(tiffany) our top story this morning... a mother says goodbye to her son after he is beaten to death near lake merrit in oakland.( james ) the attack happened last sunday. and whoever did it is still on the loose. kron4's hermela aregawi spoke to the victim's mother who is demanding answers. a devestating loss.linda sturdivant lost her daughter six years ago and says her son was all she had left.linda sturdivant/victim's mother: i'm not going to be moving forward for a long time. i'm broken. i'm broken. i'm shattered. i'm completely shattered. police say 45 year old anthony owens was beaten to death last sunday on the 200 block of grand avenue in oakland.they say the suspect fled after a person driving by the attack honked their horn.owens was taken to highland hospital where he died of his injuries the next morning.linda sturdivant/victim's mother:he was a peaceful maker. he was a peacemaker. he was kind. he was smart. everybody knows him from bookstores and libraries. at the time of his death, sturdivant says owens had started learning computer programming.linda sturdivant/victim's mother:we were emailing back and forth and i got to tell him that i loved him and i sent him a poem and it was about that god to watch over him and help him make the right choices and take care of him and watch over him and i told him how proud i wassturdivant says she is proud yet again.owens who was a registered donor was able to donate his liver and kidney.. and gave his lungs to researchers.(hermela aregawi) police don't have a motive for this attack.crime stoppers is offering 10-thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.if you know anything that could help police, you're asked to call them at 510-238-3821reporting in point reyes, hemela aregawi, kron 4 news. ( james ) in the north bay... the marin county coroner has confirmed that a body found in tomales bay is that of charles "tod" friend, the owner of tomales bay oyster company. friend's body was brought to marconi point around 2 p.m. saturday after it was found floating in the bay. friend was found by a group of people who continued to look for him after a multi-agency search was suspended wednesday. investigators believe friend was not wearing a life vest and fell off his boat. ( james ) another big story we are following this morning... family and victim's advocates fear for a teenager with special needs. larissa oliver has been missing for more than a month now. kron 4's ella sogomonian has details on the search. 15-year-old larissa oliver is missing. the special needs student hasn't been seen in six weeks. (nats: where is larissa oliver) her east bay family has asked that two local non profits help in the search hosting rallies and posting fliers around oakland and hayward.sot: daryle allums, adamika village founder// "this is the longest she's ever been missing and we're scared for her life. we're scared she may be kidnapped or human trafficked or something like that we don't know where she is right now."larissa's aunt says the girl walked out of the hayward assessment center where she was in custody of the alameda county child protective services and hasn't been seen since either june 9th or 10th. sot: theresa russell, richmond street angels founder// "i'm really scared that she has been shipped for human trafficking or worse. i don't know that's really scary."goes by "rissa".she is 5 foot 2, around 105 pounds. in hayward ella sogomonian kron 4 news. (tiffany) in the south bay... two people were seriously hurt in a chain reaction crash on highway 280 in san jose. five cars were involved in the pile-up just after midnight last night north of mclaughlin. the chp reports it started when one car hit a wall. people who got out of their car to help also were hit with car parts. when emergency teams arrived they found people scattered across the highway. four people were hurt. two of them taken to the hospital in life threatening condition. south bay are working to put out a brush fire in gilroy. so far the fire has burned 150 acres and is now 50- percent contained. you're looking at videos and pictures sent to us from kron4 viewers. the fire was reported just after four p-m near the intersection of castro valley road and highway 101 near gavilan college. fire officials do not expect the fire to get much bigger. no structures are at risk and no one is injured. ( james ) in benicia... police arrest a 21-year-old man in connection with the rape of an underage victim. officers believe brandon jacobs met the victim a 15- year-old girl while he was serving as a youth volunteer at a local church. on friday police located jacobs while he was trying to meet up with the girl. he was taken into custody and booked into the solano county jail. ( james ) in oakland, police are investigating a rape case involving seven suspects. the attack happened around 10 friday night on 83rd avenue near the new highland academy elementary school. the victim was taken to a hospital. police are still looking for the seven suspects. ( james ) the city by the bay turned into a racing course for the 40th san francisco marathon. almost 28-thousand runners took part and race officials say that's the largest group of runners in race history. 80-thousand people also came out to watch. the largest crowd in the race's history. 39-year-old jorge maraville of mill valley won the men's marathon with a time of 2- hours, 28-minutes and 23- seconds. he is the general manager at the san francisco running company. and for the women's marathon 25-year-old devin mcmahon won with a time of 2-hours, 52- minutes, and 49-seconds. she is a ph-d student at stanford university. each winner also won a trip to paris. the marathon also raised over 300- thousand dollars for charity. (tiffany) as cory james tells us fire crews met with people from the affected areas to provide updates on the fire that has been burning for almost a week. bottled waters were passed out and fans were moving inside the warm auditorium at mariposa high school.but the lack of air did not bother these residents.they were here for a community meeting to learn more about the devastating detwiler fire that stormed through their town. natson this projector screen, cal fire had detailed maps up pinpointing areas in the clear... and areas that still need more work. suzette prue/resident:"i thought it was very informative."suzette prue lives in morman hills. she says in her lifetime, a wildfire here has never gotten this bad. suzette prue/resident:"i lived here during the telegraph fire but this is double the size of the telegraph fire, and this is huge. this is one for the record books" so far the fast moving blaze is now 40-percent contained. and it has burned more than 75-thousand acres. leaving many people like this woman...natsreturning to nothing but rubble and debris where her home once sat. the raging blaze is responsible for destroying 60 homes and 63 other structures. but nancy koerperich (koper-ich), cal fire's unit chief for mariposa says it could have been a lot worse... if it were not for the 500 thousand gallons of retardant dropped in one day and defensible space that many neighbors created. nancy koerperich/cal fire:"it was a very big help because the fire burned right up to their homes but because they had great defensible space around it, it was able to lay down so fire fighters could get in there and knock that stuff down."and terry selk is grateful for the work the more than 45-hundred fighters have been putting in. because he says it has saved not only homes... but also lives. terry selk/resident: "without them coming from all over the state putting their lives on the line, saving our towns, saving our homes. i mean, without that resource we would not be standing here." (tiffany) p-g and e crews say they've restored power to roughly nine thousand people since the fire first started. ( james ) in national news... nine bodies were found in an overheated tractor- trailer in a san antonio walmart parking lot. 17 others are in life-threatening condition. some survivors told officials they crossed the border by foot at laredo, texas. now the u-s attorney's office is holding 60-year-old james bradley junior of clearwater, florida in connection with the case. rick damigella has more on what is being called a "horrific" human trafficking crime. "we're looking at a human trafficking crime here."a horrific tragedy involving undocumented immigrants was discovered at a san antonio walmart early sunday. police say they received a call from a store employee to conduct a welfare check on a tractor- trailer parked on the premises. the employee contacted authorities after a man inside the trailer asked for water, police said.once emergency crews arrived on scene, they found several people dead inside the sweltering 18-wheeler ... and more than two dozen others in distress.some of the victims taken to area hospitals are as young as 15-years old. officials said the high temperature in san antonio was 100 degrees and the air conditioner in the trailer was not working..fire chief charles hood / san antonio fire dept.: "our paramedics and firefighters found that each one of them had heart rates over about 130 beats per minute, which, again, they were very hot to the touch. so, these people were in that trailer without any signs of any type of water. so, you're