( james ) breaking news this morning.. one man was killed and another was injured in a shooting thursday night in san jose. it happened just after 9:30 on the 300 block of east taylor street, police said. and reports now suggest the two who were shot could be off duty firefighters. investigators believe the gunman fled on foot. kron 4 reporters lydia pantazas and terisa estacio are both headed to the scene...we'll have a live report as soon as they get there. ( james ) the bay area fast food worker who is now out of a job after attending the alt right rally in charlottesville denies that he is a white supermacist. in a statement cole white says while there were people with those beliefs there he and many others were there to stand for freedom of speech. white showed kron four some cuts on his elbow that he says were from being attacked by a razor by a counter protestor. he says he didn't leave the event for his own safety because he felt the other attendees of the rally would protect him. the berkeley hot dog chain 'top dog" says white voluntarily resigned after his participation in the rally was made public. (robin) president trump tweeted "sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments." trump also argued taking down confederate statues would lead to the removal of other monuments. (robin) all this comes after a white supremacist rally in charlottesville virgina turned deadly. the hateful demonstration began as a protest against the removal of a confederate statue there. ( james ) a counter protester was killed and many others were hurt. in his latest statement president trump blamed 'both sides' for the violence. something that has been widely criticized by democrats and many republicans in congress. and now the pushback against president trump and hate continues. take a look at the magazine covers for the new yorker the economist and time magazine. images of k-k-k hoods and a nazi salute front and center. ( james ) and in silver and black news... a raiders player is facing two felony charges. investigators say cornerback sean smith assaulted his sister's boyfriend in los angeles county. the alleged assault happened on july fourth. he is scheduled to be in court next month. if convicted smith could face up to seven years in prison this isn't his first run-in with the law. smith pleaded guilty to a d-u-i charge in 20-15. for that, he was sentenced to two years probation. (robin) we are now learning more about the two young children killed in a car crash in east oakland. the alameda county cororner's office has identified the boys as 6-year-old ezequias lopez and 11-year-old nixon lopez. it happened near the intersection of 55th avenue and international boulevard. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with a witness to the crash who now has to live with the disturbing images of those children losing their lives. (philippe) the impact was so horrific... sandra jefferson says the collision sent this blue chevrolet h-h-r flying into the air, landing on a trash bin.sandra jefferson/witness- "right here in the driveway of the taco, taqueria." jefferson says she had just parked near the food truck and made her order when she saw the two cars slam into each other. and, after the initial shock wore off... she says she and other witnesses were devestated to learn two kids were in the chevrolet. six-year-old ezequias lopez and 11-year-old nixon lopez. sandra jefferson/witness- "its really sad. i went to work today -- i didn't get any sleep. i told my boss about what happened and he just told me to take off and go home. i can't concentrate on anything. i keep thinking about those poor kids." paramedics did all they could to save the six and 11-year-olds... but by the time the kids were rushed to children's hospital... they were pronounced dead. marco marquez/opd- "last night's accident was a tragedy." oakland police officer marco marquez says the crash was first reported at around 8-30 wednesday night. he says a crysler 300 was headed westbound on international bouleveard... and, crashed into the chevrolet as it traveled east on international and tried turning onto 55th.marco marquez/opd- "alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this collision." officer marquez says it's unclear, at this time, what caused the crash or who is at fault. both drivers were taken to hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. the food truck parking lot was shutdown for several hours overnight, so sandra jefferson had to wait until the late morning to come back and get her car... she says unfortuantely, it'll be impossible to erase the memory of seeing one of the boys who passed away.sandra jefferson/witness- "it was just really hard to see them pull him out. i mean, he was lifeless when they pulled him out of the car. he was out of it completely." jefferson hopes this crash may lead to the addition of a stop light or sign in the area... in oakland, philippe djegal, kron four news. ( james ) new safety rules are in the works for truckers along highway 17 in the south bay and throughout california. backers of a new regulation to be called "daniel's law" expect the legislation to be signed by governor brown later this year. the law is named after daniel mcguire of santa cruz. he was killed in july of 2014 when a big rig slammed into his and several other cars... the new law will require big rig drivers to get more training before they get behind the wheel. authorities say the driver of that big rig back in 2014 was unqualified to operate it. admission, he didn't know how to use his brakes, he had no idea how to manage an 80,000 pound rig....">( james ) daniel's law would, among other things, require that all big rig drivers have at least 30 hours of training behind the wheel before they hit the road. daniel mcguire's parents were recently awarded a nearly 10 million dollar settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit. (robin) three people are in custody accused of killing a man while he was walking with his infant baby last month in hayward. the suspects are pablo men-doza, brandon fo-llings and valerie boden authorities say the three suspects drove up to daniel del-toro and gunned him down. the vicitm was walking his three month old son in a stroller at the time of