Sharyn alfonsi is with us. A potential breakthrough in the hunt for two escaped killers who escaped from a prison in new york. They found new clues, including footprints in dannemora. Right now police are following what appears to be their trail. Anna werner is just down the road from the gas station tracking this manhunt. Good morning. Reporter good morning. District attorney andrew wiley from Clinton County has confirmed they found two sets of footprints at a gas station in dannemora. Theyre reviewing several days worth of Surveillance Video to see if they can see those inmeritin inmates at that gas station. It would prove helpful to know when they were there, if they were there. Meanwhile, the search continues. Police were out in force throughout the night as the search for david sweat and richard matt nears one week. Were looking underneath every rock behind every tree and inside every structure. Reporter officers are focusing on an area about three miles east of the correctional facility where they escaped. Law enforcement officials told cbs news thats where dogs picked up the fugitives scent. They found food wrappers bedding which appears to be from one of the men. What is the toughest part about being in there and trying to find these guys . They are battling the terrain at this point. They are still finding difficulty. Theres trees, theres rocks. Reporter on thursday, u. S. Customs and Border Protection stationed in michigan dispatched a uh60 blackhawk helicopter to search from the air. Officials have now received more than 600 tips ranging from rumored sightings in philadelphia to information the prisoners maybe headed to vermont. This morning a virginia honor student faces lengthy prison time for assisting isis. 17yearold ali amin is one of the youngest americans to face terrorist charges. He admits running a proisis twitter account. He was arrested in woodbridge virginia. He withdrew from high school this year and now faces 15 years in federal prison. This morning there are fears a massive data breach at the federal government could be much worse than first thought. Cbs news learned millions more at risk of having their personal information compromised. Federal workers were the apparent targets. Jeff good morning to you. Reporter the number is staggering. Investigators now suggest hackers may have compromised the personal data of up to 14 Million People more than three times what they originally thought. The data includes information about current and former government employees, including Social Security numbers. Weve also learned even Law Enforcement and intelligence agencies like the fbi, and cia, had data compromised. There is an ongoing assessment of how much was exposed and whether the cyberattack has ended. In a statement the office of Personnel Management says opm and the Incident Response team have no indication of malicious activity or an adversarial presence. They are still sweeping for signs of an intrusion but acknowledge it will take a long time to make a full and accurate assessment. Gayle . Jeff, some of the victims of this cyberattack havent even been notified yet, true . Thats right. Thats the other problem. Reporter his arrest provoked three days of demonstrations by students of every color, mostly because of who Martese Johnson is. Hes the wellliked vice chairman of the uva honor committee. Also a Scholarship Committee who grew up on the toughest edge of south side chicago. He thought the days of being seen only as black were over. I thought now im at the university of virginia im safe. I dont have to worry about violence or being exploited. The moment my head hit the ground is when my realization came back. Thats when i sort of understood that no matter where i go in my life, im still a black man and to a large majority of the population, im still seen as a threat.
