to find out, we have been granted rare access here at underwriters laboratories in you probably recognize the logo. we are inside their special battery testing lab. you have to wear safety glasses in here and you're about to see for the first time what it looks like up close when these batteries explode. first up, the crush test. what are you going to see in this test? >> probably going to see it explode because we are putting a high crush force on it and making sure it can with stand that. >> reporter: let's close the door and get this test going. let's hit it. you see the flames there. all this from a small battery. >> did you ever realize you had that much energy in your pocket? >> reporter: then comes the overcharging test. >> we are deliberately overcharging this batsry which is -- battery which is something you can do if the use the wrong charger. the battery has no internal protection. >> reporter: this is the reported cause of many samsung phone fires, within minutes you can see the heat and pressure building. our battery puffing up and then -- that's frightened me and i fireball. >> this is a very rare occurrence. we overcharged that battery on purpose. >> reporter: what should consumers do to avoid this from happening? >> follow the instructions that the manufacturer gives them, use the proper charger with that battery but also charge it in an open area where you've got ventilation because heat is generated when you're charging a battery. >> reporter: simple tips to prevent this from happening to you. jeff raulson, nbc news, chicago name i was telling you, i used one of the generic chargers they are talking about and when i went to unplug it, it zapped me and burnt like a quick fire in the socket. >> it is weird when you fly now, they tell you turn them off, now they are even banned. >> i'm like there's a guy on his phone and if we go down it's husband fault -- his fault. new hopeful information reveals deaths from breast cancer fell between 2010 and 2014. cdc reports there were racial differences. breast cancer death rates fell faster for white women than for black women. breast cancer does not discriminate. it's estimated around 2600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. >> and valley resident marshall kauffman is one of the men fighting cancer right now but team 12's joe dana brings us his message for all men. >> it was kind of devastating because it's like you just -- nothing you would ever think of that would happe cancer with men. >> reporter: marshall kauffman, a father and husband, has always lived a healthy life. in june that all changed with the pain in his head. tests would reveal he had stage 4 breast cancer. >> it's a scary thing. >> reporter: the cancer had spread to his skull and other parts of his body. the toughest part of the diagnosis, telling his daughters. >> tell them that their father is sick, you know, because you always want them to see you as the strong guy. >> reporter: marshall is his family is helping him stay positive. >> the brightness in their eyes and the love in their heart that every time they see daddy, it's daddy and, you know, how are you doing? >> reporter: less than 1% of men will get breast cancer but marshall says why take a chance. >> we do the same routine that women do. do the little rub, whatever is necessary, just do it. get it done because it's your life. >> reporter: joe dana, 12 news. >> marshall will continue the chemotherapy and hopefully scans will show the cancer has have set up a link on 12news.com if you would like to help the family out. and, of course, good luck to him and to his family. >> yes, for sure. of course the weather outside a little bit different change because it's still hot but the mornings are cooling off. >> it's nice. our lows, right?