the shooting. all three suspects are facing murder charges. ( james @ lanidng) a police shooting in livermore has left one man dead. it started just before nine at a home on via deste near montecito circle. we first brought you this story yesterday morning. police received multiple calls about a man acting strangly and challenging people to fight. when officers arrived, the man refused to obey their orders and went inside the home-- and grabbed a gun. authorities say the man began making suicidal comments and several shots were fired in the home. police had been negotiating for hours when they noticed a fire breakout inside the home. a short time later the man came out of the house pointing a gun at police. that's when officers opened fire. ( james ) the man was pronounced dead at the scene. one of the man's friend's watched the incident in shock. else was injured. the names of the person killed and the officers involved have not been released. ( james ) the woman at the center of the oakland police sex scandal is now suing the richmond police department. a lawyer for jasmine abuslin confirmed the lawsuit to kron 4 late last night. earlier this year... abuslin, formerly known as celeste guap... reached a nearly one million dollar settlement with the city of oakland. several officers from multiple law enforcement agencies are accused of having sex with abuslin... in some cases before she was 18. teh new lawsuit is filed against the city of richmond... 2 different police chiefs and 4 other officers. her lawyer did not release any other details. ( james ) after a near ( james ) ( james ) after a near collision at san francisco's international airport the f-a-a is now imposing new rules at the airport. the new procedures apply to nighttime landings and control-tower staffing at s-f-o. pilots now must use instrument landing systems or satellite-based systems to line up for the correct runway. they will no longer be able to make so-called visual approaches to land. in addition two air traffic controllers must be in the tower during busy late-night periods. (robin) bart police -are offering a ten-thousand dollar hiring bonus to attract new officers. in recent weeks, the police chief has said the force is woefully understaffed. and needs lots of new officers to fight crime on the transit system. the details came out yesterday during a job fair at a-t-and-t park in san francisco. (robin) the goal is to add about 40 officers over the next 18 months. ( james ) the teenagers who filmed themselves climbing the golden gate bridge are being charged with misdemeanor trespassing. and climbing on a toll bridge. peter kurer and thomas rector of wisconsin posted the video to social media last april. in the video the teens are doing flips and somersaults on the bridge. they are even hanging off the bridge from their fingertips without safety gear. climbing the golden gate bridge can land you up to one year in jail. the teens are scheduled to be in court in september. security measure on the golden gate bridge have been revised since the stunt. (robin) the man connected to the brutal death of a woman outside a solano county mall last year has made a court apperance. rowena shaddox is tracking the latest developments. 21-year-old william king will spend the rest of his life in prison, for bludgeoning to death 63-year-old cheryl sherwood, and striking christine jones in the head with a hammer more than a dozen times.christine survived. jones, a former safeway employee, was attacked outside wells fargo in vallejo february 2nd, last year.a day after, king killed sherwood in the macyús parking lot at the solano town center. itús the reason, the da decided to prosecute the case herself.king pleaded no contest and avoided being sentenced to death. but she says after working alongside both families, they opted to have king spend the rest of his days behind bars, giving them a sense of closure. for both families, justice has been served.ááástop sotááá remembering cheryl who dedicated her life as a registered nurse for for 35 years, and whose wish to donate her organs was granted. after several family members and friends read heartfelt statements to king, he had the chance to address them....he told them he was sorry for what he had done and how he hated himself for it.ááástop sotááá (robin) family members of the victim say, they forgive king, but they hate the evil action he has done. ( mark ) new safety rules are in the works for truck drivers throughout california. backers of a new bill called "daniel's law" expect the legislation to be signed by governor brown later this year. the law is named after daniel mcguire of santa cruz. he was killed in july of 2014 when a big rig slammed into his and several other cars on highway 17. the new law will require big rig drivers to get more training before they get behind the wheel. police say the driver of that big rig back in 2014 was unqualified to ( mark ) daniel's law would require that all big rig drivers have at least 30 hours of training behind the wheel before they hit the road. daniel mcguire's parents were recently awarded a nearly 10 million dollar settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit. ( darya ) the alameda county coroner's office has identified the two boys killed in a car crash in east oakland. we first broke this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. six-year-old ezequias lopez and 11-year-old nixon lopez died at children's hospital oakland. the crash happened wednesday night at the intersection of 55th avenue and international boulevard. ( darya ) both drivers survived the crash. they are in serious condition this morning. ( mark ) bart police are offering a ten-thousand dollar hiring bonus to attract new officers. in recent weeks the police chief has said the police force is understaffed. he says bart needs dozens more new officers to fight crime on the transit system. only on the platforms but on the trains and in the parking lots. one of the big efforts accomplishing that is going to be getting up to full staffing.">( mark ) police say the goal is to add about 40 officers over the next 18 months. ( darya ) the teenagers who filmed themselves climbing the golden gate bridge are being charged with misdemeanor trespassing. peter kurer