>> charlie, thank you. much of the west can expect another dry day, but two new winter storms threat. more trouble for snow-covered new england pap view from nasa shows tuesday's blizzard pulling away after dropping up to three feet of snow. it could snow again tomorrow and also over the weekend. schooled closed again in much of massachusetts. boston still trying to clear 26 inches of snow. other areas along the coast are covered in sheets of ice. coastal flooding causes damage that could take years to repair. in hard-hit marshfield massachusetts, our reporter. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. well the town of marshfield is in recovery this morning from the hit it took from that major storm. destroying homes liked one behind me, now this is a community in need of some help. the combination of high winds, heavy snow and blowing seawater left some towns along the massachusetts coast a frozen icy mess with downed power lines, collapsed roofs and blown-out windows. >> probably tens of millions of dollars worth of damage here. >> reporter: this is marshfield's police chief. >> an awful lot that goes into this and i imagine it will take a couple of years to completely rebuild things. >> reporter: on wednesday, crews worked in temperatures reaching just 26 degrees. to restore power to more than 6,000 people. >> these are people's homes. this isn't a season's population here. homes that were occupied. >> the crazy, the way the force of the ocean. you know? you can't fight back water. >> reporter: 60 mile-per-hour winds destroyed parts of sea walls in marshfield and scituate. at least a dozen homes were severely damaged. >> ba-boom. fast as lightning. wham! >> reporter: this lobsterman tim man headaches half a dozen broken bones in this face after the storm came barreling through the sliding doors of his seaside house in the middle of the night. >> i never saw it until i was on the floor. bleeding. and i said, oh boy. if i got knocked out i would have been in big trouble, because it was 4:00 in the morning. nobody around. >> reporter: he was able to get out of the house and to the end of his driveway, where he calmed police. >> i know i'm lucky. yeah. oh, yeah. i know it. >> reporter: now he's just doing his best to deal with both the physical and emotional damage left behind. >> trying to be bright about it. >> reporter: trying to tough it out. >> well, yeah. >> what am i going to do? start crying and -- you know. i'm not the only person that got wrecked. >> reporter: well this is mannix' home here behind me. you can see, you can actually see through this house now. he's not sure what he's going to do. whether he'll be able to rebuild. he's lived here all his life and would definitely like to rebuild, if he could. meanwhile, residents cleaning up will deal with a little bit more snow tomorrow. the forecasts are for somewhere around an ith of snow, and that's not really something they want to see right now. >> thank you, anna. >> a good attitude too. >> really good attitude. really great. eastern long island is also watching the next storm. more than two feet of snow fell out there. bulldozers and dump trucks are used to clear parking lots and the streets. meteorologist matt brickman of our station, wcco is tracking the system in the midwest. matt, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, all viewers on west coast, we start out northeast once again, because believe it or not, there is even more snow headed that way. two storms combining power to move together along the atlantic coast. this is going to be much lighter than we saw earlier in the week but another round of rain and snow bringing one to three inches out towards boston if you're heading that way, that snow will still be around in the weekend. staying on the west coast, justin happy you're not involved in any of this. looking out towards the west we are keeping an eye on moisture moving in late tonight into early tomorrow morning. should be rain for most and parts of arizona and new mexico into utah and colorado but certainly we'll see some snow up into the mountains as well. norah? >> matt, thank you. we're following an unfolding situation, a massive explosion in mexico city. take a look at these pictures. rescuers are trying to reach victims inside a maternity and children's hospital. officials say a gas tanker truck blew up outside just a short time ago. a large section of the hospital collapsed. one person is reported dead and at least 54 injured. 22 of them are children. investigators have a clearer picture about what happened in the final moments of airasia flight 8501. flight recorders recovered from the wreckage reveal the copilot was flying the plane just before the crash. the more experienced captain took over the controls after the trouble began. the plane was cruising at 32,000 feet when it wobbled and veered left in a matter of seconds climbed to more than 237,000 feet. that quick change in elevation caused the plane to stall and dive towards the java sea. all 162 people onboard died. malaysia's government officially declared this morning that malaysia airlines flight 370 went down by accident. the plane disappeared last month with 239 people onboard. malaysia's chief of civil aviation says all the passengers are now assumed to be dead. he says the search for the plane is still a priority. the declaration clears the way for victim's family to get compensation. health officials in arizona are tracking more than 1,000 people this morning who may have been exposed to the measles. and that includes nearly 200 children. arizona is ordering anyone exposed to the virus without the flu vaccine dosage to be quarantined for three weeks. there are at least 95 cases of the measles