All of the luggage on board the boeing 737 was checked. No arrests were made. The fbi said the threat was not credible. Search teams have recovered a 13th body from that deadly avalanche on mt. Good news and bad news about diabetes in the u. S. A new federal study says heart attacks and deaths from the disease dropped by more than 60 more than between 1990 and 2010. Why are we seeing such improvement . Were Getting Better<\/a> at diagnosing. Theres improved medicine to lower blood sugar and oral medications. Theres cholesterol and Blood Pressure<\/a> medications. It helps with outcomes but it doesnt argue against the fact that we are just seeing a huge increase in the number of people who have diabetes. Also this week a new study publish in bmj said millions of americans are misdiagnosed by their doctors every year. It sounds like a big number. Yeah. Its kind of alarming numbers when you look at it. When you think about the hundreds of millions of outpatients visit that happen every year. It suggests in about 5 of the visits patients are misdiagnosed. So what that means, you know, in some fields you could say doctors are right 90 of the time. Or right 95 of the time. Thats great. But in medicine 5 of all visits can be life threatening. So half of the cases, they are life threatening or have serious complications. Why is is misdiagnose is so demon in out common . Missberptding lab result some has to do a little bit with the patient. They might give incomplete or incorrect medical history. A lot of it i think has to do with how medicine happens today. Basically visits are short. Everyone is crunched for time, you know, in all aspects. And i think that is when mistakes happen. Is there a way, john it sounds like the answer no here. How do you protect yourself as a patient . I think patients have to be aggressive with their doctors and make sure they get the information they need. They have to do their own home work. Patients have possibility. Beforehand find out your Family History<\/a> find out the medicines youre on. Dont say the pink pill. Doctors want to know chronologicallykronchronically when its going on. You have a belly ache when did it start . What makes it worse. Its like a Sherlock Holmes<\/a> thing. If you tell it the right way the doctor might be able to interpret it better. You need to be aggressive in term of the interaction with the doctor and the communication. If you dont hear a result of a test. Go out and find it. Make sure you call the office. Canadian researchers said teens who suffer concussions have high attempt at suicide attempts. How are the teams different in the professional . Like junior seau and dave who are nfl players who committed suicide. And the fear with kids in adolescence, the brain is still developing developing. This is a period that is particularly sensitive to trauma. They looked at kids seventh to twelveth graders it was in ontario, canada they had a higher chance of having behavioral issues and emotional issues. It included not only increased risk of suicide, but damage or steal property more likely to sell marijuana, carry a weapon with oar get in a fight. Its an area started to be seriously studied. I think well hear more. Theres another study that said many teams dont get enough down team in the off season. It comes down the body has an incredible way to heal itself if you let it. They looked at football players. Many had sign of traumatic brain injury after taking so many hits to the head. Then they looked at them again six months later with the theoretic off season. Many hasnt healed. The injuries were still there. Which makes it more likely that once they get into the playing season theyll suffer even more serious injuries. So age i think a lot comes down especially flit team the off season needs to be a true off season. Youre not playing. Youre not practices and letting your body heal itself. So people who kind of think more broadly about the world and how to solve the problems of the world rather than just how can we write new computer code. I thought rapid e evaluation was fascinating. You would think that they call it rapid eval. You would think that the idea would be lets come up with good idea and try to make them work. Actually its the opposite. They come up with good ideas and try to make them fail. Only then can we see what is really good and worth putting money into. What can become a business. The philosophy is interesting in the way they approach them. They look back from the future, right . Sometimes they do. Again, my anticipation was that i would go there and they would say here is what we think. We think theres a problem. What technology can we create to solve the problem . Sometimes they think, lets imagine we live in the future and the problem has already been solved. How did it get solved . Then they think backwards. I started following pizza box boxes for like 2 an hour. Now its come full circle. We opened up a pizza ree ya last year. Did you have the food bug already . I just wanted money. I was 13 years old. I wanted some money, and i just started working there. Slowly started, you know, i got work in the kitchen. I got make pizza and sandwiches. And i got into cooking. I worked in a hotel. My high school had a program and i went to school. I want to ask you about italy. Few chef get to take a full years. You devoted each chapter to a different town. It change midlife. My life. I wanted to learn about the cultural. I didnt speak the language at the time. After eight months i learned how to pick up things how to say fork and knife. I met my wife after eight months. Its not just the cookbook. Its a memoir of the whole experience. Yeah. I couldnt have written the book without meeting her and the family. Theres a whole chapter in there about her mom and her grandmother and food that and recipes i learned from them we have on the menu today. What influenced the move to philly . I met my partner, mark in 1997 in aspen, colorado. I was working in aspen. He just was getting ready to open up a restaurant. We became good friends. Three years later he was looking if for a chef. I was looking to move out of aspen. Came to philly. I liked what he was doing. It was totally different than what i was doing. With no concern about starting in a new town . No. I moved away when i was about 17 or 18. I moved to new york and did my internship for school in colorado and moved back to colorado. I kind of like the traveling. We get the sense youre a fearless guy and reading you liked mixed marshall eded eded martial arts. I started getting in competitions. I train at the gym and a good friend of ours heads the gym. I train about four days a week out there. Youre strict about your diet . I tend to eat what i want. It kind of helps me not get overweight. Im amazed with the chefs we have on the show who end up running multiple restaurants. How do you keep everything under control . You start because you love cooking and you end up getting into restaurants. You have a lot of employees and a lot of stuff. How do you that . We have great staff that works for us. We have a lot of energetic young chefs, and waiters and waitresses that love being a part of our family. I mean, its called the veteran family. We treat it as one big family. We treat everybody in there as theyre, you know, coming into our house. Its a great philosophy. As we hand you the dish to get your signature.