looking at a lot of heatstroke, a lot of dehydration."police are reviewing store surveillance footage .. and have also searched the area with helicopters after some people reportedly ran off in the woods or were picked up by other drivers. chief william mcmanus / san antonio police dept.: "we found that there were a number of vehicles that came in and picked up a lot of the folks that were in that trailer that survived the trip." the driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested and will be facing state and federal charges. i'm rick damigella reporting. (tiffany) police say a six-year-old boy in milwaukee wisconsin has died after he was shot. police haven't released many details yet. but say that boy was outside on the street when he was killed saturday night. some of the six-year-old's relatives are speaking out. they say they are in total disbelief with what happened. little nephew. i love him. and i just want the community to know to stop all this black on black crime.">(tiffany) an autopsy is scheduled this week. so far, police have not made any arrests. ( james ) that is irene rosen. she was sitting outside her florida home with her 99-year-old husband, louis, when they were apporached by a man saying he was staying at a home nearby and asked for salt to cook with. irene says that's when the man pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded 50- thousand dollars. police say it was this man leonard benitez who took the couple hostage. the couple didn't want to elaborate on all of what happened but say they were held hostage for hours irene-- who is much more mobile than her husband was eventually able to run out of the house to get help. "that was the only time. i was frantic. i was all the way down the block and i was worried about him."( james ) a swat team finally was able to take benitez into custody. at some point, louis was pistol-whipped in the head. the 99-year-old was left with staples in his head, but alive. (tiffany) law enforcement may soon have a new tool to use in their fight against the national opiod crisis. the state of new jersey is considering giving police and law enforcement officials access to its prescription drug monitoring database without a court order. senator robert singer introduced the legislation last week. singer says the it will help officials target physicians who are illigally prescribing drugs. the legislation faces powerfull opponents. most notably governor chris christie who site privacy concerns. states across the country are grappling with how much leeway to give officials when it comes to examining the databases. (tiffany) doctors in london are receiving death threats over their care for a dying 11-month old baby. the baby is charlie gard who has a rare genetic condition and suffers from brain damage. an e-u court has allowed the hospital to discontinue charlie's life support. but his parents want to bring him to the u-s for an experimental therapy that's never been used in cases like charlie's. a trial involving charlie's case is set to get under way on tuesday. (tiffany) happening today... president trump's son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner says that he only had four contacts with russians during the campaign and that none of them were improper. kushner also says he never colluded with any foreign government during the presidential campaign. kushner released a statement earlier this morning ahead of his meeting with a senate committee investigating russia's meddling in the 2016 election. the meeting with the senators will be held behind closed doors. he's likely to be asked about a meeting he attended last year with donald trump junior, and former trump campaign chair paul manafort. that meeting was held on the premise that a russian attorney had damaging information on hillary clinton. tomorrow he'll talk privately to members of the house intelligence committee. ( james ) the new white house communications chief anthony scaramucci has pledged to begin "an era of a new good feeling" while also cracking down on leaks. he hit the sunday morning talk show circuit to address the russian hacking scandal.(tiffany) scaramucci says that president trump still does not accept the intelligence community's conclusion that russia attempted to influence the 2016 election. the remarks come as a special counsel continues to investigate contacts between russians and the trump campaign. hey, this is you know - maybe they did it, maybe they didn't do it.">(tiffany) in the same interview scaramucci's comments regarding white house press secertary sarah huckabee sanders gained quite a bit of negative attention online after he referenced her looks. experts say gun silencers - or suppressors -- typically reduce the sound of a gunshot by about 30 decibels. but in order to get one, the government imposes a $200 dollar fee and requires a buyer to submit fingerprints and be photographed. there's also a waiting period that can last more than nine months. alabama congressman mo brooks wants to change that. rep. mo brooks, r-al:"this is a way to protect the hearing of those people who use weapons on a periodic basis."brooks is cosponsor of legislation doing away with the restrictions. its been met with fierce opposition from gun safety groups. jeffrey twigg, vt mass shooting survivor: "the first thing we heard was the gunshots." jeffery twigg is a survivor of the shooting massacre at virginia tech ten years ago. as the attacker bore down on his classroom -- twigg jumped from a second story window breaking his leg in two places. jeffrey twigg, vt mass shooting survivor "without being able to hear the incredible volume of the gunfire i probably wouldnt have jumped and i would have been killed."a committee meeting on the issue was scheduled for june 14th but it was cancelled when a gunman attacked a congressional baseball practice. drew petrimoulx, reporting:the legislation being considered by the house natural resources committee as part of broad plan to expand hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting. but so far the hearing is not rescheduled. rep. mo brooks, r-al:"there are always pros and cons it seems like to everything we do, and the key is to find a proper balance." brooks says there's no evidence that more silencers means more violence. but opponents of making them easier to get say they worry it will make mass shootings more lethal. in washington, im drew petrimoulx (tiffany) a federal judge is refusing to reinstate president trump's sanctuary cities order. the ruling came down last week. the executive order would have cut funding from cities that do not cooperate with immigration officials. the department of justice had asked the judge to reverse his previous decision blocking president trump's order. it was first blocked after lawsuits were filed by san francisco and santa clara county. attorney general jeff sessions released a memo saying the executive order only applies to a small amount of money. but the judge says sessions could reverse himself, so for now the executive order remains blocked. (v.o.track suggested.a mystery brew master scott ungerman thinks he has a clue.(sot) scott ungerman."as it cooled in our cool san francisco air it would have plumes of steam coming off the building in san francisco so you look over there and what's that steam coming off the building. well that's the steam brewery. scott ungerman, brew master "nobody makes steam beer in open fermentation the way that we do, 45 it's unique it's what sets our beer apart and makes it special is the way we ferment"fritz maytag took over anchor steam in the 1960's when the company was down in the dumps. he was sort of modern day paul revere. maytag committed to a new approach with a radical brew called liberty ale. scott ungerman, brewmaster " fritz was the first to do so many things, he was the first to bring back "dry hopping" if you take a look at that one thing dry hopping liberty ale back in 1975, it's fitting that liberty ale is the brew that started a revolution there were just a handful of craft breweries in 1975, today there are over 5000. each requires a costly hands on approach but here at anchor steam the result is a local taste worth the price. scott ungerman, brewmaster "are there ways to automate that, sure, but would we want to, no, because this is the way we make beer, and we make beer this beer is made by people for the people of san francisco of san francisco" ( james ) the united states drinks more beer than any country except for china. 24 billion liters last year and 7% of that was craft beer like anchor steam. ( mark ) and crews in mariposa county are making progress battling the detwiler fire. this fire is burning near yosemite national park. it is now 45 percent contained. it has burned more than 76-thousand acres. more than 60 homes have been destroyed along with nearly 70 other buildings. more than a dozen other homes have been damaged. some of the evacuation orders have been lifted but 15-hundred homes are still threatened this morning. ( darya ) three people rob and try to kidnap a woman in the east bay and the attackers are still on the loose. this happened friday in east oakland but police just now releasing the details. it happened near the intersection of 62nd and harmon avenues. police say three people used a gun and a knife to threaten the woman. they stole her purse and jewelry. police have not released any descriptions of the attackers. ( darya ) police in oakland are also looking for at least 7 people involved in a rape near an elementary school. police just releasing the information about the attack. it happened friday night on 83rd avenue near the new highland academy elementary school. the victim was taken to the hospital. there is no description of the attackers this morning. ( mark ) happening now... hayward police are searching for a teenager with special needs who has been missing for over a month. 