It was a mistake and for that im sorry. I should have said they will continue to build their case. Indictment obviously is a very loaded word. A federal jury convicted his former aides Bridget Kelly and bill baroni of shutting down parts of a major bridge to punish a political opponent. Afterward, both sides argued again over whether christie himself should have been charged. Attorneys office should be one of the things the u. S. Attorneys office should be ashamed of is where they decided to draw the line on who to charge and who not to charge. They should have had belief in their own case to charge powerful people and they did not. The evidence we had the proved people guilty beyond reasonable doubt was sufficient to indict and convict bill baroni and Bridget Kelly, and thats the indictment we asked the grand jury to return. Woodruff in a statement, christie said again he knew nothing about the bridge closures until after the fact. And, he promised to speak out soon about what he called the lies told by the media and in the courtroom. U. S. The arrests sparked protests from istanbul to ankara, and police used pepper spray and Water Cannons on the crowds. Supporters of the kurdish lawmakers called the arrests political genocide. translated these operations are politically designed by the state. As you know, the parliament was bypassed after the coup attempt. And now, the parliaments operations have been officially stopped in illegal and anti democratic way. The government is trying to create an authoritarian turkey. Woodruff hours after the arrests, a car bomb killed nine people and wounded scores more in the city of diyarbakir in the kurdish southeast. The Iraqi Military launched a new assault into eastern mosul today, touching off some of the fiercest fighting yet. Tanks blasted Islamic State positions and special forces captured six districts. Still to come on the newshour strategists weigh in on what each Campaign Needs to do in the final push to election day, how voters in the swing state of pennsylvania view the integrity of the election, a closer look at the people with few place to turn for Health Care Coverage in this country, and much more. Woodruff with 72 hours to go, the president ial candidates are making their final pitch to voters this weekend. To size up the race im joined by two campaign veterans. Jim messina is the c. E. O. Of the messina group, he served as Campaign Manager for president bama in 2012. And matthew dowd, former chief strategist for george w. Bush in 2004, now a political analyst for abc news. And we welcome both of you to the program. So ill ask you both to put yourself in the shoes of the folks who are running the clinton and Trump Campaigns this year. Jim messina, what are you looking at right now . We have about 102 hours before the polls close, judy. So youre thinking about, first of all, getting out your vote, making sure what we call the sporadic voters absolutely vote, and thats where we spent two years building field data and resources to target these people to turn out their vote. The second equally crucial thing is were sitting here with 5 to 7 of america who is undecided. Our Research Shows clearly that those people are influenced by what their friends and family members are saying, youre targeting those voters with a variety of techniques to move your message in these last 200 hours. Woodruff matthew dowd, youre running one of these campaigns. What are you thinking . Well, i think when you look at it objectively, right now the race leans in hillarys direction. I think there are two different strategies in play. Today if the election were held, he would win the presidency. So first, she wants to do no harm, make sure no mistakes are made. I agree with jim, they want to employ and engage their strategy that will be the last 72 and 90 hours of this race and turn out the vote and if she does that, she wins the race. For donald trump, hes probably going to have to take a few chances to overcome that small amount that exists in the reese and hope something breaks so he can take advantage of it in the next 28 to 48 hours. Its a different situation tore donald trump than Hillary Clinton. Woodruff for something to break in the last weve already seen breaks over the course of the last few weeks but what would it take to change the course of the election at this point . One, as we talked earlier, turnout matters. If we have historic turnout in white precincts like mathew helped president bush do in 2004, that could change the race. People make mistakes. Things happen. World events happen. Right before the brexit vote, there was an internal terrorism incident in the u. K. That fundamentally changed the race. So youre not sure whats going to happen. Youve got to be ready for whatever is going to happen but more importantly stick to your message. Mathews right, shes got to turn her vote out and stay disciplined. I think shes running the right kind of campaign to do that. Donald trump is running a much different campaign. I dont think the word discipline has ever come to mind when you think of him. Hes at his best when he goes straight at it. I think hes going to try to cause a little stir and push