We start with breaking news and another tragedy in orlando, this one at Walt Disney World. There 50 Law Enforcement personnel and two marine units are searching for a little boy dragged into the water by an alligator. It was movie night at disneys flagship resort, the grand floridian. A family of four, a father, mother, and two children from nebraska enjoying the evening on the shore of the seven seas lagoon. Theres a sandy beach area, and the family was out simply relaxing. They had a mother, child, and a baby playpen. Reporter the father and 2yearold son were wading in the lake when the alligator struck. The father was nearby, and the child was playing in the water a foot or so into the water. The alligator came up and attacked. He saw this happen . Yes. And the father at some point struggled to try to get his son. Reporter Police Believe the mother also tried to save her son. The father was slightly injured. The grand floridian is one of the disney resorts adjacent to the seven seas lagoon. The lagoon connects to bay lake, a natural lake forming the waterways around the magic kingdom. Officials say there have been no other recent reports of similar alligator attacks at the lake. A disney spokesperson had a brief statement. Everyone here at the Walt Disney World resort is devastated by this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family. Officials say there were no other people in the water at the time. And there are signs that say no swimming. As the search was underway, the nightly fireworks display lit up the sky over the magic kingdom. Now to the orlando nightclub massacre. This morning, the focus of the investigation has turned to the wife of the gunman, omar mateen. The fbi is trying to determine if she had advanced knowledge of the attack. The agency is also trying to determine if the teen led a determine if mateen led a secret life as a gay man as it looks for possible motives. As more and more details start to emerge about all of this, the picture is getting more and more blurry as investigators look into whether the attacker was living a secret life as a gay man and what his wife knew. Did you know your husband was going do this . Reporter investigators are turning their attention to this woman, noor zahi salman. She was married to omar mateen, the gunman who went on a shooting rampage inside the pulse nightclub in orlando. Oh, my god people are getting shot Reporter Police say she and mateen had gone to the gay nightclub before. She also said she tried to convince him not to go through with the attack. I didnt see. Didnt notice anything. She is very good girl. Honest, sincere person. Reporter as investigators dig into mateens past, patrons also say theyve seen him at pulse before. He used to come in the bar about on the weekends sometimes. Reporter not only did mateen call 911, but sources tell cbs news he also made a Facebook Post pledging his allegiance to isis while randomly shooting into the crowd. He looked at me and said, take care of me. Please dont leave me. He knew i was going to take care of him. He knew if someone said something bad about him, i was going to take up for him because he was more than just a friend. He was like a brother. Reporter demetrius survived, but his friend eddie justice, a tax accountant, was one of the 49 who didnt make it out alive. We confirmed that the shooter actually went to work as a Security Guard the day of the attack. Kenneth craig in orlando. Thank you very much. Omar mateens father told our David Begnaud that he doesnt believe his son was gay. Reporter are you surprised by the claims by some gay men that your son was homosexual . Listen, i dont know if he was. If that was his way of life, what can you do . He wanted to be, but i dont believe so. Reporter did you ever suspect something. No, no. Asked about report that his son celebrated the 9 11 attacks, mateens father said there may have been an incident at school, but he did not want to discuss it. Dozens of survivors of the orlando shooting remain hospitalized, but some of the wounded are talking about their ordeal including patience carter. She went with two friends. Carter and murray fled when the shooting started, but they went back when they realized parker was missing. All three huddled in a bathroom, and murray was killed. The gunman entered the bathroom and was shooting his machine gun. So were scrambling in the bathroom screaming at the top of our lungs. You know, people are getting hit by bullets. Blood is everywhere. There was a moment where he stopped. And thats when i first realized that my leg was shot. There were several other people shot and bleeding in the bathroom. Thats when akyra, who didnt make it, realized she was shot in her arm. Im not sure if that was when tiara got shot in her side, but we were pretty bad. Throughout that period of hours, the gunman was in there with us. And he actually made a call to 911 from there saying that the reason why hes doing this is because he wants america to stop bombing his country. And from that conversation, he pledged allegiance to isis. They bust down the wall, they engaged in gunfire, shot him dead. I saw akyras phone right before i got out the wall, and i picked it up because i truly believe that after i was told she was breathing that her pulse was still going that i would be able to give that phone back to her once we got back once we got back into the hospital. Donald trump is responding to scathing criticism by his latest antimuslim rhetoric from president obama. The president blasted trumps renewed calls for a ban on muslim immigration calling trump a dangerous threat to the nations safety. Trump said mr. Obama appeared angrier at him than he was at the orlando gunman. Margaret brennan reports. It wont make us more safe. It will make us less safe. Fueling isils notion that the west hates muslims. Reporter a passionate president obama ripped into donald trump, warning that his rhetoric feeds hate. We hear language that singles out immigrants and suggests entire religious communities are complicit in violence. Where does this stop . The orlando killer, one of the San Bernardino killers, the ft. Hood killer, they were all u. S. Citizens. Are we going to start treating all Muslim Americans differently . Because thats not the america we want. [ gunfire ] reporter that divisiveness hurts the u. S. War against terrorists, he argued, and betrays american values. If we ever abandon those values, we would not only make it a lot easier to radicalize people here and around the world, but we would have betrayed the very things we are trying to protect. The very things that make this country great. The very things that make us exceptional. And then the terrorists would have won. We cannot let that happen. I will not let that happen. Reporter the president also slammed critics who demand he use the term radical islam when referring to terrorists. Its a political talking point. Its not a strategy. Groups like isil and al qaeda want to make this war a war between islam and america. Thats how they recruit. If we fall into the trap of painting all muslims with a broad brush and imply that we are at war with an entire religion, then we are doing the terrorists work for them. Scott, if i cut you, youll bleed red. If i died in that club tonight, in my obituary it wouldnt say Demetrius Naulings, my gay son, it would say Demetrius Naulings, my son. This is a hate crime on people, not just gay people. We were never a disease or abomination. We are human. We wanted to be accepted. We were in our safe comfort zone. This was somewhere we could be us. Theres no judgment when you enter in somewhere youre safe in, like your home. How you go home at night and i dont know if you have kids or not, but when you go home, you make sure you tell them that you love them. Scott, i wouldnt hope that never happens to you that you have to get that phone call from their friend to tell you that they dont know where your son is. Im just there laying down. Im thinking, im next, im dead. So i dont know how by the glory of god he shoots toward my head, but it hit my hand. He shoots again, and it hits the side of my hip. I had no reaction. I was just prepared to just stay there laying down so he wont know that im alive. By this time, he goes up to the front, and i think that when hes battling against the cops. I just hear shotguns going all over the place. Im looking up, and some cops which i wish i can remember his face or his name because im to this day, im grateful for him. So he starts to drag me out across the street to the wendys. And he just drops me off across the street. I look over, and theres just bodies everywhere. Many survivors of the nightclub shooting are finding comfort during these dark days in an unlikely place. A dozen golden retrievers are visiting hospitals and counseling centers. They are from the comfort dog centers from the Comfort Dog Ministry of chicago. A woman who lost two friends in the attack was overwhelmed. Were getting love from everywhere.
