water into the night... before suspending the operation. (anny) the storms overnight come a week after a tornado hit the area. it happened late last night in sampson county. take a look at the new video this morning showing the damage. you can see the debris as homes are completely destroyed. at least 14 people are injured... but they are expected to be okay. trees fell on houses and power lines... cutting electricity to 2,000 customers. right now there are more than a dozen reports of flipped homes and farm buildings destroyed. people who live in the area were still cleaning up after a tornado hit one week ago. we will continue to monitor the situation in north carolina and bring you updates as they become available. (mark) president trump is renewing his criticism of germany. this comes as chancellor angela merkel suggests her country needs to adopt a more independent stance in world affairs. president trump posted a tweet earlier this morning. it says --quote-- "we have a massive trade deficit with germany, plus they pay far less than they should on nato & military. very bad for u.s. this will change." merkel said germany's relations with the united states are of "outstanding importance" but it must engage with other key nations going forward. she also suggested in the wake of president trump's visit that europe's relationship with washington had shifted significantly. (mark) russian government officials discussed possibly having derogatory information about president trump and his top aides during the 2016 election. that's according to two former intelligence agents and a congressional source. they say the information may have been financial in nature. that info came from conversations that have been intercepted by u-s intelligence. but the sources warn that russia's claims could be exaggerated or made up as part of a "disinformation campaign." the white house has denied these allegations. (darya) happening today... the pentagon will be doing some missile defense system testing. the missile defense agency will see if the system can intercept and hit a mock target being launched from the pacific ocean. the test is the first of its kind in nearly three years. it's going to take place at the vandenberg air force base near lompoc. the anti-missile system is intended to protect the u-s from attacks involving ballistic missiles. people in the area are likely to see the interceptor being launched this afternoon... but any intended collision will take place somewhere over the pacific ocean. (darya) and the testing today comes as north korea claims to have fired a new type of ballistic missile. this is a picture of north korean leader kim jong un giving instructions at the missile launch site yesterday. the country claims the missile is a highly accurate war-head, but some experts doubt pyongyang's claims of success. kim's regime launched the missile yesterday and it landed in the ocean off japan's coast. north korean state media said kim supervised the launch, and that he's promising to develop more ballistic rockets. (mark) we are learning new information about the victims in a deadly shooting rampage in mississippi. a teen says his 18-year-old cousin sacrificed his life to shield him from a gunman's bullets. eight people were killed in the shooting spree at three different houses over the weekend. 15-year-old caleb edwards said he could feel the force of the bullets as his cousin was shot. rising overall... they are still relatively affordable compared to years past. and travelers can also find deals on discount airlines. cheap-air says the best time to buy plane tickets is 54 days before your flight. ( lydia )(lydia)this is the fourth time this year a police officer in fremont has shot someone.(take vo)yesterday's shooting happened after a uniformed patrol officer was flagged down by someone who said a man was waving a pipe and threatening people. the officer chased the suspect and when the two reached the south parking lot of a lucky supermarket they had a confrontation. police said during the confrontation is when the officer shot the person. (sot)"he had, the pipe was in his hand. the officer for a brief moment was in shock himself because the car was there, he bounced off the car. and then next thing you know, the cop shot him. he shot him three times." police and paramedics gave the suspect ( darya ) thanks lydia. we will check back with you through out the morning. ( mark ) heated arguments erupted at the texas state capitol over immigration. it started with a protest inside the capitol, and led to a violent threat by a lawmaker. ( darya ) anny hong is here with the details. ( anny @ land ) a lawmaker in texas threatened gun violence after protesters held a demonstration at the state capitol. the protesters were rallying against the state's new anti-sanctuary cities law. during the protest, republican representative matt rinaldi claimed he called immigration and customs enforcement on protesters he believed were undocumented immigrants. rinaldi says he was threatened by a democratic colleague and assaulted by another after telling them about the call. rinaldi says the democrat threatened that he would shoot anyone who got too close: state house: "it's a scary time in texas, and we've gotta make sure that we hold these politicians accountable who say these hateful things.">( anny @ land ) a bill passed earlier this month will make it a crime for officials to ignore federal immigration detainer requests. opponents fear it empowers police to question someone's immigration status at a traffic stop. ( mark ) former panama dictator manuel noriega has died at the age of 83. noriega ruled the central american nation from 19-83 until he was removed from power by the u-s military in 19-89. noriega spent nearly two decades in a u-s prison for drug trafficking and money laundering. after more jail time in france, noriega returned to panama in 20-11. he later apologized to his country for the offenses of his regime and his own actions that led up to the 1989 u-s invasion, and his ouster. (darya) happening today... a jury could deliver a verdict in the murder trial of three santa clara county jail guards accused of beating a mentally ill inmate to death. the jury began deliberations last week. michael tyree was found dead in his cell with a ruptured spleen at san jose's main jail in 2015. jereh lubrin, rafael rodriguez and matthew farris are the deputies who could face life in prison if convicted. they are also facing charges connected to the beating of a second mentally ill inmate on the same night. defense attorneys say tyree died when he slipped and landed on the corner of a sink. (mark) the university of california is facing new allegations that the u-c board of regents spent money on parties -- even while voting to raise tuition. the san francisco chronicle found that since 2012.....u.c. president janet