15-year-old larissa oliver was last seen on june tenth. larissa's aunt says she has a mental disability that interferes with her ability to care for herself. she was last scene walking out of the hayward assessment center where she was in custody at the alameda county child protective services. family members say she is known to walk off from time to time, but has never gone missing for long periods of time. is right now."theresa russell, richmond street angels founder// "i'm really scared that she has been shipped for human trafficking or worse. i don't know that's really scary.">( mark ) larissa is about five foot-two inches, weighs about 105 pounds and has long extension braids. ( darya ) a body pulled from tamales bay is identified as charles friend. he is the owner of the tomales bay oyster company. friend was reported missing last tuesday. authorities conducted an intensive search before suspending it wednesday. a group of his friends continued looking and located his body saturday afternoon. investigators identified the body yesterday. he was not wearing a life vest when he fell off his boat. ( mark ) at least nine people are dead and 30 others are in serious condition after they were found in the back of a big rig in texas. tiffany mcelroy is following the latest from the breaking news desk. tiffany. (tiffany) two of the victims in the hospital are said to be just 15 years old. federal investigators are calling this a human trafficking crime. the driver of that big rig is expected to be in court today. police were called to the san antonio walmart lot sunday morning where the trailer was parked found eight bodies and 30 undocumented immigrants severely injured from overheating inside. the victims were found stuffed in the back of a truck parked in a san antonio wal-mart parking lot. the temperature rose above 100-degrees and the air conditioning in the truck wasn't working. investigators say more than 100 undocumented immigrants may have been in that truck at one point in time. a walmart employee alerted authorities to the tragedy after a man who was in the trailer asked for water. the employee brought water for the man, then called police and asked them to conduct a welfare check ( tiffany ) the truck driver was identified as james bradley junior of florida. he was arrested and police say he will face state and federal charges. last year more than 15-hundred people were convicted in connection to human smuggling operations. back to you in the studio. . ( darya ) president trump's son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner says that he only had four contacts with russians during the campaign and that none of them were improper. kushner also says he never colluded with any foreign government during the presidential campaign. kushner released a statement earlier this morning ahead of his meeting with a senate committee investigating russia's meddling in the 2016 election. the meeting with the senators will be held behind closed doors. he's likely to be asked about a meeting he attended last year with donald trump junior, and former trump campaign chair paul manafort. that meeting was held on the premise that a russian attorney had damaging information on hillary clinton. tomorrow he'll talk privately to members of the house intelligence committee. ( darya ) two people are seriously hurt in a chain reaction crash on interstate 280 in san jose. 5 cars were involved in the pile-up yesterday morning. it happened just north of mclaughlin avenue. the c-h-p says one car hit a wall before being hit by another car. then there were 3 other cars that hit those cars. two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. the chp is trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the crash. ( darya ) a mother is looking for answers after her son is beaten to death near lake merritt in oakland.( mark ) the killer is still on the loose this morning. kron4's hermela aregawi has the latest. a devestating loss.linda sturdivant lost her daughter six years ago and says her son was all she had left. linda sturdivant/victim's mother: i'm not going to be moving forward for a long time. i'm broken. i'm broken. i'm shattered. i'm completely shattered. police say 45 year old anthony owens was beaten to death last sunday on the 200 block of grand avenue in oakland.they say the suspect fled after a person driving by the attack honked their horn. owens was taken to highland hospital where he died of his injuries the next morning. linda sturdivant/victim's mother: he was a peaceful maker. he was a peacemaker. he was kind. he was smart. everybody knows him from bookstores and libraries. at the time of his death, sturdivant says owens had started learning computer programming.linda sturdivant/victim's mother:we were emailing back and forth and i got to tell him that i loved him and i sent him a poem and it was about that god to watch over him and help him make the right choices and take care of him and watch over him and i told him how proud i wassturdivant says she is proud yet again.owens who was a registered donor was able to donate his liver and kidney.. and gave his lungs to researchers.(hermela aregawi) police don't have a motive for this attack.crime stoppers is offering 10-thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.if you know anything that could help police, you're asked to call them at 510-238-3821reporting in point reyes, hemela aregawi, kron 4 news. ( mark ) police in benicia arrest a man in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl. police say brandon jacobs met the victim... a 15- year-old girl...as he was serving as a youth volunteer at a local church. police located jacobs while he was trying to meet up with the girl. he was taken into custody and booked into the solano county jail. ( mark ) berkeley police have made an arrest for an attack that happened just two blocks from the cal campus. the attack happened early saturday morning. a woman was walking in the area of telegraph avenue and channing way when a man approached her. police say the man then cornered her and groped her. she notified a cal police officer . the man was located nearby. he has been turned over to the berkeley police department, ( darya ) firefighters are making progress battling the whittier fire burning near oroville. that fire is now 87% contained. it has now burned more than 18-thousand acres. more than 45 buildings have been destroyed at least 15 of those were homes. firefighters are still trying to figure out how this fire started. ( darya ) the white house says that president trump will sign new sanctions against russia if they are passed by the house of representatives later this week. the new bill would require president trump to get permission from congress before lifting the economic penalties against moscow. the bill could be sent to president trump before congress breaks for the august recess. the legislation is aimed at punishing moscow for meddling in the presidential election and it's military aggression in ukraine and syria. ( mark ) there is a warning about a potentially rabid squirrel running rampant in a park in new york. it's happening at prospect park in brooklyn. five people were attacked and bitten by a squirrel between tuesday and thursday last week. the new york city health department is now telling anybody who may have been bitten over the past few weeks to get checked by a doctor immediately. people who visit the park say they aren't surprised a squirrel is attacking. ( darya ) the london hospital where baby charlie gard is being treated for a rare genetic disorder has been receiving death threats.