It is backed up onto the eastbound skyway, onto the northbound james lake, you can see the start the backup. From 280. An awful commute trying to get out of San Francisco. Plus they blocked all on ramps coming out of downtown in the financial district. They closed all ramps leading onto the lower decks. Stay away from the area if you can. Take the 280 extension if you want to get into downtown San Francisco. Consider part for the east bay or the san mateo bridge. Coming up i will talk about how this is impacting the westbound commute into San Francisco. Commuters can see the eastbound activity. We will talk about all that coming up. Weather and traffic. Storm sliding through the area. Minute by minute tracking the rain. And the fall forecast going into the friday evening. Lets start with whats happening now james. We will turn to Storm Tracker for. You can see it updating in real time. East bay commute beginning to thin out. Mainly in the delta. But its steady rain for all of highway 4. And 680, highway 24 into oakland also underwent weather. 680, intensifies as you get closer to the south bay. You see the bits of yellow. That will be impacting. You can see in spots that rain is coming down hard. The peninsula all being also being enveloped. You can see it impacting the san mateo bridge. Most of the peninsula, it lightens up when you get toward South San Francisco redwood city, san mateo, all those areas under light and moderate rain. The north bay for the most part light rain. It builds in spots like the napa valley. Also we are tracking this yellow, that is a line of intense showers moving off in the direction, impacting all of these communities on highway 101. Laces like petaluma. Places like petaluma. There is also heavy rain coming onshore near santa cruz. This cell we are watching carefully. If they can hold together over the Santa Cruz Mountains its heading toward san jose and the Santa Clara Valley. Things could get more intense in the next hour as the system continues to work its way in your direction. We are tracking it here in the Weather Center and we will let you know when it gets close. Heres what you need to know. Went all morning. By noon it breaks up for kids while they are having lunch. And at 3 pm when youre heading to pick them up, bring an umbrella. Theres a chance for scattered showers throughout the afternoon. Keep that in mind. The bulk of the wet weather happens in the 1st half of the day but you may get sprinkles through the afternoon. New information this morning about the deadly shooting near interstate 80 in richmond. It happened yesterday when a body was found on Hilltop Drive onramp. Broke the story yesterday. Now police are saying they have identified the man but they are not releasing his name. They say the victim is a latino man in his 30s. He was shot multiple times. Its unclear if he was targeted or if it was gangrelated. There have been more than 3 dozen shootings on bay area freeways since november. 2 juveniles, at least one is facing charges after 2 were arrested and they were connected to the shooting and the San Francisco high school last week. Its it happened in the parking lot. 4 students were injured and police announced they had made 2 arrests in connection with the shooting. Only one of the teenagers has been charged. Investigators say it was a teenage girl who is the target of the shooting. She suffered lifethreatening injuries and 3 other students were hurt. Decision 2016. Ntsb has a team in new york after Vice President still mike pence is jet skidded off the runway. It happened at laguardia airport. The Vice President al candidate was not injured. No one was injured. The plane was not damaged but there was damage to the runway. It is torn up. Members of the press who were on the plane described the experience. We came into laguardia and you could feel the turbulence. Low clouds, couldnt see much. As soon as we landed on the runway it was a hard landing. And then you could feel the plane fishtailing toward the back. He spoke with 1st responders before thinking emergency crews on twitter. Hillary clinton tweeted she was glad no one was hurt. Most of the dmv offices in california are back up and running. After a major peter outage. The issue was caused by catastrophic computer failure. Theyve not explain what went wrong. They say the system was not packed or targeted. Technology experts show the dmv does not have a good Disaster Recovery system in place. An impressive line of heavy showers across the north bay and a batch about to slam the south bay. I am tracking major delays heading into and out of San Francisco. An accident at the entrance to the lower of the bay bridge involving a jackknifed big rig. Important step forward. The time is long overdue. Pharmaceutical industry. Passes the ballot. Back to breaking news. People trying to get out of San Francisco on the big a bridge. A big rig overturned. Live on the scene with an update. Avery what is going on . Reporter you can see the traffic is moving along i 80 at the base of the bay bridge eastbound. One lane is open. Excuse me, 2 lanes are open but its making major delays on 80 e. If you trying to get to the bay bridge, you can see here the big rig has jackknifed. The is separated from the trailer. It created a diesel spill. You can see on the other side that this is the diesel spill. There are called trap caltrans crews trying to clean it up. This happen before 5 am. There are reports that a driver cut off the big rig. The big rig driver lost control and hit the wall here along the side of the bay bridge and eventually stopped because of the friction between the wall and the truck. They are still working to clean this up. They say they are working quickly. Its taking time because of the diesel spill. The couldve been several factors that caused the crash including the driver who possibly cut off the big rig driver. Also the weather. It is slippery. I told you earlier it was difficult to see the line on the roads because of the rain. That is something they are looking into this morning. Right now they are saying it could be one hour or 1. 