in ten states. most of them are in california and can be traced back to the disneyland resort. in our next half hour, ben tracely introduce us to parents who want their child's school to ban kids without a measles vaccination saying their child's life may depend on it. that story, straight ahead. and this morning, the homeland security secretary says there specific credible threats against super bowl xlix but law enforcement is not taking any chances. more than 100,000 people headed to arizona for the big game. at the university of phoenix stadium in glendale site of sunday's super bowl. lucky you, and good morning. >> reporter: i feel very lucky and good morning to viewers on the west coast. homeland chairman jeh johnson was here yesterday took a tour of the stadium, talked about security, his presence came from washington, shows the super bowl is not just a game. federal agents showed us what fans can expect from game day. from the air helicopters like this black hawk enforcing a no-fly zone and monitor what's happening on the ground. cameras will send realtime video to command centers, where officers like phoenix police sergeant anthony jones are monitoring activity. >> the more we see the better off we can be pro active looking for things happening. >> reporter: what they don't want to see. fans taking in backpacks or purses or flying drones which the faa reminded everyone are banned around the stadium. >> leave your drone at home. >> reporter: it's all part of a detailed security plan to protect tens of thousands of fans who will attend the nation's biggest sporting event. >> i'm confident that we will have a safe and secure and successful event. on sunday. >> reporter: homeland security second jeh johnson reinforced that message wednesday appearing with a wide range of law enforcement agencies. the local police in the phoenix area patrolling the ground to u.s. customs and border protection which loaned its black hawks. border protection also moved in this huge x-ray machine to screen every delivery truck entering the stadium. they're looking for explosives and other dangerous materials. the machine usually stationed at the arizona/mexico border. border protection commissioner -- >> we want to make sure the public know what's kind of work has gone into make sure that this event is safe. the eyes of the country and frankly the eyes of the world are on the super bowl. >> reporter: so what else is, would go in their favor? it's going to be warm here in phoenix. so unlike last year in new york people won't be having to wear those warm puffy coats, where you might just be able to hide something. >> jiang, thanks. jan, thanks. and a meeting cut short by shouting and shoving. residents and police gathered last night to discuss the possible creation of a police oversight board made up of civilians. the proposal stems from the shooting of black teenager michael brown by a white officer in nearby ferguson last summer. a plan to ensure the safety of women at university of virginia is stirring a backlash on campus this morning. the members of 16 sororities told to stay away from big fraternity patterns this week. greek life is reeling after a rolling stone article about an alleged gaining rape. in washington good morning. >> reporter: good morning. earlier this month uva lifted a suspension on all greek activities following that rolling stone article. even with new rules imposed in the wake of that story, a national organization representing those 16 sororities say memberless have to avoid this weekend a campus tradition. as many of uva students prepare for one of the biggest party weekends of the year 2,000 sorority sisters are told to find something else to do. >> initially, i was very upset. >> reporter: elly is a sophomore at uva. her sorority she asked us not to identify is one of the 16 told to stay away from the fraternity houses hosting the parties. >> it became obvious to me that while it was well-intentioned it was having the wrong effect on the culture here at uva. >> reporter: fra tirnlts and sororities agreed to new rules in the wake of that explosive rolling stone piece last november. some of the aless s article later discredited but they're concerned for member safety's in a statement the national group representing the 16 sororityies said they a support the safety of their women and encourage sorority women to plan sisterhood events and other safer options, but students say their decision vilifies uva's entire greek system. >> making way, the ability for girls in sororities to make their own choice. >> i think the manner in how it's approached the entire culture is the issue this this. >> reporter: this week an order to revoke tis saying it is gender discrimination and promotes that women are inferior sexual objects. >> you have to take the responsibility off of the women. you can't put rules on them and not punish the fraternities like they don't have any punishments right now yet we have to stay indoors. >> reporter: that change.org petition has gotten over 2,100 signatures. they're planning esflents their sorority houses because they're concerned about losing their charters. >> we'll follow that story. new evidence about a link between common household chemicals found cosmetics and plastics and the early onset of menopause. research finds the effect on women's hormones could accelerate by upper to nearly four years putting women at risk for a range of health problems. our doctor is in los angeles with the latest. david, good morning to you. listen no woman i know wants early menopause. what kind of chemicals are you talking about and what are the dangers they cause? >> normally biology dictates when menopause happen. the study looked at over 100 chemicals, they