(ááátake boxesááá) the 11-month-old has been at the center of a world-wide debate. his parents have been trying to bring him to the u-s for experimental treatment but a london court has allowed the hospital to stop charlie's life support. the hospital says it has exhausted all its resources and the experimental treatment would not help charlie. another hearing in his case will be held tomorrow. ( mark ) a 99-year-old man and his wife are held hostage in their own home. police say this man approached the couple as they were sitting on the porch of their home in florida. he asked the couple if he could borrow some salt to cook with. that is when he pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded 50-thousand dollars. the couple says they were held hostage for hours. eventually the man's wife says she was able to get out of the house and go get help. ( mark ) the woman says that the attacker pistol whipped her husband and doctors had to put staples in his head. he is expected to be okay. a swat team was eventually able to take the attacker into custody. ( darya ) a handcuffed man escapes from a police station and jumps into the san diego bay. take a look at this... it happened yesterday. the 42-year-old man was originally arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. he made it a mile and a half from the station before jumping into the water. police later arrested the man and say he will likely face additional charges. ( mark ) the issue of gun silencers is expected to spur heated debate in washington. ( darya ) three people rob and try to kidnap a woman in the east bay and the attackers are still on the loose. this happened friday in east oakland but police just now releasing the details. it happened near the intersection of 62nd and harmon avenues. police say three people used a gun and a knife to threaten the woman. they stole her purse and jewelry. police have not released any descriptions of the attackers. ( darya ) police in oakland are also looking for at least 7 people involved in a rape near an elementary school. police just releasing the information about the attack. it happened friday night on 83rd avenue near the new highland academy elementary school. the victim was taken to the hospital. there is no description of the attackers this morning. ( mark ) crews in the south bay are working to put out a brush fire in gilroy. so far the fire has burned 150 acres and is now 50- percent contained. you're looking at videos and pictures sent to us from kron4 viewers. the fire was reported yesterday afternoon near the intersection of castro valley road and highway 101 near gavilan college. firefighters say they have stopped the fire from spreading no structures are being threatened and nobody was injured. ( mark ) and crews in mariposa county are making progress battling the detwiler fire. this fire is burning near yosemite national park. it is now 45 percent contained. it has burned more than 76-thousand acres. more than 60 homes have been destroyed along with nearly 70 other buildings. more than a dozen other homes have been damaged. some of the evacuation orders have been lifted but 15-hundred homes are still threatened this morning. ( mark ) at least nine people are dead and 30 others are in serious condition after they were found in the back of a big rig in texas. tiffany mcelroy is following the latest from the breaking news desk. tiffany. (tiffany) two of the victims in the hospital are said to be just 15 years old. federal investigators are calling this a human trafficking crime. the driver of that big rig is expected to be in court today. police were called to the san antonio walmart lot sunday morning where the trailer was parked and found eight bodies and 30 undocumented immigrants severely injured from overheating inside. the victims were found stuffed in the back of a truck parked in a san antonio wal-mart parking lot. the temperature rose above 100-degrees and the air conditioning in the truck wasn't working. investigators say more than 100 undocumented immigrants may have been in that truck at one point in time. a walmart employee alerted authorities to the tragedy after a man who was in the trailer asked for water. the employee brought water for the man, then called police and asked them to conduct a welfare check neurological deficits that you're never going to be able to recover from." >( tiffany ) the truck driver was identified as james bradley junior of florida. he was arrested and police say he will face state and federal charges. last year more than 15-hundred people were convicted in connection to human smuggling operations. back to you in the studio. . ( mark ) happening now... hayward police are searching for a teenager with special needs who has been missing for over a month. 15-year-old larissa oliver was last seen on june tenth. larissa's aunt says she has a mental disability that interferes with her ability to care for herself. she was last scene walking out of the hayward assessment center where she was in custody at the alameda county child protective services. family members say she is known to walk off from time to time, but has never gone missing for long periods of time. human trafficking or worse. i don't know that's really scary.">( mark ) larissa is about five foot-two inches, weighs about 105 pounds and has long extension braids. ( darya ) a body pulled from tamales bay is identified as charles friend. he is the owner of the tomales bay oyster company. friend was reported missing last tuesday. authorities conducted an intensive search before suspending it wednesday. a group of his friends continued looking and located his body saturday afternoon. investigators identified the body yesterday. he was not wearing a life vest when he fell off his boat. ( darya ) president trump's son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner says that he only had four contacts with russians during the campaign and that none of them were improper. kushner also says he never colluded with any foreign government during the presidential campaign. kushner released a statement earlier this morning ahead of his meeting with a senate committee investigating russia's meddling in the 2016 election. the meeting with the senators will be held behind closed doors. he's likely to be asked about a meeting he attended last year with donald trump junior, and former trump campaign chair paul manafort. that meeting was held on the premise that a russian attorney had information on clinton. tomorrow he'll talk privately to members of the house committee. ( darya ) a southern california man has a winning lotto ticket worth 5 million dollars but the state wont give him the money. now the man is suing. this happened in long beach. the man says he went into the gas station to claim his prize but the lotto commission is refusing to pay. they say the person who actually bought the ticket was only 16 and not legally old enough to play. the teens father is now suing the state saying that he and his son went to the gas station together. he says he sent his son to exchange winning scratch off tickets for new ones and nobody ever checked his i-d or said that he had to be 18. neither the store's owner nor the lotto commission has commented on the lawsuit. ( mark ) breaking news... a man attacks five people using a chainsaw in switzerland... the attacker is still on the loose this morning. kron four's tiffany mcelroy has been following this story. ( tiffany @flash) police say a man wielding a chainsaw attacked people in the town of shaffhausen. five people were injured...two people with serious injuries. investigators say this is not an act of terrorism. they're saying the alarm went off this morning, when the man carrying the chainsaw reportedly entered some office buildings. police confirmed they know who the attacker is and that he is still on the loose. the town has been sealed off as police continue to search for the him. we will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available. back to you in the studio ( darya ) a mother is looking for answers after her son is beaten to death near lake merritt in oakland.( mark ) the killer is still on the loose this morning. kron4's hermela aregawi has the latest. a devestating loss.linda sturdivant lost her daughter six years ago and says her son was all she had left. linda sturdivant/victim's mother: i'm not going to be moving forward for a long time. i'm broken. i'm broken. i'm shattered. i'm completely shattered. police say 45 year old anthony owens was beaten to death last sunday on the 200 block of grand avenue in oakland.they say the suspect fled after a person driving by the attack honked their horn. owens was taken to highland hospital where he died of his injuries the next morning. linda sturdivant/victim's mother:he was a peaceful maker. he was a peacemaker. he was kind. he was smart. everybody knows him from bookstores and libraries. at the time of his death, sturdivant says owens had started learning computer programming.linda sturdivant/victim's mother:we were emailing back and forth and i got to tell him that i loved him and i sent him a poem and it was about that god to watch over him and help him make the right choices and take care of him and watch over him and i told him how proud i wassturdivant says she is proud yet again.owens who was a registered donor was able to donate his liver and kidney.. and gave his lungs to researchers.