(grant) about 300-people gathered on the u-c berekely campus to recognize international women's day. participants listened to several speakers address subjects.... from wage equality.... to the black lives matter movement. some people at the rally told us...there is now a greater need to advocate for women...because republicans are in control in washington. laura hayes/women's day supporter: "this is for us to come together and feel more empowered and understand that we can make a difference if we can come together"melanie feakins/uc berkeley professor :"i'm also resisting the possibility of cuts to planned parenthood. this is one of the things that ensures women's access to medical care"pamela williams/international women's williams/internatipamela pamela williams/international women's want to be able to tell my children that i girls, so they will be able to stand because we got a family"(grant) the women's day rally lasted about 3-hours on the cal campus. u-c police were there, but not needed because although the participants were passionate...they were also peaceful. (vicki)in the 1970s, one of the main objectives of the new women's liberation movement was equal pay for equal work. back then women earned less than 60 cents for every dollar earned by men.now it's more than 90 cents.but that's the national average.here in california, not only is the pay gap much bigger ... it is getting even worse. sfxthe latest figures from the federal government says the median weekly paycheck for a woman in california is about 15 percent less than a man's. that's 775 dollars compared to 914 dollars.that adds up to about seven thousand dollars a year.and it is the widest gap since 2002.there's some evidence the tech industry may be contributing to the gap. national figures show men now earn an avereage of just over five percent more than women in comparable jobs.the bay area salary website glassdoor dot com says 75 percent of tech jobs have a wider pay gap. female computer programmers make an average of 28 percent less than men with the same experience.women game artists earn 16 percent less.the same is true for female computer security specialists and software architects. (vicki)according to the silicon valley bank, 70 percent of tech startups this year have no women directors. that's just the reverse of the situation in china, where two thirds of new tech companies have female leaders. (vicki) we have just learned the fourth victim from the riverside plane crash... has died... her name is stacey pierce.... we spoke to her husband just two days ago and he told us stacey was still not talking and had to have both of her legs amputated... stacey and four others were on a plane headed to san jose from riverside when it crashed into two homes last week. they were coming from disneyland where they finished watching a cheerleading competition. three people were killed... including stacey's mother and step-father - who was the pilot. all are from the san jose area. a go-fund me account has been set up to pay for the three funerals... (grant) another big story we are tracking tonight at five... some homeowners in the east bay area on edge tonght... they say their homes are in danager of going over the edge...and falling into a creek... because of erosion. this is drone video of what it looks like in pleasaton. kron 4's will tran reports on the effort to stop this destructive trend. the creek in their backyard is like a hammer.. slamming against their cliff.unless something can be done very soon.. their homes might come toppling down.(ginger belshe-- it's every scary, not knowing what we will wake up to us. it keeps falling every single day. rain or no rain)belshe and some of her neighbors say heavy rains over the past five weeks have caused their backyards to crumble into the creek by as much as 40 feet. even when it's not raining... the cliff is very saturated... soft... and can't be trusted until major repairs are done. (ginger belshe- our life as we know it is hell. i have never. i have no words)ted smith lives next door.somehow his home is ok... for now... but that doesn't mean he's not worried.smith says they've known about the danger lurking their backyard for at least a year... but only recently did they get help from the city (ted smith/homeowner- neglect from zone 7, city of pleasanton. nobody is paying attention until it gets to an emergency need. now all of a sudden everyone wants to come out and help out)crews spent the day down in the creek... seeing what can be done.smith says one solution could be placing huge boulders along the cliff and packing it with dirt(will tran/pleasanton--the question is who will pay for it? smith says probably not homeowners insurance or the city or the county? smith doesn't have those answers. he says one thing they know for sure... they don't have a lot of time.in pleasanton will tran k4 news (vicki) moving to the south bay... we're getting new details tonight about the murder of a san jose little league coach. frank navarro was working security at the tres gringos nightclub when he was stabbed to death just after midnight on february 26th. 6 people have now been accused of his murder two of them had their first court appearance today. kron 4's dan kerman joins us live from the hall of justice in san jose with what occurred prior to the stabbing. more navarro murder suspects 0308175pkgthese 6 people have been charged with the murder of little league coach frank navarro who was stabbed to death last month while working security at the tres gringos nightclub two of suspects, brothers santos trevino who is alleged to have done the stabbing and joseph esquivel made their first court appearance wednesday afternoon members of navarro's family were in the courtroom .sot angela tirado/navarro family spokesperson 23-31i agree with the family that justice needs to be served, this is a senseless tragedy that did not need to occurthe district attorney says this all began when esquivel and his sister percella tried to enter the tres gringos nightclub just before midnight on the february 25th. prosecutors say the club does not allow those with facial tatoos to enter, so esquivel covered his up with makeup and used his brother santos trevinos i.d. sot lance daugherty / deputy district attorney 52-102 security realized that was not esquival's i.d and confiscated it. the esquivels demanded it back and threatened the security guard would be sorry if they didn't return it. prosecutors say the esquival's got on their cell phone and within ten minutes their brother santos trevino and