Out live at San Francisco international airport, temperatures slowly warming, 59 in san jose, 49 still in santa rosa so chilly in some of those protected valleys to the north. Liver moore at 58, concord at 55. Were seeing a lot of upper 50s. This afternoon, temperatures should warm up in the south bay to the low 90s. 87 in Mountain View, you get the idea. So a lot of upper 80s. Well see a few more low 90s out in the east bay. The delta all expected to be around that 89 to 92degree range. Slightly cooler along the east bay shoreline, 83 will be the expected high in oakland. 78 for San Francisco. Even along the east the shoreline or the coastline, i should say, the peninsula, it will be mild, 72 at ocean beach and well finish our tour in the north bay, upper 80s in there, mildner san rafael, and mostly clear skies. Things will change as we head into tomorrow. We have a system in the pacific that should bring us rain by tuesday night. As we push the clock forward, by 6 00 in the evening on tuesday, maybe a few light showers up in the north bay. Even by 10 00, its still basically confined to the north bay, maybe a quarter inch total accumulation. Wednesdayel system will center up over the bay and it will move on by five. As youre waking up, well have a few pieces of wet weather but by the time you head out to your morning commute and by noon time, the wet weather clears out nicely. Thats the way were expecting it to play out here over the next couple of days. A brief break thursday, few more sprinkles friday, all in all, no the a badlooking weekend. We could sure use the rain. Now to traffic. George, good morning. Hot spot the ride on 101 in the southbound direct, still jammed up even though the accident is in palo alto on the freeway. There were two separate incidents. We still have, however, problems just east of the freeway on the frontage road, which is still shut down because of a fatal crash there. But on the freeway itself, were still backed up into Red Wood City and the northbound ride is backed up into Mountain View heading toward oregon expressway, embarcadero road. Believe it or not, after our big accident cleared, we had two separate new incidents up in solano county, one right at highway 12, the other here at american canyon, so it continues to be slow through fairfield for your ride toward the cordelia junction. The bay bridge backup breaking up a bit here, though its still slow in the maze. The 880 approach, much improved. San mateo bridge still backed up end to end, 4 minutes from heyward out to san mateo. We got word a while back of a fire that was burning under the freeway, 238, the connecting freeway that runs from the Castro Valley y to the freeway. It turned out that fire was not only adjacent to the freeway, but also adjacent to the bart tracks here at the bay fair station, so because of that, they had to service a while between bay fair and heyward. That was affecting trains on both of these lines, fremont San Francisco and Fremont Richmond and they had to stop service there for a while, which also affected trains on the dublin pleasanton line as well. The good news is theyve managed to extinguish the fire and trains are running again. They have reestablished service between bay fair and heyward but they are looking at 20 minute delays. Remember, thats sufficient to be classified as a major delay. We have video of the bart station . I know we had some available earlier. Im not sure if its Still Available now. But trains are running once again, though it had been delayed for a while. And we will be in recovery mode and remember when bart talks about major delays of 20 minutes, theyre talking about the train delays, passenger delays could actually be considerably more. Lets look at some other traffic issues here. As we look at the ride through palo alto, jammed up in both directions leading to embarcadero road. Still jammed up in and out of San Francisco. Solano county finally in recovery after earlier recurring problems. Your ride to the bay bridge westbound, still slow out of the maze but the drive times are right around 20 minutes. The san mateo bridge still solid from heyward all the way out to san mateo, not a very good ride and your trip here at the Richmond Bridge still slow enough that 580 westbound backs up from just before castro as you try to get out toward midspan. Lets get a check of the weather. Heres james. Well start off this with live look from the top of mount tam, looking out over San Francisco, clear skies through much of the day. The clouds could build up along the coasts with we head through the mid afternoon but the bay area will be nice. Just a touch cooler than yesterday. Our inland valleys will still be upwards of upper 80s and low 90s, they tuesday, that cooldown goes bay areawide. We have the clouds rolling in and light rain possible late tuesday into early wednesday. Thats when those showers are expected to impact the bay area, mainly the north bay, but it could drop a few drops here and there on the east bay and the peninsula. Things will clear out by mid morning on wednesday. Thats a quick glimpse where the weather is going to be here in the next few days. Well come back at 8 45 with a complete look at the forecast. Can you see the flag there at the top . Barely blowing. Temperaturewise, slowly warming up, but 60 now in pleasanton, 69 in san jose, 65 in San Francisco. 57 across the bay in oakland so, still a lot of upper 50s to throw 60s. We havent seen those temperatures jump just yet but by noon time, well replace the temperatures by 70s by the bay and 80s inland. It will be a little cooler than yesterday but still on the warm side as you can see here, 90 for fairfield and antioch, upper 80s to low 90s for the santa clara valley. And well finish the tour in the north bay, look for upper 80s through throughout the wine country. The wider view shows we have a system in the pacific thats headed our way. The timing of it puts it over the bay area sometime late tuesday night through the Early Morning hours on wednesday and thats why we put that on your 7day forecast. Not a lot of rain with this. Were looking for perhaps a quarter of an inch at most for the north bay hills. Everybody else will get way below that. Brief break thursday and more light showers for friday and saturday. Now to traffic, george, good morning. Good morning, james. The biggest hot spot is the ride through