(hermela aregawi) police don't have a motive for this attack.crime stoppers is offering 10-thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.if you know anything that could help police, you're asked to call them at 510-238-3821reporting in point reyes, hemela aregawi, kron 4 news. ( darya ) police in benicia arrest a man in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl. police say brandon jacobs met the victim... a 15-year-old girl...as he was serving as a youth volunteer at a local church. police located jacobs while he was trying to meet up with the girl. he was taken into custody and booked into the solano county jail. ( darya ) berkeley police have made an arrest for an attack that happened just two blocks from the cal campus. the attack happened early saturday morning. a woman was walking in the area of telegraph avenue and channing way when a man approached her. police say the man then cornered her and groped her. she notified a cal police officer . the man was located nearby. he has been turned over to the berkeley police department, ( mark ) firefighters are making progress battling the whittier fire burning near oroville. that fire is now 87% contained. it has now burned more than 18-thousand acres. more than 45 buildings have been destroyed at least 15 of those were homes. firefighters are still trying to figure out how this fire started. ( mark ) investigators in the south bay are working to figure out what cuased a plane crash at the reid-hillview airport in san jose. it happened yesterday afternoon. investigators say the plane went down on a parallel runway just after takeoff. the pilot was the only person on board. he suffered only minor injuries. ( darya ) two people are seriously hurt in a chain reaction crash on interstate 280 in san jose. 5 cars were involved in the pile-up yesterday morning. it happened just north of mclaughlin avenue. the c-h-p says one car hit a wall before being hit by another car. then there were 3 other cars that hit those cars. two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. the chp is trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the crash. ( darya ) the white house says that president trump will sign new sanctions against russia if they are passed by the house of representatives later this week. the new bill would require president trump to get permission from congress before lifting the economic penalties against moscow. the bill could be sent to president trump before congress breaks for the august recess. the legislation is aimed at punishing moscow for meddling in the presidential election and it's military aggression in ukraine and syria. the new white house communications director anthony scaramucci says that president trump still does not accept that russia attempted to influence the 2016 election. his remarks about russia come as a special counsel continues to investigate contacts between russians and the trump campaign. scaramucci says president trump will make up his own mind in time and that if the president believes russia is a threat to future elections, he will act. called me from air force one and he basically said to me - hey, this is you know - maybe they did it, maybe they didn't do it.">( mark ) scaramucci has also pledged to crack down on leaks coming from the white house and the intelligence community. ( darya ) the london hospital where baby charlie gard is being treated for a rare genetic disorder has been receiving death threats. (ááátake boxesááá) the 11-month-old has been at the center of a world-wide debate. his parents have been trying to bring him to the u-s for experimental treatment but a london court has allowed the hospital to stop charlie's life support. the hospital says it has exhausted all its resources and the experimental treatment would not help charlie. another hearing in his case will be held tomorrow. ( darya ) a 99-year-old man and his wife are held hostage in their own home. police say this man approached the couple as they were sitting on the porch of their home in florida. he asked the couple if he could borrow some salt to cook with. that is when he pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded 50-thousand dollars. the couple says they were held hostage for hours. eventually the man's wife says she was able to get out of the house and go get help. (tiffany) our top story this morning... a mother says goodbye to her son after he is beaten to death near lake merrit in oakland.( james ) the attack happened last sunday. and whoever did it is still on the loose. kron4's hermela aregawi spoke to the victim's mother who is demanding answers. a devestating loss.linda sturdivant lost her daughter six years ago and says her son was all she had left.linda sturdivant/victim's mother: i'm not going to be moving forward for a long time. i'm broken. i'm broken. i'm shattered. i'm completely shattered. police say 45 year old anthony owens was beaten to death last sunday on the 200 block of grand avenue in oakland.they say the suspect fled after a person driving by the attack honked their horn.owens was taken to highland hospital where he died of his injuries the next morning.linda sturdivant/victim's mother:he was a peaceful maker. he was a peacemaker. he was kind. he was smart. everybody knows him from bookstores and libraries. at the time of his death, sturdivant says owens had started learning computer programming.linda sturdivant/victim's mother:we were emailing back and forth and i got to tell him that i loved him and i sent him a poem and it was about that god to watch over him and help him make the right choices and take care of him and watch over him and i told him how proud i wassturdivant says she is proud yet again.owens who was a registered donor was able to donate his liver and kidney.. and gave his lungs to researchers.(hermela aregawi) police don't have a motive for this attack.crime stoppers is offering 10-thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.if you know anything that could help police, you're asked to call them at 510-238-3821reporting in point reyes, hemela aregawi, kron 4 news. ( james ) in the north bay... the marin county coroner has confirmed that a body found in tomales bay is that of charles "tod" friend, the owner of tomales bay oyster company. friend's body was brought to marconi point around 2 p.m. saturday after it was found floating in the bay. friend was found by a group of people who continued to look for him after a multi-agency search was suspended wednesday. investigators believe friend was not wearing a life vest and fell off his boat. ( james ) another big story we are following this morning... family and victim's advocates fear for a teenager with special needs. larissa oliver has been missing for more than a month now. kron 4's ella sogomonian has details on the search. 15-year-old larissa oliver is missing. the special needs student hasn't been seen in six weeks. (nats: where is larissa oliver) her east bay family has asked that two local non profits help in the search hosting rallies and posting fliers around oakland and hayward.sot: daryle allums, adamika village founder// "this is the longest she's ever been missing and we're scared for her life. we're scared she may be kidnapped or human trafficked or something like that we don't know where she is right now."larissa's aunt says the girl walked out of the hayward assessment center where she was in custody of the alameda county child protective services and hasn't been seen since either june 9th or 10th. sot: theresa russell, richmond street angels founder// "i'm really scared that she has been shipped for human trafficking or worse. i don't know that's really scary."goes by "rissa".she is 5 foot 2, around 105 pounds. in hayward ella sogomonian kron 4 news. (tiffany) in the south bay... two people were seriously hurt in a chain reaction crash on highway 280 in san jose. five cars were involved in the pile-up just after midnight last night north of mclaughlin. the chp reports it started when one car hit a wall. people who got out of their car to help also were hit with car parts. when emergency teams arrived they found people scattered across the highway. four people were hurt. two of them taken to the hospital in life threatening condition. south bay are working to put out a brush fire in gilroy. so far the fire has burned 150 acres and is now 50- percent contained. you're looking at videos and pictures sent to us from kron4 viewers. the fire was reported just after four p-m near the intersection of castro valley road and highway 101 near gavilan college. fire officials do not expect the fire to get much bigger. no structures are at risk and no one is injured. ( james ) in benicia... police arrest a 21-year-old man in connection with the rape of an underage victim. officers believe brandon jacobs met the victim a 15- year-old girl while he was serving as a youth volunteer at a local church. on friday police located jacobs while he was trying to meet up with the girl. he was taken into custody and booked into the solano county jail. ( james ) in oakland, police are investigating a rape case involving seven suspects. the attack happened around 10 friday night on 83rd avenue near the new highland academy elementary school. the victim was taken to a hospital. police are still looking for the seven suspects. ( james ) the city by the bay turned into a racing course for the 40th san francisco marathon. almost 28-thousand runners took part and race officials say that's the largest group of runners in race history. 80-thousand people also came out to watch. the largest crowd in the race's history. 