Monday through friday. Every day. But monday night it was also unwanted trouble for a man who got into an argument with another guy riding muni. To avoid further conflict, the first man got off and hopped on a different bus, but ten people followed, bumrushed him, stole his phone, and took off. Ive seen fights on the muni and the train, so yeah, i think you have to be cautious. But a city report on the Municipal Transportation Agency shows you might be able to relax a little bit more on muni. Theyve been keeping track of crime that happens on the buses and trainsand the trend is heading downhill on a graph anyway. Not only has munis crime rate been getting lower for four years, but its currently about five point three crimes per one hundred thousand miles of muni service well below the mtas goal of five point seven. I feel very safe. I dont have a complaint about that kind of public transportation. This graph from the city shows how those crimes break down. The green represents larceny, or theft without force. The dark red is robbery, and the light red is assault generally a small percentage of each months crimes. Hearing those numbers that i did not know i think its a bit encouraging, i would say, to hear those numbers. And i guess actually it will make me look at it a little differently, actually. Mta credits an increased Police Presence since 2013 as the main reason for the decline in crime. But even with the pleasant news, its still a good idea to have safety in mind when you plan your muni trip. Ya know this is the middle of the afternoon. It would be different if i were coming out at night. I might feel different. reporter you can find these reports and Crime Statistics about muni on the citys website.