three cousins arrived at the club.sotthey meet up , approach the security guard demanding the i.d., santos and his brother began punching the security guard, as well as the group attacking the other security guard, frank navarro comes in to help, santos trevino pulls out a knife and stabs ultimately killing frank navarro.now all 6 are charged with navarro's murdersotso not only is the person who actually stabbed frank navarro but everyone else that participated and had a role in the violence at tres gringos our office is going to hold them criminally liable for their actions that night 200/actions that night (grant) tonight...there's renewed hope a cold case in sunnyvale will be solved. investigators have received a picture of a car possibly connected to the 20-14 shooting death of 20-year ernesto castro. kron four's philippe djegal reports... the tip is the result of reward money offered in this case. 20-year-old ernesto castro... gunned down in sunnyvale on august second 20-14. captain shawn ahearn with the department of public safety says castro was near the picnic area in encinal park with a group of friends that daycaptain shawn ahearn- "and, a person or persons, uh from a, uh, grassy area, uh, off in the distance, uh, fired shots, uh at the group." castro died in the park... the woman wounded survived.captain shawn ahearn- "this is a photo we obtained of a, uh, suspicious vehicle that was in the area of the homicide during the time of the homicide." the tip -- ahearn says -- is the result of a 20-thousand dollar reward offered by the d-p-s two week's ago.captain shawn ahearn- "even though it's a really grainy photo, we're just trying to see what information we can get."bridge captain ahearn says castro's murder was the city's lone homicide in 2014.nats- car passing park the car in the photo described by the d-p-s as a gold or tan 1990s honda civic or accord with a sunroof and seven spoked rims. captain shawn ahearn- "any homicide that's left out there, we're always trying to do follow-up to see that, you know, we can get resolution." captain ahearn says the deadly shooting was gang-related. and, that his department will continue to investigate this cold case now with a new lead. in sunnyvale, philippe djegal, kron four news. (vicki) a landslide shuts down a major road in the north bay - causing headaches for commuters.(vicki) still ahead on kron four news at five. we'll tell you which part of sir francis drake remain closed this evening - and when crews plan to reopen it to drivers. (vicki) but first, questions still surround the community of san jose... as to how the coyote creek overflowed - sending thousands of people running from their homes. next a live report - on how the city plans to prevent something like this from happening again. lawrence karnow: another beautiful day today but it could get even better. i will tell you where next. tonight...people are still assessing the damage and still looking for answers...after last months devastating flood along coyote creek in san jose.(vicki) the stage is set for a public vetting of what went wrong.... kron four's rob fladeboe is standing live to tell us about it. rob? we can still see the tell tale x's left by search and rescue teams on some of the homes here in the hard hit rock springs neighborhood. the clean-up persists and so do the questions about what happened and how to make sure it doesn't happen again. tomorrow, we may get some answers. reni lobato/flood victim : see how high the water was right here">(rob)if only there had been a little more warning about the creek rising, reni lobato and many other victims feel there would have been a lot less damage. reni/lobato/flood victim has so far been pegged at $73 million dollars. after speaking to the san jose rotary this afternoon, state senate president pro tem kevin de leon said there appears to be a good casefor some type of financial help. kevin de leon/state senate pro tem for reni lobato, who will likely have to replace the floor in her mobile home, the help can't arrive too soon. reni lobato/flood victim: "oh i'm sure that between the loss of the shed and damage under the house, at least three to four thousand dollars" flood victims, city and county officials and representatives of the santa clara valley water district, among others, are expected to attend that public hearing set for three o'clocktomorrow afternoon in the san jose city council chambers at city hall. (grant) happening now... part of sir francis drake boulevard near fairfax is closed because of a landslide. and it's causing major problems for commuters. the road closure is at baywood canyon road...between fairfax and san geronimo. this is the second time this week that section of roadway had to be shutdown because of a landslide. kron four's terisa estacio... tells us when we can expect to see the road reopen. (nats: tree limb comes crashing down. )(terisa)this one of more than 20 trees removed from this hillside off of sir francis drake near baywood. (nats: more noise of colliding trees)early wednesday morning - the hill gave away yet again. that marks four times already this winter. ernest klock - marin countys primary civil engineer: "you can see the water right over there. the water is just seeping through the ground. even though this is a clear day. " as crews cleaned up - another problem exposed. ernest klock marin county's primary civil engineer says they found back behind the slide right up here - further weakening. in response, they did something they don't normally don't do. klock: "we are going to put water on the hill to start a slide. we don't usually do that, but we need to make this area safe." vicky carothers/commuter: " question, this has really impacted a lot of people, yes." sir francis drake is a major through fare - commuters use the route to cut through the congested county - plus there are numerous nearby schools. vicky carothers - commuter: "i can't get to work. i volunteer at the school close by."another issue - pge had planned to temporarily cut power in area so the excavator could help remove soil - but for some reason - it was pushed until midnight which means this road will stay closed much longer then hoped for. klock: "we can't have it open if there is a threat of something coming down." and it is unclear how long the road will be closed for. pge had planned to cut the power in the area temporarily so that crews could go under a line and remove unstable soil. but now, pge has decided to wait till midnight and that means crews must wait and everyone else must wait till the road