39-year-old jorge maraville of mill valley won the men's marathon with a time of 2- hours, 28-minutes and 23- seconds. he is the general manager at the san francisco running company. and for the women's marathon 25-year-old devin mcmahon won with a time of 2-hours, 52- minutes, and 49-seconds. she is a ph-d student at stanford university. each winner also won a trip to paris. the marathon also raised over 300- thousand dollars for charity. (tiffany) as cory james tells us fire crews met with people from the affected areas to provide updates on the fire that has been burning for almost a week. bottled waters were passed out and fans were moving inside the warm auditorium at mariposa high school.but the lack of air did not bother these residents.they were here for a community meeting to learn more about the devastating detwiler fire that stormed through their town. natson this projector screen, cal fire had detailed maps up pinpointing areas in the clear... and areas that still need more work. suzette prue/resident:"i thought it was very informative."suzette prue lives in morman hills. she says in her lifetime, a wildfire here has never gotten this bad. suzette prue/resident:"i lived here during the telegraph fire but this is double the size of the telegraph fire, and this is huge. this is one for the record books" so far the fast moving blaze is now 40-percent contained. and it has burned more than 75-thousand acres. leaving many people like this woman...natsreturning to nothing but rubble and debris where her home once sat. the raging blaze is responsible for destroying 60 homes and 63 other structures. but nancy koerperich (koper-ich), cal fire's unit chief for mariposa says it could have been a lot worse... if it were not for the 500 thousand gallons of retardant dropped in one day and defensible space that many neighbors created. nancy koerperich/cal fire:"it was a very big help because the fire burned right up to their homes but because they had great defensible space around it, it was able to lay down so fire fighters could get in there and knock that stuff down."and terry selk is grateful for the work the more than 45-hundred fighters have been putting in. because he says it has saved not only homes... but also lives. terry selk/resident: "without them coming from all over the state putting their lives on the line, saving our towns, saving our homes. i mean, without that resource we would not be standing here." (tiffany) p-g and e crews say they've restored power to roughly nine thousand people since the fire first started. ( james ) in national news... nine bodies were found in an overheated tractor- trailer in a san antonio walmart parking lot. 17 others are in life-threatening condition. some survivors told officials they crossed the border by foot at laredo, texas. now the u-s attorney's office is holding 60-year-old james bradley junior of clearwater, florida in connection with the case. rick damigella has more on what is being called a "horrific" human trafficking crime. "we're looking at a human trafficking crime here."a horrific tragedy involving undocumented immigrants was discovered at a san antonio walmart early sunday. police say they received a call from a store employee to conduct a welfare check on a tractor- trailer parked on the premises. the employee contacted authorities after a man inside the trailer asked for water, police said.once emergency crews arrived on scene, they found several people dead inside the sweltering 18-wheeler ... and more than two dozen others in distress.some of the victims taken to area hospitals are as young as 15-years old. officials said the high temperature in san antonio was 100 degrees and the air conditioner in the trailer was not working..fire chief charles hood / san antonio fire dept.: "our paramedics and firefighters found that each one of them had heart rates over about 130 beats per minute, which, again, they were very hot to the touch. so, these people were in that trailer without any signs of any type of water. so, you're looking at a lot of heatstroke, a lot of dehydration."police are reviewing store surveillance footage .. and have also searched the area with helicopters after some people reportedly ran off in the woods or were picked up by other drivers. chief william mcmanus / san antonio police dept.: "we found that there were a number of vehicles that came in and picked up a lot of the folks that were in that trailer that survived the trip." the driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested and will be facing state and federal charges. i'm rick damigella reporting. (tiffany) police say a six-year-old boy in milwaukee wisconsin has died after he was shot. police haven't released many details yet. but say that boy was outside on the street when he was killed saturday night. some of the six-year-old's relatives are speaking out. they say they are in total disbelief with what happened. little nephew. i love him. and i just want the community to know to stop all this black on black crime.">(tiffany) an autopsy is scheduled this week. so far, police have not made any arrests. ( james ) that is irene rosen. she was sitting outside her florida home with her 99-year-old husband, louis, when they were apporached by a man saying he was staying at a home nearby and asked for salt to cook with. irene says that's when the man pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded 50- thousand dollars. police say it was this man leonard benitez who took the couple hostage. the couple didn't want to elaborate on all of what happened but say they were held hostage for hours irene-- who is much more mobile than her husband was eventually able to run out of the house to get help. "that was the only time. i was frantic. i was all the way down the block and i was worried about him."( james ) a swat team finally was able to take benitez into custody. at some point, louis was pistol-whipped in the head. the 99-year-old was left with staples in his head, but alive. (tiffany) law enforcement may soon have a new tool to use in their fight against the national opiod crisis. the state of new jersey is considering giving police and law enforcement officials access to its prescription drug monitoring database without a court order. senator robert singer introduced the legislation last week. singer says the it will help officials target physicians who are illigally prescribing drugs. the legislation faces powerfull opponents. most notably governor chris christie who site privacy concerns. states across the country are grappling with how much leeway to give officials when it comes to examining the databases. (tiffany) doctors in london are receiving death threats over their care for a dying 11-month old baby. the baby is charlie gard who has a rare genetic condition and suffers from brain damage. an e-u court has allowed the hospital to discontinue charlie's life support. but his parents want to bring him to the u-s for an experimental therapy that's never been used in cases like charlie's. a trial involving charlie's case is set to get under way on tuesday. (tiffany) happening today... president trump's son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner says that he only had four contacts with russians during the campaign and that none of them were improper. kushner also says he never colluded with any foreign government during the presidential campaign. kushner released a statement earlier this morning ahead of his meeting with a senate committee investigating russia's meddling in the 2016 election. the meeting with the senators will be held behind closed doors. he's likely to be asked about a meeting he attended last year with donald trump junior, and former trump campaign chair paul manafort. that meeting was held on the premise that a russian attorney had damaging information on hillary clinton. tomorrow he'll talk privately to members of the house intelligence committee. ( james ) the new white house communications chief anthony scaramucci has pledged to begin "an era of a new good feeling" while also cracking down on leaks. he hit the sunday morning talk show circuit to address the russian hacking scandal.(tiffany) scaramucci says that president trump still does not accept the intelligence community's conclusion that russia attempted to influence the 2016 election. the remarks come as a special counsel continues to investigate contacts between russians and the trump campaign. hey, this is you know - maybe they did it, maybe they didn't do it.">(tiffany) in the same interview scaramucci's comments regarding white house press secertary sarah huckabee sanders gained quite a bit of negative attention online after he referenced her looks. experts say gun silencers - or suppressors -- typically reduce the sound of a gunshot by about 30 decibels. but in order to get one, the government imposes a $200 dollar fee and requires a buyer to submit fingerprints and be photographed. there's also a waiting period that can last more than nine months. alabama congressman mo brooks wants to change that. rep. mo brooks, r-al:"this is a way to protect the hearing of those people who use weapons on a periodic basis."brooks is cosponsor of legislation doing away with the restrictions. its been met with fierce opposition from gun safety groups. jeffrey twigg, vt mass shooting survivor: "the first thing we heard was the gunshots." jeffery twigg is a survivor of the shooting massacre at virginia tech ten years ago. as the attacker bore down on his classroom -- twigg jumped from a second story window breaking his leg in two places. jeffrey twigg, vt mass shooting survivor "without being able to hear the incredible volume of the gunfire i probably wouldnt have jumped and i would have been killed."a committee meeting on the issue was scheduled for june 14th but it was cancelled when a gunman attacked a congressional baseball practice. drew petrimoulx, reporting:the legislation being considered by the house natural resources committee