and thomas rector of wisconsin posted the video to social media last april. in the video the teens are doing flips and somersaults on the bridge. they are even hanging off the bridge from their fingertips without safety gear. climbing the golden gate bridge can land you up to one year in jail. the teens are scheduled to be in court in september. security measures on the golden gate bridge have been revised since the stunt. (mark) good samaritans in fairfield save an elderly couple just moments before a train slammed into their car. this is video of the fire that broke out after the crash wednesday night. the man and his wife got stuck on the train tracks when they thought it was a roadway. two good samaritans saw what happened and ran to help. they were able to help the couple get out of their car before the train crashed into their car. (james)after a cool start with upper 50s and low 60s around the bay, we're on track for more gradual warming today. mostly sunny skies this afternoon will bring a day of warm temperatures for the inland valleys. look for upper 80s and low 90s there. along the bay shoreline, temperatures will climb to the mid and upper 70s. coastal communities will enjoy mid 60s. temps will hold steady through saturday, before falling (darya) a police officer in sacramento is accused of throwing a pregnant woman to the ground. police just released this body camera footage from the incident back in july. the woman was seven months pregnant at the time. police were chasing a violent felon, who they thought went into the woman's home. police say the pregnant woman blocked them from trying to get inside. police say an officer grabbed her arm to get her out of the way. she says she was tossed to the ground. (darya) the woman says she is confused why there is no straight view of her hitting the ground. she says she took the badge numbers of at least seven officers on scene. none of the officers involved in the incident were placed on leave. (darya) the state's attorney general says 157 people died during encounters with police in california last year. this is the first time the state has publicly released statistics on police use of force. there were 782 incidents in 20-16 where a poilce officer used force that resulted in serious injury or death. 42-percent of civilians involved were hispanic and nearly 20-percent were black. a state law requires california police departments to report the data to the state attorney general's office. ( mark ) new safety rules are in the works for truck drivers throughout california. backers of a new bill called "daniel's law" expect the legislation to be signed by governor brown later this year. the law is named after daniel mcguire of santa cruz. he was killed in july of 2014 when a big rig slammed into his and several other cars on highway 17. the new law will require big rig drivers to get more training before they get behind the wheel. police say the driver of that big rig back in 2014 was unqualified to operate it. ( mark ) daniel's law would require that all big rig drivers have at least 30 hours of training behind the wheel before they hit the road. daniel mcguire's parents were recently awarded a nearly 10 million dollar settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit. (mark) three people are in jail accused of killing a man while he was walking with his baby last month in hayward. pablo mendoza, brandon follings and valerie boden have been arrested and charged with murder. police say the three men drove up to daniel deltoro and killed him. the victim was walking his three month old son in a stroller at the time of the shooting. police say the shooting may have been gang-related. ( darya ) just weeks before the start of the regular season and a raiders player is under arrest... facing two felony charges. investigators say cornerback sean smith assaulted his sister's boyfriend in pasadena the alleged assault happened on july fourth. he is scheduled to be in court next month. if convicted smith could face up to seven years in prison. this isn't his first run-in with the law. smith pleaded guilty to a d-u-i charge in 20- 15. he was sentenced to two years probation. (darya) after a near collision at san francisco's international airport, the f-a- a is now imposing new rules at the airport. the new procedures apply to nighttime landings and control-tower staffing at s-f-o. pilots now must use instrument landing systems or satellite-based systems to line up for the correct runway. they will no longer be able to make so-called visual approaches to land. plus two air traffic controllers must be in the tower during busy late-night periods. these new rules come after an air canada flight nearly landed on the taxi way and almost collided with four other planes. ( darya ) back here in the bay area, the man convicted of a brutal murder outside a solano county mall will spend the rest of his life in prison. 21-year-old william king was sentenced yesterday for bludgeoning cheryl sherwood to death. the murder happened in february of last year. king pleaded no contest and avoided being sentenced to death. after several family members read statements to king in court... he told them he was sorry for what he had done. ( darya ) this morning more bay area republicans are standing behind president trump after his controversial comments on the violence in charlottesville. about 300 republicans gathered in san francisco last night for the annual lincoln-reagan dinner. we asked about the president's recent comments that both sides are to blame for the violence at a white supremacist rally in virginia. ( darya ) most of the discussion at last night's dinner were about foreign policy and small business regulations. ( mark ) and opposition is growing against a right-wing rally that is scheduled for later this month in san francisco. now the anti defamation league is cautioning people against possible counter protests. they say that the group "patriot prayer"... who is behind the planned rally at crissy field... is not like the group that marched in charlottesville, virginia over the weekend. the anti defamation league says that the patriot prayer group actually tends to reject white supremacy. but they are still offering advice for possible counter protesters.
