will start at 10:00 tonight and we are expecting 12 to 16" possible. so quite a bit of weather on your way for tuesday. outside right now, cloudy skies and 34 degrees. we have reduced air quality, a moderate air quality reading for the reno-sparks area but with the cold temperatures, we'll have more on when the snow expected to hit in the full forecast. back to you. speaking of weather and snow, mef -- nevada's first numbers are in. and the numbers are encouraging. and snowpack is vital for our supply. jamie hayden has more. >> very happy with the results in time of year. we're still a long ways from the end of winter. >> reporter: on monday morning, hydrologists measures 54" of snow depth, 15.9" of water content making the snowpack at 1 10% of normal. >> it looks like we have just from should know the >> all right. good to know. thanks, terri. an update to a story from last week. police say that a 16-year-old boy who was shot last week has died. police say that the boy died over the weekend after being transported to the hospital last tuesday following the shooting. police say that the victim whose name is not released because he's a minor, was shot by a 15-year-old after some kind of an altercation at the park. the 15-year-old has been arrested and is charged with open murder. news 4 spoke with da chris hicks about this today who said before a law went in effect in 2014, anyone under 18 would be charged with murder, but the da now can still file a motion for a certification. another layer of everyday that the state has to put on before we get to a preliminary hearing, before we can get to a trial, and it stalls the system, and that's very difficult on victims and victims' family members. >> a court hearing has not been set but the da's office has filed a motion to be heard. and over the weekend, a storey county sheriffs deputy was shot while responding to a domestic violence call. deputies were called to a red in the highlands area at 4:30 in the afternoon on saturday. according to law enforcement, 51-year-old charles stutts fired multiple shots from a rifle when the deputy arrived. stutts shot the deputy and another person on the scene. the deputy fired back causing stutts to surrender without incident. the officer and suspect and a third person were treated for non-life threatening injuries. stutts was booked on attempted murder of a police officer and his bail has not been set. the deputy is on routine administrative leave. police say that there was a shooting outside the one up bar on west commercial row at about 3:00 prif in the morning. officers found two gunshot victims when they arrived on the scene. they were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. witnesses say that the suspect and victim were arguing before the shooting. the first suspect is described as a hispanic man wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and the second, hispanic around 5'5" in a red 49ers' jersey. if you have any information, you are asked to call secret witness, 322-4900. and presidential candidate republican front runner donald trump will hold a rally at the afternoon. doors will open at 11:00 in the morning and the rest, the part you are looking at it's the eastern most section of the road from side hill drive to sun valley, that's owned and maintained by the county. but west of sidehill drive is privately owned and it's up to the homeowners to form a general improvement district to handle the maintenance and repairs or do it themselves. this is usually something disclosed. perhaps if someone is renting they may not be aware. quartz lane is one of the areas that the county privately owns. no one at the government is dropping the ball but you have the answer that the road is privately owned. heart of it are leaving to serve more time on an arson conviction. militia members from as far as arizona and colorado were called to protest the prosecution of the two ranchers, dwight and steven hammond, after intentionally setting 127 acres of blm land on fire a decade ago. the case was appealed and they were ordered to finish out a 5- year mandatory minimum sentence. on saturday, the militia took over the area saying they are release the land back to the local ranchers. >> statements are not w sgood enough. we intend ongoing to work and assisting the people in claiming their rights, using their rights as free people. >> even though the father and son reported to prison today, ammond bundy said they have no intention of becoming aggressive but if law enforcement shows up with force, they will respond by force. the militia blocked the driveway and manned a guard tower. law enforcement has converged in that area of oregon in the eastern part of the state. bundy and his flurries in western nevada and in the last hour, of rain and snow as the temperatures drop. and this storm system is making its way out east with more on the way and take a look at this winter weather advisory lasting throughout the day for the sierra and