5 hours before they havent cleared. That is when they will let people come back through on the lower of the bay bridge. I will be here throughout the morning. I really feel for those big rig drivers. Its hard for them to make turns and stops. And people will just squeezing. They cant avoid you. You have to change the way you drive in wet weather. People did not do that. They are rushing in getting on the road. They tailgate, follow closely. You cannot do that in wet weather or else you end up in a mess like this. This is not the only problem. This is just one of the worst hot spots. Weve had problems with flooding on the rams. Overturned accidents. This one is causing a major delay and impacting traffic heading into and out of San Francisco. A quick recap. 80 e. At the entrance to a lower . A jackknifed big rig. Traffic is now getting by in the 2 right lanes. That is great but that spills to 101 and throughout San Francisco almost out to 3rd street. Heres the central freeway backed up to the very beginning. All that traffic trying to merge onto the lower . Double the normal drive time. Its impacting westbound traffic. Its backed up through the toll into the maze. 23 minutes. Have at the san mateo bridge . West 92 traffic is creeping through 80 over 2 101. Nothing about the slowing. You can take 92 e. As an alternate to the bay bridge mess. That will help you get to the east bay. Richmond sent to fit bridge stop and go traffic. 580 nothing major in the north bay. Backed up to harbor. You should give yourself at least 25 minutes from the toll out to highway 101. Lets talk about the weather. You saw the wet road she was talking about with the spin out. This is what it looks like from radar. Widespread. Agreement means light rain. The yellow means moderate. Orange beans heavy. In pockets around the bay. East bay and highway 4 looking better in the last 10 or 15 minutes. 680 is still a problem with light rain from concord down. 24, and to make the split of walnut creek and head toward oakland you lighten up a bit as you approach the tunnel and its okay on the oakland side but that does not last long. Lower portions of the east bay, livermore, the 680 ride and you can see you start to pick up moderate pockets of rain and heavy pockets at times. San jose, downtown dealing with the same situation. As you move up toward Silicon Valley it is light rain on 11 and 280, 101. And the bridge that connects to the east bay under light rain. As conditions improve as you head toward San Francisco, it doesnt stay that way for long. Went wet weather offshore that will spread across San Francisco. The north bay has been like this all morning. Wide spread light rain blanketing the wine country. Heavier showers off shore. This train of moisture has been moving up this path impacting 101, petaluma and all those communities. Rain intensity is picking up. We are tracking this bit down in the south bay. Just south of san jose along highway 101, some heavy rain beginning to move up the entire track. As we met up map out the timing, san jose will probably see the intensity pickup in 5 or 10 minutes. Livermore, likely toward 8 am. In about 40 minutes. Lots to track on the weather friend. Here is where the rain is expected to go. It a. M. , that is the intense rain moving into the south bay. By 9 or 10 it should start to livermore, fremont and concord. As we roll out to 11 am and beyond that is when you begin to see the showers break up. Your next 8 hours will we will call it cloudy and somewhat cloudy but showers are possible. Breaking news. Word of a shooting in el cerrito. This coming in to kron4. 2600 block of mira vista drive. One person was killed in the shooting. It happened at 9 pm last night. Were just getting word. The victim dying at the scene. Will bring you more information as soon as we get it. Deadly shooting in el cerrito. The recent storms we are seeing including this one putting a dent in the states drought. One year ago the state was in extreme drought. Enough rain has fallen that the northwestern part of the state is back to normal. This is the latest drought map. You can see much of the bay area is considered normally dry or in a moderate drought. The worst levels continue to be in southern and central california. The rain for the weekend will is it even more. Snow expected for parts of the sierra which normally stores a huge amount of the states water supply in the form of snow pack. A california woman has been awarded more than 70 million over a baby powder lawsuit. A jury in st. Louis made this ruling. Shes from modesto. She says she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer 2012 and it came from years of using johnson and johnson baby shower powder. She accused the company of negligent conduct in the making and marketing of that baby powder. Many people say this raises concerns about the Health Implications of using talcum powder for an extended period of time. Researchers say it has been suggested to increase the risk of Ovarian Cancer in women.
