better yet, how do you prove what you don't now? >> it's very exciting -- very upsetting because it's frustrating. >> reporter: a recent bill for amber >> it seems to be really random.>> reporter: they are just two of dozens of homeowners who have complained to buckeye. david is the director of water resources. >> we are confident that the meters themselves are accurate. >> reporter: so 12news had the city prove it. workers pulled 3 m from homes that saw a recent spike and all three were brought here to >> we are going to do a volume metric test. 100 gallons in the tank, hopefully 100 gallons on the meter. >> reporter: 12news cameras rolling for the entire test. water was pumped through the tank. >> it measured 97.2 out of 100 gallons. this other meter ran 98.3. >> reporter: both meters passed in the high-volume test and th next. once again, the meters got high marks. >> both tested within plus or -3%. >> reporter: the other meter passed. the confirmed what the city thought while providing little comfort for customers. >> if there is no leak inside or outside and the meter is fine, then why would i get a super high bill one month and then nothing the other months? >> maybe they were hacked. i really don't know but it doesn't seem possible that everybody is having these high spikes. >> reporter: the city admits amber's phone. >> we are hiring a metering audit company to see if there is anything we are missing. >> reporter: which begs the question, how do you know what you don't now? the city hopes to have a report from the independent agency within a couple weeks and they are still encouraging homeowners to call if they have problems. they have set up water audits to find out what is causing the if there is something going on in your neighborhood that you want us to verify, just email [email protected]. is the nurse caring for you or your loved one addicted to drugs? >> there is a shocking stat. the american nurses association says that one in 10 nurses is addicted and maybe high while treating -- may the high while treating you. a mother shares her downward spiral with team 12. story hoping to help others. do you remember the first time he reached into the cabinet? >> absolutely. >> reporter: a wife, mother of three and long time delivery nurse. >> i love taking care of patients. >> reporter: and she stole drugs from the hospital where she worked to feed her addiction. like so many addiction stories, hers starts afta that made her anxiety easier to handle. she first took advantage of a common hospital practice when a doctor can order 4 ml of a drug even though a patient only needs to. the nurse is responsible for getting rid of the leftover medication. >> but you forget and go home and empty your pockets and you still have the medication.>> reporter: she vividly remembers the first time. >> i had no idea that this was of my life. >> reporter: but soon she built up a tolerance and the waste wasn't enough. she moved to a powerful opiate, so powerful it's used when putting bones back into place.>> at this point you were just stealing drugs. >> yes. >> what were you thinking? >> hopeless. >> reporter: as a nurse, it was fairly easy to find her next six. >> the thing people don't at our fingerprint -- fingertips. >> how were you able to steal the drugs? nobody saw you? >> you have a login and your fingerprint and i would just go in and take it out under a different patient's name. >> reporter: she got away with it. were there times you worked with patience high? >> absolutely. tons of guilt and regret during that time. >> do you feel like people's lives were in danger? >> reporter: but that's not something she wants to talk about but her bosses did. >> i was escorted into a board room and confronted for taking over 100 bottles in two weeks. it was like a cry for help. >> reporter: she has been clean since 2012 and spent three years earning him -- her nursing license back. >> do you deserve to have that job back? >> no. they have never called me the captain. i have some like it and some, it's just what i do. they have their own lives. my son and my daughter are and that's big. >> reporter: are you intimidating when your daughter's date comes to pick her up? >> i may have struggled a little bit with that. but i'm getting better at it. >> reporter: like dad, relax. >> it's more like calm down, stop doing that. she would love me to be relaxed but that's probably not going to happen. >> reporter: does it argued playing? have they brought it up? >> they have. >> how do you handle it? >> i'm pretty careful about it but they are getting more comfortable about it. >> reporter: with this young team, i'm sure your role has changed throughout the year. do you enjoy teaching? >> you want to be able to tell people what will work and what will be successful. y your own. people told me things and were never listened so i hope people do but it's hard. >> how many more years can you keep this up? i can't let you go without asking. is years the right word? >> we are working on days i think right now. it's not something i wanted to end but i recognize that there is a shelf life. >> one more year?