as part of broad plan to expand hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting. but so far the hearing is not rescheduled. rep. mo brooks, r-al:"there are always pros and cons it seems like to everything we do, and the key is to find a proper balance." brooks says there's no evidence that more silencers means more violence. but opponents of making them easier to get say they worry it will make mass shootings more lethal. in washington, im drew petrimoulx (tiffany) a federal judge is refusing to reinstate president trump's sanctuary cities order. the ruling came down last week. the executive order would have cut funding from cities that do not cooperate with immigration officials. the department of justice had asked the judge to reverse his previous decision blocking president trump's order. it was first blocked after lawsuits were filed by san francisco and santa clara county. attorney general jeff sessions released a memo saying the executive order only applies to a small amount of money. but the judge says sessions could reverse himself, so for now the executive order remains blocked. ( mark ) and crews in mariposa county are making progress battling the detwiler fire. this fire is burning near yosemite national park. it is now 45 percent contained. it has burned more than 76-thousand acres. more than 60 homes have been destroyed along with nearly 70 other buildings. more than a dozen other homes have been damaged. some of the evacuation orders have been lifted but 15-hundred homes are still threatened this morning. ( darya ) three people rob and try to kidnap a woman in the east bay and the attackers are still on the loose. this happened friday in east oakland but police just now releasing the details. it happened near the intersection of 62nd and harmon avenues. police say three people used a gun and a knife to threaten the woman. they stole her purse and jewelry. police have not released any descriptions of the attackers. ( darya ) police in oakland are also looking for at least 7 people involved in a rape near an elementary school. police just releasing the information about the attack. it happened friday night on 83rd avenue near the new highland academy elementary school. the victim was taken to the hospital. there is no description of the attackers this morning. ( darya ) a body pulled from tamales bay is identified as charles friend. he is the owner of the tomales bay oyster company. friend was reported missing last tuesday. authorities conducted an intensive search before suspending it wednesday. a group of his friends continued looking and located his body saturday afternoon. investigators identified the body yesterday. he was not wearing a life vest when he fell off his boat. ( mark ) at least nine people are dead and 30 others are in serious condition after they were found in the back of a big rig in texas. tiffany mcelroy is following the latest from the breaking news desk. tiffany. (tiffany) two of the victims in the hospital are said to be just 15 years old. federal investigators are calling this a human trafficking crime. the driver of that big rig is expected to be in court today. police were called to the san antonio walmart lot sunday morning where the trailer was parked found eight bodies and 30 undocumented immigrants severely injured from overheating inside. the victims were found stuffed in the back of a truck parked in a san antonio wal-mart parking lot. the temperature rose above 100-degrees and the air conditioning in the truck wasn't working. investigators say more than 100 undocumented immigrants may have been in that truck at one point in time. a walmart employee alerted authorities to the tragedy after a man who was in the trailer asked for water. the employee brought water for the man, then called police and asked them to conduct a welfare check ( tiffany ) the truck driver was identified as james bradley junior of florida. he was arrested and police say he will face state and federal charges. last year more than 15-hundred people were convicted in connection to human smuggling operations. back to you in the studio. . ( darya ) president trump's son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner says that he only had four contacts with russians during the campaign and that none of them were improper. kushner also says he never colluded with any foreign government during the presidential campaign. kushner released a statement earlier this morning ahead of his meeting with a senate committee investigating russia's meddling in the 2016 election. the meeting with the senators will be held behind closed doors. he's likely to be asked about a meeting he attended last year with donald trump junior, and former trump campaign chair paul manafort. that meeting was held on the premise that a russian attorney had damaging information on hillary clinton. tomorrow he'll talk privately to members of the house intelligence committee. ( mark ) investigators in the south bay are working to figure out what cuased a plane crash at the reid-hillview airport in san jose. it happened yesterday afternoon. investigators say the plane went down on a parallel runway just after takeoff. the pilot was the only person on board. he suffered only minor injuries. ( darya ) two people are seriously hurt in a chain reaction crash on interstate 280 in san jose. 5 cars were involved in the pile-up yesterday morning. it happened just north of mclaughlin avenue. the c-h-p says one car hit a wall before being hit by another car. then there were 3 other cars that hit those cars. two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. the chp is trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the crash. ( darya ) nearly 28- thousand runners raced in the 40th annual san francisco marathon over the weekend. it was the largest group of runners in race history. 80-thousand people also came out to watch. 39-year-old jorge maraville of mill valley won the men's marathon...with a time of 2-hours, 28-minutes and 23-seconds. and for the women's marathon 25- year-old devin mcmahon won with a time of 2-hours, 52- minutes, and 49-seconds. she is a ph-d student at stanford university. each winner also won a trip to paris. the marathon also raised over 300- thousand dollars for charity. ( mark ) police in benicia arrest a man in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl. police say brandon jacobs met the victim... a 15- year-old girl...as he was serving as a youth volunteer at a local church. police located jacobs while he was trying to meet up with the girl. he was taken into custody and booked into the solano county jail. ( mark ) berkeley police have made an arrest for an attack that happened just two blocks from the cal campus. the attack happened early saturday morning. a woman was walking in the area of telegraph avenue and channing way when a man approached her. police say the man then cornered her and groped her. she notified a cal police officer . the man was located nearby. he has been turned over to the berkeley police department, ( darya ) firefighters are making progress battling the whittier fire burning near oroville. that fire is now 87% contained. it has now burned more than 18-thousand acres. more than 45 buildings have been destroyed at least 15 of those were homes. firefighters are still trying to figure out how this fire started. ( darya ) the white house says that president trump will sign new sanctions against russia if they are passed by the house of representatives later this week. the new bill would require president trump to get permission from congress before lifting the economic penalties against moscow. the bill could be sent to president trump before congress breaks for the august recess. the legislation is aimed at punishing moscow for meddling in the presidential election and it's military aggression in ukraine and syria. ( mark ) there is a warning about a potentially rabid squirrel running rampant in a park in new york. it's happening at prospect park in brooklyn. five people were attacked and bitten by a squirrel between tuesday and thursday last week. the new york city health department is now telling anybody who may have been bitten over the past few weeks to get checked by a doctor immediately. people who visit the park say they aren't surprised a squirrel is attacking. "i think that's crazy. what do we do about it because it's a park and we can't kill all the squirrels.">( mark ) wildlife experts are searching for the squirrel, but say it's likely already dead if it's rabid. ( darya ) the london hospital where baby charlie gard is being treated for a rare genetic disorder has been receiving death threats.