palo alto on the bay shore freeway, and we had a pair of accidents at embarcadero road southbound that jammed up the ride in both directions so we are still backed up coming out of san mateo southbound out of Mountain View san jose in the northbound direction. There is still problems as well on the frontage road. Well show you those in a moment. As we continue to track delays in and out of San Francisco, and because of a fire here near 238 and also near the bay fair bart station tracks, we had problems with the delays coming out of Castro Valley on 580 westbound and bart is still recovering now 5 to 10minute delays between heyward and bay fair stations. Looking at the bridges, the bay bridge ride breaking up nicely, finally, so definitely a little lighter here. The san mateo bridge, sadly, no relief. Were looking at solid conditions still from heyward all the way to san mateo, 28 minute drive times. This is the peak time for the Golden Gate Bridge but you wouldnt know it to look at it. This is a live first conference happening with the cdc getting an update on the epidemic. Doing that in a way that works for you is very important. Were looking at what are the ways to do this most safely and most easily. One of the things that we found is that sometimes Health Care Workers may think that more is better so may put on additional sets of gloves or additional coverages coverings and that may actually make things less rather than more safe because it may be so difficult to remove those levels or layers that it inadvertently increases risk. We dont know that that happened here but its one of the things weve been addressing. Even before the individuals infection, we had improved some of the Infection Control practices at the hospital. Over the past 24 hours, weve undertaken a series of improvements, and well continue to look at as we investigate every possible way to increase safety for Health Care Workers. Elizabeth taylor, cbs 46. My question is regarding the screenings that you mentioned are going to start at hartsfield jackson. Do those work . If someone is nonsymptomatic as duncan was when he gets here, you know, how are we going to stop him . And were kind of relying on, you know, everyone being honest to say that they ran into someone or they didnt. The airport screenings will identify people with fever. They will undergo a detailed questionnaire about contact and if theres any possible contact, secondary or tertiary screening by the cdc specialized Public Health officers at the airports, but we recognize that until we stop the outbreak in west africa, theres no way to get the risk in the u. S. To zero. What we can do is stop its spread within the u. S. And minimize the possibility that we have other cases here and thats exactly what were doing. Well go to the phones. The first question. Again, if you would like to ask a question on the phones, please press star 1 and record your name when prompted. Please limit your question to one question. Our first question comes from evan brown of fox news radio. Go ahead, sir. Your line is open. Good afternoon and thank you for doing this. Is there any type of either federal standard or state level standards for hospital employees, nurses, doctors, respiratory technicians, lab technicians, to work in an Isolation Unit . Jackie sissel is live with more. Reporter good morning, darya. Im out here at Half Moon Bay and the growers from across the state are coming out to show off their championship or potentially championship gourds. They come from across the state to do this. This is the 41st annual Great Pumpkin wayoff weighoff in Half Moon Bay. You probably need a chainsaw if youre going to dig one of these up. They weigh like a small volkswagen. The words record is well over 2,000 pound and if a grower today were to grow a pumpkin that would beat that record, he could win up to 30,000. I had a chance to talk to one of the growers of the pumpkins out here that has worked all year long and they take it very seriously, darya. Pumpkin were opening is about 1100 pounds or more, and its a great hobby. Everyone who does this, whether theyll admit it or not, theyre pretty competitive and its a five to six months of babysitting a plant and unlike many gardeners who go out every other day or so and pick a tomato or a zucchini, these plants get daily attention about 30 minutes to an hour per plant. So you got to be a marathon runner, its not a sprint. Now that gentleman that i just talked to actually just had his pumpkin weighed and he was close, he was about 1,033 pounds. The leader in the clubhouse is just under 1,400 pounds. There are expected to be about 50 to 55 competitors. Were about 20, 25 into this, so this will be going on for several more hours f youre a pumpkin lover, this is the place to be, darya. Im thinking about stuff they could do with the big pumpkins. I dont know, do they ever like make pies with them or drop them from a crane and watch them smash . Reporter you know, there are very specific rules about these pumpkins, they have to be in one piece, no holes. One of the championship pumpkins last year was being rolled out, because they have to use forklifts to get these pumpkins from the back of the building to the front. They accidentally dropped one of those pumpkins. This guy spent months and month to do it and on the way to the scale it fell off and broke. Oh, boy, thats terrible. Thanks a lot, jackie. Well see what happens live in Half Moon Bay. I hope they at least weighed the pieces. Back in july, public works and city clean, a nonprofit, trying to beautify the city installed three pit stop portable toilets usually put into Service Tuesday through friday during the peak bathroom area. The areas with the most problems. They come equipped with a place to dispose of syringes, dog litter and toilets. Each person is allowed five minutes to do what they have to do or theyll get a knock on the door. Talk about pressure. But are they working . Some people say yes, it has cut down on public urination, sort of like what this guy is doing on myrtle alley. Stop them for a minute but as soon as i leave, they come right here. The porta potties need to be 24 hours a day. But heres the problem, there are already some permanent ones that people use at a shooting gallery and since the pit stops have attends to prevent abuse prevent abuse, 24 hours a day would create broader issues.