hard here and you saw him yesterday go right after it. I think its going to be a wild and woolly final four days here. Woodruff matthew dowd, is that what you expect that something is going to be said by donald trump or thats going to come out of some place we dont expect that could change the trajectory at this point . Well, we definitely know donald trump will say things in this that, as jim says, are undisciplined that would normally rock any other campaign which he probably has done is hundred times in the last 200 days. I think its going to be Something Like that. Its something we have no idea about. Thats usually what happens. The comey report that happened a week or so ago that adjusted the race to Hillary Clintons disadvantage by about 2 points, so she still has a solid but small lead in this. But it will come down to employing the strategy you need. I dont think anything will fundamentally adjust this race. One of the interesting things in this, judy, is if Hillary Clinton wins this race, she will win it with the most diverse cowlings anybodys ever been elect bid in president ial history. She will have the most Diverse Coalition than anybodys ever even more diverse than barack obama in 2012 and 2008. Woodruff jim messina, you wrote a column for the New York Times yesterday where you said you really dislike National Polls and refer to something you call the golden report that you trusted when barack obama last won an election. What exactly was that . Well, judy, just to correct you, i said i hate public polls. I think theyre the worst things in the world because most of them are absolutely wrong. But in the obama 2012 campaign and to this day, we do 62,000 computer simulations of the election, simulate every possible variance, turnout numbers, economy incidents mathew was talking about, all of those things and we follow that more than public poles. I had a role in the obama campaign, if you looked at public polls i would fire you, bays it was a silly waste of time. People have to stay focused. What the golden report allows you to do is look at the voters that really matter and which states are up for grabs, because this is not a National Race now. Eight to ten states are really going to decide this election and you have 102 hours to affect the outcome. So the one thing you cant get more of is time. So each campaign has to be very structured and disciplined in what they do. Donald trump again using his nondisciplined campaign. Doesnt believe in data, hasnt done any of those things. Hes just making an argument to the country whereas you see the Clinton Campaign be very Strategic Income how theyre spending their time. Woodruff very quirkily, jim messina, does Hillary Clinton have Something Like that now . I think her casm pain manager robby mook has done a good job at building it. Woodruff does donald trump have anything close . No, the huge advantage in election day is Hillary Clinton win thing i slightly disagree with is im gnostic about public tolls polls. In 2004, george bush called me up on election morning and i said he would win by 2 to 3 points. He won by 2. 5 in the race. That was based on all the things jim said. But for viewers who dont have access to stuff we have access to, i would counsel look at a broad average of the National Polls and that tells you whats going on. The state polls are lagging indicators of where this race is. Woodruff were hearing it from both you have and well talk to you again after the election. Matthew dowd, jim messina, great to see both of you. Thanks. , judy. Woodruff meantime, allegations of widespread voter fraud are nothing new, but theyve taken on a renewed intensity in this campaign. While theres virtually no evidence for the claims, donald trump and his supporters insist the voting process is rigged. William brangham takes a look at those accusations and how theyre being heard by the accused in the battleground state of pennsylvania. Reporter this past weekend in allentown, pennsylvania, a group of Donald Trumps supporters staged a rally at a busy intersection. Were not going to take it anymore im here to support trump, and pray that hillary goes to prison for all that she has done. Reporter these voters argue trump is exactly what the country needs right now, and they think the media isnt treating him fairly, and is overlooking Hillary Clintons flaws. Many are also deeply suspicious that the election is somehow going to be stolen from them. I think the machines are rigged. I watched on youtube how they rig the machines. Theres been instances this year already of machines being rigged where you vote republican, and it turns up democrat. Were going to watch pennsylvania go down to certain areas and watch and study and make sure other people dont come in and vote five times. Reporter theres no evidence for the kind of widespread fraudulent voting that trump says is going on right now. But his supporters people like tom carroll say if you dont believe rigged voting occurs, just look at philadelphia. It is absolutely rigged. Philadelphia is a perfect example, you have wards, in 2012 that had more than 100 turnout in philadelphia, there were 17 districts where there were 100 obama votes,
