the warning from that state's governor. plus, why this high school athlete's performance of the national anthem is now getting a lot of attention. and then coming up on 12 news at 6:00 tanswer to today's social sound-off. which valley city make this is year's list of top places to the millions of people impacted by hurricane matthew, and that includes more than 30 volunteers from right here in arizona. and team 1 brian west. kevin:ed -- kevin:ed with one red cross -- kevin:ed with one reds cross worker. >> reporter: we met with people up in atlanta and we're traveling and then we're getting down to savannah. >> reporter: he has volunteered with the american red cross for five y corners of the united states for floods, hurricanes. and he was along the southeast coast to assist for the hurricane matthew aftermath. >> what i'm doing this time is we're actually looking after our volunteers. even though the client has gone through a very traumatic, dramatic experience, the people that are trying to help them also go through an experience. so we want to make sure that they're okay, that they are getting the rest they need, everything is good for them. >> reporter: he will be deployed for at least two weeks a cause he is passionate about. >> when you know that you're touching some of these people and you're helping them take the first steps to recovery, that is the most rewarding thing. >> reporter: in phoenix, brian west, 12 news. sits so difficult the see these images and try to imagine what it must be like endure these kinds of circumstances right now, especially when we have this live look in bang of -- in back of us. it is a grand jurious day in the -- gorgeous day in the valley. our hearts go out to everybody affected by hurricane matthew. it was a great morning. >> it was nice. even our temperatures were a little better than yesterday. i don't know if you noticed the difference, but it was actually cooler. 92. that was our high temperature yesterday at the same time, chandler right now, five degrees cooler. scottsdale, you're four degrees cooler. phoenix, three degrees cooler at this time. the same thing there for glendale. what we have now is a westerly flow. basically dry air coming into arizona giving us this really beautiful, nice, sunny weather. but the next couple of days, we're going to see a very active jet stream to the north of us a couple of systems will move into the pacific northwest. bit north of arizona. so this is what that means for our weather here. basically our temperatures whether stay about like they are today. so slightly above normal. possibly right at about normal. lit get breezy from time to time. and then we'll see some occasional clouds come through. other than that taxer is the biggest impact that we're going to see for the next several days. here is a look at what is happening right now. we do have the high clouds but other than that, it is going to be great here in the valley. 58 to 67 for your overnight temperatures. tomorrow, similar to today. the westerly winds at -- southwestly winds rather at -- southerly winds at -- southwesterly winds tomorrow. and next week we keep it sunny all the way through next wednesday. coop? [ and i enjoyed the sport. >> reporter: but she never thought she'd be bringing the two together on the court. >> it gave nee a lot of hope that i can do it. >> her coach says she can't imagine a better team player. >> i think it was really get of her that for her to go up and be able to do something like herself and her school but for her country. >> well, she is going to be able to perform one more time next week before her last home game. what a talented young lady. >> what a voice, too, right?