(ááátake boxesááá) the 11-month-old has been at the center of a world-wide debate. his parents have been trying to bring him to the u-s for experimental treatment but a london court has allowed the hospital to stop charlie's life support. the hospital says it has exhausted all its resources and the experimental treatment would not help charlie. another hearing in his case will be held tomorrow. ( mark ) a 99-year-old man and his wife are held hostage in their own home. police say this man approached the couple as they were sitting on the porch of their home in florida. he asked the couple if he could borrow some salt to cook with. that is when he pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded 50-thousand dollars. the couple says they were held hostage for hours. eventually the man's wife says she was able to get out of the house and go get help. ( mark ) the woman says that the attacker pistol whipped her husband and doctors had to put staples in his head. he is expected to be okay. a swat team was eventually able to take the attacker into custody. ( darya ) a handcuffed man escapes from a police station and jumps into the san diego bay. take a look at this... it happened yesterday. the 42-year-old man was originally arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. he made it a mile and a half from the station before jumping into the water. police later arrested the man and say he will likely face additional charges. ( mark ) the issue of gun silencers is expected to spur heated debate in washington. ( darya ) police in oakland are also looking for at least 7 people involved in a rape near an elementary school. police just releasing the information about the attack. it happened friday night on 83rd avenue near the new highland academy elementary school. the victim was taken to the hospital. there is no description of the attackers this morning. ( mark ) crews in the south bay are working to put out a brush fire in gilroy. so far the fire has burned 150 acres and is now 50- percent contained. you're looking at videos and pictures sent to us from kron4 viewers. the fire was reported yesterday afternoon near the intersection of castro valley road and highway 101 near gavilan college. firefighters say they have stopped the fire from spreading no structures are being threatened and nobody was injured. ( mark ) and crews in mariposa county are making progress battling the detwiler fire. this fire is burning near yosemite national park. it is now 45 percent contained. it has burned more than 76-thousand acres. more than 60 homes have been destroyed along with nearly 70 other buildings. more than a dozen other homes have been damaged. some of the evacuation orders have been lifted but 15-hundred homes are still threatened this morning. ( mark ) at least nine people are dead and 30 others are in serious condition after they were found in the back of a big rig in texas. tiffany mcelroy is following the latest from the breaking news desk. tiffany. (tiffany) two of the victims in the hospital are said to be just 15 years old. federal investigators are calling this a human trafficking crime. the driver of that big rig is expected to be in court today. police were called to the san antonio walmart lot sunday morning where the trailer was parked and found eight bodies and 30 undocumented immigrants severely injured from overheating inside. the victims were found stuffed in the back of a truck parked in a san antonio wal-mart parking lot. the temperature rose above 100-degrees and the air conditioning in the truck wasn't working. investigators say more than 100 undocumented immigrants may have been in that truck at one point in time. a walmart employee alerted authorities to the tragedy after a man who was in the trailer asked for water. the employee brought water for the man, then called police and asked them to conduct a welfare check neurological deficits that you're never going to be able to recover from." >( tiffany ) the truck driver was identified as james bradley junior of florida. he was arrested and police say he will face state and federal charges. last year more than 15-hundred people were convicted in connection to human smuggling operations. back to you in the studio. . ( mark ) happening now... hayward police are searching for a teenager with special needs who has been missing for over a month. 15-year-old larissa oliver was last seen on june tenth. larissa's aunt says she has a mental disability that interferes with her ability to care for herself. she was last scene walking out of the hayward assessment center where she was in custody at the alameda county child protective services. family members say she is known to walk off from time to time, but has never gone missing for long periods of time. human trafficking or worse. i don't know that's really scary.">( mark ) larissa is about five foot-two inches, weighs about 105 pounds and has long extension braids. ( darya ) a southern california man has a winning lotto ticket worth 5 million dollars but the state wont give him the money. now the man is suing. this happened in long beach. the man says he went into the gas station to claim his prize but the lotto commission is refusing to pay. they say the person who actually bought the ticket was only 16 and not legally old enough to play. the teens father is now suing the state saying that he and his son went to the gas station together. he says he sent his son to exchange winning scratch off tickets for new ones and nobody ever checked his i-d or said that he had to be 18. neither the store's owner nor the lotto commission has commented on the lawsuit. ( darya ) police in benicia arrest a man in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl. police say brandon jacobs met the victim... a 15-year-old girl...as he was serving as a youth volunteer at a local church. police located jacobs while he was trying to meet up with the girl. he was taken into custody and booked into the solano county jail. ( darya ) berkeley police have made an arrest for an attack that happened just two blocks from the cal campus. the attack happened early saturday morning. a woman was walking in the area of telegraph avenue and channing way when a man approached her. police say the man then cornered her and groped her. she notified a cal police officer . the man was located nearby. he has been turned over to the berkeley police department, ( mark ) firefighters are making progress battling the whittier fire burning near oroville. that fire is now 87% contained. it has now burned more than 18-thousand acres. more than 45 buildings have been destroyed at least 15 of those were homes. firefighters are still trying to figure out how this fire started. ( mark ) investigators in the south bay are working to figure out what cuased a plane crash at the reid-hillview airport in san jose. it happened yesterday afternoon. investigators say the plane went down on a parallel runway just after takeoff. the pilot was the only person on board. he suffered only minor injuries. ( darya ) two people are seriously hurt in a chain reaction crash on interstate 280 in san jose. 5 cars were involved in the pile-up yesterday morning. it happened just north of mclaughlin avenue. the c-h-p says one car hit a wall before being hit by another car. then there were 3 other cars that hit those cars. two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. the chp is trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the crash. ( darya ) the white house says that president trump will sign new sanctions against russia if they are passed by the house of representatives later this week. the new bill would require president trump to get permission from congress before lifting the economic penalties against moscow. the bill could be sent to president trump before congress breaks for the august recess. the legislation is aimed at punishing moscow for meddling in the presidential election and it's military aggression in ukraine and syria. the new white house communications director anthony scaramucci says that president trump still does not accept that russia attempted to influence the 2016 election. his remarks about russia come as a special counsel continues to investigate contacts between russians and the trump campaign. scaramucci says president trump will make up his own mind in time and that if the president believes russia is a threat to future elections, he will act. called me from air force one and he basically said to me - hey, this is you know - maybe they did it, maybe they didn't do it.">( mark ) scaramucci has also pledged to crack down on leaks coming from the white house and the intelligence community. ( darya ) the london hospital where baby charlie gard is being treated for a rare genetic disorder has been receiving death threats. (ááátake boxesááá) the 11-month-old has been at the center of a world-wide debate. his parents have been trying to bring him to the u-s for experimental treatment but a london court has allowed the hospital to stop charlie's life support. the hospital says it has exhausted all its resources and the experimental treatment would not help charlie. another hearing in his case will be held tomorrow. ( darya ) a 99-year-old man and his wife are held hostage in their own home. police say this man approached the couple as they were sitting on the porch of their home in florida. he asked the couple if he could borrow some salt to cook with. that is when he pulled out a gun and a knife and demanded 50-thousand dollars. the couple says they were held hostage for hours. eventually the man's wife says she was able to get out of the house and go get help. ( darya ) the woman says that the attacker pistol whipped her husband and doctors had to put staples in his head. he is expected to be okay. a swat team was eventually able to take the attacker into custody. ( mark ) some drivers in the east bay are breaking the rules by using the bike lanes as a place to park their cars.