found 15 when higher menopause happens earlier. year by year a sixfold higher chance of being in menopause if you find levels of these in the blood. important to note this study is association, not causality. it's important to realize this finding is could change our lives. >> david, many of these chemicals have been banned in the united states for a long time because of their toxicity. and dangers to our health. so why are these still prevalent? >> interesting. most have been banned in the '70s, yet they're still there. they last for many, many years in the environment and over a decade in our blood. some of them including a class called phthalates are still used to soften plastic. that's why the recommendations are watch when you mike wave in plastic and avoid chewing on plastic if you're a young child, et cetera. that's where it comes from. >> is early menopause significantly bad for a woman's health? >> yeah. there are diseases osteoporosis, dramatic increase when you go through menopause. heart decrease going through menopause. biology says when it should happen and there's a role noor. early menopause can accelerate some diseases. we need to be aware of this. i hate doing stories where you can't wrap it up and tell people what to do. al real message, be aware. transparency in labeling and we as a society have to find a way to start to identify these compounds in nature because we're affected. >> the screen just said personal care items and cosmetics. i really don't know what does that mean exactly? that's what some officers are saying about waze that puts police on a collision course. >> i like that app a lot. plus parents who want a school to require kids to guessheir own child. why they say their child is at greater risk. you'll want to hear that story. it's straight ahead. the "chicago tribune" said mcdonald's nuñá a new ceo. dave thompson will step down and be replaced by easter brooke. their stock jumped. it rose nearly $3 in after-hours trade. the wall street jury room says amazon is starting a company. it's called work mail. currently microsoft and google control most of the corporate e-mail market. one expert estimates amazon can make a billion dollar a year with its e-mail service. the "washington post" says a faulty electrical outlet sparked an electrical fire that killed six. a tall dry 15-foot tree started on fire. the tall ceilings boosted the fire. it killed a couple and four young grandchildren. and britain's "guardian" wrote about peanut allergies. they gradually increase the amounts over 18 months and at the end of the month, 80% of the children could eat peanuts without a reaction. a fumgive treasure hunter is due this morning in federalñ court. tommy thompson found a shipwreck. it contain as what's believed to be the largest amount of gold in american history. he was arrested tuesday at a florida hotel. erin moriarty tells why he was on the run for years. >> this is such a good story. he's said to be a brilliant engineer but he's been the subject of an international man hunt ever since he vanished in 2012. he's in a legal bitter dispute with investors who say they haven't received a single cent from his very>2jsç lucrative discovery. u.s. marshals found tommy thompson and his girlfriend hiding out in this suite in west boca raton. they did not resist arrest. >> i had heard they had been staying at the hotel for two years. they had been paying cash forv all their stay. >> reporter: thompson is wanting in ohio for skipping out on a hearing for a lawsuit brought by his investors. thompson raised nearly $13 million from people. he found the ship of gold. it sank off the coast of south carolina in 1857 during a hurricane. it's believed the ship was carrying as much as 21 tons of gold at the time. for treasure hunters, it is a coveted prize. thompson, a pioneer of deep sea exploration techniques discovered the wreck in 1988 about a mile and a half below the service. attorney rick roebl once represented his company. >> those that knew him personally knew that he lived like a paper and sacrificed himself and was the first explorer to achieve a working presence in the deep ocean. >> reporter: thompson recovered about 3 tons of gold from the bottom of the atlantic. he sold it in 2000 for about $50 million, and thompson's investors which included the columbus dispatch nothing. he said they were used for the expense of expeditions and lawsuits. >> over $43 million in debt to one company, $45 million in debt to another company. >> reporter: the only charges facing thompson and ann are for failing to show up in court. they do not face any criminal charges stemming from the company's finances. >> i have no idea what happened to the gold. i'm sure a lot of people want to know that. >> investors may still get a return. there may be as much as 18 tons of gold in the wreckage. thompson's company is in receivership and there are still plans to go for the gold. >> what's to prevent someone putting on a wet suit and go a half mile down in the water? >> one of his gums is that these investors had given away information. that's one reason why he said he hadn't paid them and anybody could go down and get it. but, in fact it is a mile and a half. he is considered to be very brilliant but quirky. he's the one who created this amazing remote control vehicle to get the gold but he's quirky. >> you can say that. >> that's one word to thank you, erin. this morning some law enforcement officers want to put the brakes on one of the features of a popular smartphone app. waze is an application app that a lot of drivers use. it shows short cuts and accidents and even the location of the police. but carter evans shows us why it puts officers' lives at risk. >> reporter: nearly 50 million drivers across the u.s. now use waze to avoid traffic and find the road less travelled. adam uses it to shortena( commute but it can help him avoid speeding tickets. he posted his video online to teach other drivers how to find speed traps. >> bingo.v÷ bingo. i guess that's proof positive it works. >> the waze app is full of icons. these heads with blue hats is the location where a police officer has been spotted. if you click on it you can find where and when they're located. >> you have to constantly weigh what is the value of information you're putting out c versus the risk that it creates. >> reporter: los angeles police chief charlie beck cently wrote a letter to google which owns waze claiming the app poses a danger to the lives of the police officers in the united states. he asked the company to disable the police alert function after reports surfaced that brinsley used the waze app to kill two new york city officers last month even though investigators don't believe the app was directly linked to the crime, some are concerned it can help criminals. >> it become as tool for people who break the law. >> reporter: this week the sheriff's association asked to meet with google. >> everything that we can do to slow them down and stop them is in >> reporter: google hasn't announced plans to make any changes to waze. in a statement the company said many of its police partners support the app because most users tend to drive more carefully when they believe law enforcement is nearby. >> does it change your driving pattern? >> traveling was a big plus. >> she was willing to pay for the meal around $550 per person but wanted the date to play for his flight and the separate room. she met the final four forq coffee but one stood out. >> we got pretty deep in conversation and it wasn't superficial and it was -- it was just really nice. >> reporter: stephanie shared his picture with me, but this bachelor prefers his privacy, so no cameras on the date. she did reveal she sent him a surprised package before flying off to the far east. a friend secretly left it on his doorstep. >> do you call them daily flirtations? sfloo you can call them daily flirtations. >> reporter: on the ground in tokyo the mystery man left a surprise for her and then they were off to a big meal. >> it was unbelievable. it was not the taste of the food. it was like the experience of the food and looking at it and smelling it. >> reporter: the chef is famous for serving up exotic plates. >> the one thing that i got a kick out of is when they brought the duck out and they served it and it was a full duck with its head and thesz instructions were that it's really good to pick it up and suck the z%xbrains. it was good. >> reporter: and the atmosphere romantic. >> i felt like i was going to the prom. i actually was joking with the date that i should go get him a boutonniere. at times i thought my come pap onwas outdazzling the food. >> stephanie found a man. now she's planning to introduce the bachelors who didn't suit her taste to all of her friends. >> all of my single girlfriends are hitting me up what are you doing with this list? this is a gold mine. so a friend of mine and i are actually going to go through the list and e-mail some of the guys some single ladies that are of a like mind to a dinner party and then just see what happens. >> so dinner with the leftovers. >> dinner with the leftovers. >> as for that meal in tokyo, it was a photo finish. with the chef, his staff, and the mystery man who we hear wants another date with her. >> i think there's going to be a second date, maybe a third date. maybe more than that. >> stephanie says this was the best date of her life. so much so they were supposed to be flying home separately but this mystery man paid for her to change her flight so the two of them could fly home together. >> fair to say it was all she wanted it to be. >> why does he want it to be a mystery? >> narcissism is a big one. if you're low on agreeableness low on conscientiousness, that's one. people who are commitmentphobes and and if you're a risk seeker. what's the gender gap? >> the idea that men cheat more is true. it goes up. worldwide sort of report when they report that they cheat, but women are growing because women are more in the work force over the last few decades, and the internet level is a playing field because you have more opportunities to meet people. >> do most affairs startéu in the workplace? >> i don't know. but somebody you work closely with, travel with. >> opportunities. >> i like the saying once a cheater, always a cheater. my mother used to always say a tiger doesn't change his stripe, leopards ss doesn't change his spots. >> it goes back to personality as to why you cheated. if you cheated for some reason about yourself personality trait, narcissist, avoidance personality, yes. but if you&pg cheated because there's something wrong in your relationship, then it might not be. >> do you believe that if you cheat at love you'll cheat at anything? >> i didn't look at that research butbr that's a good question. >> are you asking me? >> you found that men and women cheat for different reasons. >> yeah. this is interesting. so men will cheat for sexual reasons. so theye> it goes back to risk taking thrill seeker narcissist or personality trait where you're driven. >> you say a promotion leads to cheating. >> affairs cost mary you have more money, more power. >> men are more easily simple to say it's pleasure andhz sex and not emotional. >> i don't know if they're lying themselves. they can tell themselves that. that's what's driving them really, the research has found. that they're looking for something sexually usually. >> is it ever really just sex?