can be re-openned. in marin terisa estacio kron 4 news. lawrence karnow: it was another beautiful day with even warmer temperatures. it is definitely feeling like spring today. we had plenty of temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s and it should be even warmer tomorrow. doppler radar is still showing some rain will to our north and the pacific northwest. but high pressurre over much of california will keep the weather very mild with highs running 5 to 10 degrees above average. tonight will be mostly clear with some patchy fog moving along the coast and into the bay late tonight. you can see high pressure bulding in for thurdays to make it likely the warmest day of the week. some temperatures inland could reach the mid 70s! if you plan to travel around the state, you will find warm weather in southern california and into the monterey bay. rain is still likely in far norther california. it still looks great if you want to head up to the mountains to the snow. the roads should be open and highs in lake tahoe will be in the mid 50s into the weekend. so tomorrow will be the warmest day of the week with temperatures in the low to mid 70s inland. i do think we'll see some patchy fog along the coast to kepp highs there much cooler in the low 60s. for the next 7 days the weather looks very nice. right now it looks dry throught the weekend with above normal temperatures. (vicki) uber's self-driving cars... are returning to california streets. the california department of motor vehicles say's it has granted uber permission to run two volvo s-u-v's on public roads. if you remember... last december the self-driving cars were ordered off the road because the company did not have approval from state regulators. after a several-days showdown, uber packed up its cars for arizona. while the self-driving cars can be back on the street, uber says they won't pick up any passengers ... for now. (grant) still ahead... a battle is brewing on capitol hill. president trump warning of a bloodbath... if top house republicans do not repeal and replace obamacare. details on this story - coming up. (vicki) and next, thieves target a home in the east bay - taking several items including world war two memorabilia. find out how police were able to track down the stolen items. (vicki) police in san francisco are asking for your help identifying two men who tried to carjack a mother and her baby... it happened last friday just before 10:30 at night... on florida street in the city's mission district... the mother was parking her car in the apartment complex garage... with her one-year-old baby in the back seat... when she got out of her car... these two suspects approached her...and pointed a gun at her. one of the suspects opened the car door and pulled her baby out of the car seat. the thieves ended up giving the baby back unharmed... but took a back pack and ran off. (grant) police in the east bay were able to track down two suspects - who allegedly stole several sentimental items from a home in concord. officers arrested candace ternes and seyyed mir-holhi - in connnection to the burglary. police say the pair also stole a vehicle from the home. later that same day - officers located the stolen car along with the suspects. investigators say they discovered the suspects had a storage shed in martinez and were able to locate all of the stolen property. "... stolen items" officers say both suspects officers say both suspects are now facing several charges including grant theft auto, burglary, and drug charges. (vicki) fremont police are asking for your help tonight... identifying and locating an armed robbery suspect caught on several surveillance cameras. here's the footage on your screen. you can see the culprit pull out a gun - pointing it at a liquor store clerk...demanding money. police believe the suspect performed a series of armed robberies at liquor stores throughout northern california between mid-october and early- november... the suspect, described as an asian or filipino male in his 20's...around five-eight. often times sporting a orange construction vest. police say he leaves the crime scenes in this 2000's white ford explore x-l-t. (grant) we're getting a scary first-hand view of a fast-moving wildfire in central kansas.(glo) take a look at this dramatic dashcam video... taken from a kansas highway patrol car. troopers were helping divert traffic monday...when the flames literally jumped the road. that's when one brave tropper had to rescue the driver of a semi-truck that got stuck in the interstate's median. that trooper later praised the firefighters who fought the flames.... saying their efforts prevented the wildfire from reaching a densely populated nearby town. (vicki) in addition to the rehearsal and performances - every member of the warriors dance team has either a full- time job or is a full-time student at a local college or university. ( catherine ) the bay area isn't the only place with marches and rallies for international women's day. some of the bigger ones we've seen include the large group in los angeles.... near city hall. and in new york city... women staged a rally not far from trump tower. there were some arrests at that event.. and in washington, d.c. a show of support from members of congress. a group of women wearing red - led by nancy pelosi and barbara lee - converged on the steps outside the capitol building. (catherine) there were several protests in san francisco -- associated with international women's day.... . ( steve ) breaking news right now from the east bay. police are searching near the u-c berkeley campus for a robbery suspect. a short time ago, cal police sent out a tweet telling some students to stay in their dorms. this video from our helicopter partners at a-b-c 7 shows a few of police involved in the manhunt. the suspect is said to be carrying a gun. the area being searched is college avenue, channing way, bowditch and durant. ( steve ) a mudslide triggers a big problem for commuters. this is in marin - on sir francis drake near baywood canyon close on the outskirts of fairfax. early wednesday morning a large chunk gave way and came crashing down on the route. this is actually the fourth time, the hill has collapsed. the road was immediately shut down and during clean up, another problem was exposed. the top of the hill wa also weak, and crews feared another slide was immenient. in response, they decided to take a unique step and actually trigger another slide. the roadway was shut down all day as crews worked. it is unclear when it will re-open.