napolitano reimbursed the regents for more than 225- thousand dollars in dinner parties. during that period - the regents held four to six parties a year for themselves and other guests. the parties include a 17- thousand-dollar banquet the night before the board voted in january to raise tuition. a u.c. spokesperson says the dinners are a tradition going back decades, using private money given to the university. (darya) police say tiger woods was asleep at the wheel but had no alcohol in his system when officers spotted his car stopped along a florida road. an affidavit released tuesday said woods was alone and wearing his seat belt when jupiter police officers found his mercedes early monday in the right lane. the car's engine was running and its lights were on. the report says officers woke woods, who had "extremely slow and slurred speech" and told them he took several prescriptions. according to the report, woods was confused and asked how far he was from his hobe sound home. officers said woods was cooperative but failed a roadside sobriety test. breath and urine tests showed no alcohol in his system. woods' arraignment in palm beach county court on a dui charge is scheduled for july 5. (darya) a brawl breaks out between the giants and nationals on memorial day. in the 8th inning, giants pitcher hunter strickland hits nationals star bryce harper. and he wasn't happy. he throws his helmet at strickland and the two start throwing punches. the benches cleared and this lasted about five minutes before both sides were eventually separated. both harper and strickland were ejected. the nationals won the game 3 to nothing. the teams play again tonight at 7:00. ( mark ) a man was attacked and robbed at a bart station in the east bay and the attackers are still on the loose. the crime happened sunday at the richmond bart station. the victim was punched in the face and then robbed. the attacker ran off. police have not yet released a description of the thief. ( darya ) in the east bay.. police say two people are dead and six are recovering this morning after a crash in alameda. it happened in the area of park street and lincoln avenue yesterday morning. the crash involved a minivan and a full-size truck. seven people were in the truckone of whom died at the scene. another victim in the truck was taken to the hospitalwher e he died of his injuries. the other five people in the truck are in critical condition this morning. the woman driving the minivan has injuries that are non-life threatning. police say speed appears to be a factor in the crash. ( darya ) a brand-new water park in dublin remains open with the exeception of two slides after a child was hurt on one of them. during the park's big grand opening on saturday, a ten-year-old fell out of the emerald plunge water slide. officials inspected the water slide yesterday morning. they were trying to make sure it's safe and determine if the rules need to be changed before the slide re-opens. the boy who fell off the slide suffered injuries. ( mark ) happening today... attorney's will give closing arguments in the penalty phase of the trial of anotlin garcia-torres. he was convicted of murdering morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. the prosecution is asking for the death penalty. lawyers for garcia-torres are arguing that he may have been exposed to pesticides that may have caused a mental illness. the closing arguments are set to begin later this morning. ( darya ) the mayor of benicia is proposing new regulations for the valero oil refinery.( mark ) this comes after a flaring event earlier this month that sent thick, black smoke into the sky. anny hong his here with the details. anny? ( anny ) the flaring happened back on may 5th when there was a major power outage at the valero refinery. nearby offices were evacuated, two elementary schools were ordered to shelter in place, and a dozen people were taken to the hospital. now mayor elizabeth patterson says the refinery needs additional oversight. she is proposing that the city adopt a new safety ordinance that would prevent future chemical releases, and create a safety plan for the community. ( anny ) valero says a new safety ordinance is unnecessary because safety rules are already put in place by the state. but mayor patterson says the new rules would hold the refinery accountable at a city level. the proposal is expected to go before the city council in july. back to you. ( darya ) vacaville police shot and killed a man after a police chase that ended right in front of the vacaville outlets. it happened yesterday morning when police discovered a honda civic was stolen out of davis. the chase started on interstate 80 east and ended at the retail outlets. officers were able to stop the suspect's car by tapping the back corner of the car. shots were fired and the suspect was killed. (darya) happening today... a jury could deliver a verdict in the murder trial of three santa clara county jail guards accused of beating a mentally ill inmate to death. the jury began deliberations last week. michael tyree was found dead in his cell with a ruptured spleen at san jose's main jail in 2015. jereh lubrin, rafael rodriguez and matthew farris are the deputies who could face life in prison if convicted. they are also facing charges connected to the beating of a second mentally ill inmate on the same night. defense attorneys say tyree died when he slipped and landed on the corner of a sink. ( mark ) the university of california is facing new allegations that the u-c board of regents spent money on parties -- even while voting to raise tuition. the san francisco chronicle found that since 2012.....u.c. president janet napolitano reimbursed the regents for more than 225- thousand dollars in dinner parties. during that period - the regents held four to six parties a year for themselves and other guests. the parties include a 17- thousand-dollar banquet the night before the board voted in january to raise tuition. a u.c. spokesperson says the dinners are a tradition going back decades, using private money given to the university. (darya) police say tiger woods was asleep at the wheel but had no alcohol in his system when officers spotted his car stopped along a florida road. an affidavit released tuesday said woods was alone and wearing his seat belt when jupiter police officers found his mercedes early monday in the right lane. the car's engine was running and its lights were on. the report says officers woke woods, who had "extremely slow and slurred speech" and told them he took several prescriptions. according to the report, woods was confused and asked how far he was from his hobe sound home. officers said woods was cooperative but failed a roadside sobriety test. breath and urine tests showed no alcohol in his system. woods' arraignment in palm beach county court on a dui charge is scheduled for july 5.
