Sot arne huddin trapped in slidearne huddin, of capitola, is talking about the huge landslide that came down here on northbound highway 17 Tuesday Morning, slamming into his truck, he says, like a runaway train. Sot arne huddin northbound when the slide hit, huddins truck was picked up like a toy and tossed over the Center Divide and into the southbound lanes. Huddin was trapped for about ten agonizing minutes, as rocks and debris fell around him. By the time people stopped to help he had crawled out on his own, bloodying his hands in the escape. Sot arne huddinthe slide, the same one that crushed a news van last month is now twice as big and as you can see, its still moving. The chp says it might have been worse. Sot troy vincent chpthe northbound lanes will be closed for a least 24 hours. Until caltrans can assess the potential for the earth to keep moving, traffic will share the southbound lanes. This is video from quad copter 4. Both directions of highway 37 are closed between atherton avenue and highway 101. The chp says the water overflow is coming from the nearby novato creek. In East Palo Alto the flooding was so bad. Some residents of a condo complex evacuated their homes. Kron 4s gabe slate in live on the scene. Gabe we understand it was a voluntary evacuation . . . This is the Woodland Creek condominium complex off west Bayshore Road. The city asked the residence here to evacuate early this afternoon. It was voluntary, not manditory they were worried about them being so close to the san fran sis qeet toe creek that was nearing its crest. Lets take a look at that creek. This creek filled so fast today and swept up so much debris, trees, branches, trash it all collected hereso much so they had to immediatley remove the debris so the creek would flow again under the bridge highway 101. This is looking better now but take a look at what it did look like just hours ago branch after branch floated down the san fran qeet toe creek in East Palo Alto until it they could not go any further. Mother nature was making a damn here at west Bayshore Road and the hwy 101 bridge. Taking advantage of the cities trash rack. Assistant city manager Sean Charpentier explains what that is. Sot sean look at how close this creek and the overflowing situation is to highway 101 southbound near the University Exit sot sean they are hustleling to fix this so the creek wont spill over onto 101 and shut it down creating an epic commute nightmare. Some residence stayed thruogh the volutary evacuation others were not taking the chance sot haily behind the complex down the road at the newell road bridge the locals were shocked to see how high the creek got so fast. I ran into len materman who was there to measure the creek, he is with the san fran cis qeet toe joint Powers Authority they issue the local flood watches and warnings. Sot len since 1931 there is a shelter in place at the East Palo Alto ymca at 550 bell street if residence near here are not comfortable being close to the creek. Officials told me the Flood Warning is expected to be lifted any minute now right now the creek is doing ok its not flooding over and they dont expect it to but they will keep a close watch it all depends how much rain and how fast it comes down in next 24 hours. Back to you in the east bay. All that rain has forced a main commute road to close near san ramon. A section of crow canyon road was shutdown for much of the morning and afternoon while crews cleared a mudslide. It just re opened about an hour ago. This area is between Norris Canyon road and Bollinger Canyon road. Heavy equipment like this bulldozer was used. A lot of commuters use this section of crow canyon road to get to and from interstate 680. And a reminder. Here three cars thought they could make it through floodwaters where highway 121 meets route 12 in sonoma. They were wrong and as seen live on kron 4, firefighters had to come to the resuce of one driver who tried to drive through just before 9 in the morning youd think as the day went on road closed signs would make a difference the Hydrogen Fueled mirai. Its only emission is water. Toyota. Lets go places. In the east bay. This mornings storm has left more damage. Including the large tree that came crashing down blocking access to a street in a quiet neighborhood the tree was on the property of a man whos lived there for more than 40years. And it was an emotional moment for him. The oak came down during the storm Tuesday Morning and completely blocked tahoe street. Very fortuitus because if the tree fell in the other direction. It would have taken my house out, that trunk alone is probably 50tons, its probably 2 or 300 years old, it was this big when i moved in here back in the 70smr. Heaps describes the nerve shattering sound of the tree when the tree uprootedi thought a plane had crashed in the back. Then i thought that this big oak tree fell, well anyway, it scared the hell out of meit shocked his neighbors too. This is the view they have of the tree from the other side of tahoe street well i am just glad that nobody was hurt, hopefully nobodys car was under it at the time, we lost power for a few hours but that wasnt too bad but this is just quite sad, there is a lot of history therenobody knows that more then mr. In marin county, several districts canceled classes today because of flooding. Kron fours Spencer Blake has been looking at the water levels near several schools. Hes live in larkspur. Spencer, how many schools were closed today . More like how many districts. Almost ten districts canceled classes, plus about another dozen or so private schools. Check out the water on the softball fields here at redwood high in larkspur. Water up to the bleachers marin public works sent out this video of Corte Madera Creek this morning. Look how fast and deep that water was going. It has since receded, but it was high enough to cancel classes at Kent Middle School in larkspur. Some kids who had a surprise day off ended up at school, anyway, playing basketball just yards from where the creek had earlier in the day. It was on snapchat. I just saw a few people like video taping it from over here. It was getting like really high from the tippy top. More video of redwood high. I spoke to the marin county superintendent of schools. She says tomorrow looks good for classes as usual, but the countys office of Emergency Services says athursday might present more flooding problems. The county will have a Conference Call with all of their schools tomorrow look ahead and make plans for thursday. Live in larkspur, Spencer Blake, kron four news. The Stormy Weather shut down several roads in napa county today because of mudslides. One of them covers several hundred feet along redwood road about two miles outside the city of napa. County workers say this particular slide happened around 4 this morning. No one was injured but roughly a thousand customers were left without power. It could take a few days to clean everything up. Farther north in saint helena. A large pine tree fell bringing down a power line with it. It happened in the area of silverado trail near pope street. Crews are working to remove the tree. Several roads were also closed through the morning because of flooding. Some of them including big ranch road at oak knoll avenue reopened by early afternoon. Happening now. Highway 84 in woodside is a trouble spot. This video shows a rockslide that closed the westbound lane of the section east of highway 35. As you can see some really big boulders came down on top of the roadway, as well as a lot of mud. The eastbound lane of that same stretch has already been closed for the last few weeks because the ground beneath the road is compromised because of all of this rain. Caltrans says one lane could be reopened tomorrow afternoon. But caltrans cant guarantee it because there are other weather related problems in that same general area. There are multiple spots where trees and rocks have come down, we are trying to get the eastbound lanes open so at least the locals can get in or out but its not a safe stretch of roadway right now this is a caltrans photo that shows how both lanes were closed at another spot on highway 84, this time its awesta of highway 35. After a power pole came down. Were being told that pg e has responded to this location, and they should have the pole fixed and the power restored by 7 00 tonight. Tme for check on weather. This past friday, a federal judge in seattle signed a temporary restraining order blocking the ban. Washington state and minnesota which filed the lawsuit. Claim the order is unconstitutional and is intended to discriminate against muslims. If the three judge panel rules in favor of keeping the order on hold. The case will likely be taken up by the supreme court. It took an unprecedented move to make it happen. But betsy devos has been confirmed as the new education secretary.