parts of far western nevada. we could see 1 to 4" possible on the valley floors and 2 to 5" above 5000 feet. here is a winter storm warning that will take effect at 10:00 tonight and remain in effect until 10:00 tomorrow night. with this one, 12 to 16" possible above 6000 feet. it's quiet especially at reno, cloudy and 34 degrees and light winds out of the south southwest at 6 miles per hour. we are usually in the mid-40s, but we're getting closer to the average compared to the extremely cold and freezing temperatures that we saw last week in the 20s and low 30s. in the mid-30s for the most part. truckee updated to 32 and carson city, the same as well, 32. and salt light and radar, we're watching the low pressure system push through northern california and southern nevada. heavy snow paul met sierra by 4:00 a.m. and scattered snow showers really lasting throughout the day on tuesday. we have a second system that makes its way in on wednesday. but, really, we're focusing on tuesday's storm, the bulk of this system. per reno and sparks, down to 30 degrees with cloudy skies and a chance of scattered showers late tonight and then tomorrow, snow showers and 1 to 4" of snow possible and since the daytime high is looks to be 40 degrees, it could be a mix of snow and rain. for eastern nevada, light snow 30s and west, slightly warmer temperatures for fallon and haw thorpe, -- hawthorne, lower 40s. for carson city, 2-4" tomorrow with a daytime high at 39 and winds out of the east at 5 to 15 miles per hour. so the winds will pick up with 80-mile per hourive ridge gusts possible. and we're looking at more snow at lake levels, 3 to 7" tomorrow and south lake tahoe at 36 degrees. overnight lows, upper 20s to lower 30s in steubenville and 2 to 4 every one of rain and snow possible with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s. here's a look at the valley floor. late tonight, we could see scattered snow showers and tomorrow, daytime highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. as we roll out the 7-day forecast, a chance of showers we'll see them linger through friday and saturday and some places seeing a break as soon as thursday. here's a look at the forecast for reno. as i mentioned, things dying down on thursday and a break on friday and another system possibly making its way in this week and definitely a low pressure system pushing through northern california and northern nevada tonight. as we put your futurecast in motion, we will see heavy rain paul in california making its way into the sierra and heavy snowfall at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow, snowfall in the sierra and throughout the day, the snow spilling over into far western nevada and expect scattered showers throughout the day tomorrow. tonight in reno and sparks, 30 degrees and cloudy skies and scattered showers late tonight with light winds that do pick up tomorrow out of the southeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour and see snow showers throughout the day. a mix of rain and snow possible with the daytime high look at 40. the eastern nevada, scattered snow showers and as we head west into fallon, 27 tonight and lower 40s for tomorrow. less than an inch of accumulation possible. but carson city, a different story with 2-4" of snow possible and winds out of the east and will pick up over the ridges tomorrow with ridge gusts at 80 miles per hour and level with daytime highs met mid-30s. we'll have a mix of rain and snow possible in the mountains, and on the valley floor, scattered showers late tonight and tomorrow morning. we'll have a 90% chance on wednesday for snow showers in south lake tahoe and lasting through saturday. reno and carson city will get a bit of a break but be ready for more snow on the valley floors. over to you whole story. >> hi. i'm the owner of of a gallery and studio, and i'm the designer and the artist behind the inaugural trophy for the arizona bowl. this piece was designed by me and created with my team here in the studios in tucson, arizona. the committee came over and they're looking at all my work and the things that i do. and someone said, can you make this into a football shape? i said you bet ya. we melt 25 pounds at a time and cook it for 8 hours at 2250 degrees fahrenheit. once the glass was cooked, we can use it. this glass was formulated to be in the trophy, there is absence of colors. it's clear but that's by design. this piece is one of three usually made to get one, and it will be monitored on a plaque, a plaque with the emblem and the name of the winner. i am very proud to be part of downtown tucson's art scene. been here for 40 years, moved here from chicago, and tucson has become a hotbed for the glass arts all over the country and the world. i'm very proud to be representing tucson because my competition in the 40 other bowls is probably waterford crystal, all the cut bowls and stuff. so this is probably the most unique trophy i have ever witnessed in all the
